Classic FM (UK) has 2hrs of game music ( 5PM-7PM BST 20/09)

Thanks to Raxious providing a heads up in an older thread.I figured a new thread would suffice for visibility (ironically had the bump of Raxious been a new thread it may have been less visible to me because of how fast this place is)...

The week (20th Sept 2014) the Saturday Night at the movies show (5PM-7PM BST) is another games special.
2 hours? more like 1.X after you take away ad breaks
Countdown:

(remember, BST is GMT+1, hence 4PN GMT is correct).

Non-UK? I don't know if you can listen live but apparently the listen again feature only requires a UK postcode. I'm sure there is easy enough to find...

Back in May, award-winning composer and broadcaster Howard Goodall turned the spotlight on video game music as listeners and game music composers requested their favourite scores.

Tonight, Howard returns to the genre to look ahead to the 2014 Game Music Connect conference >

Now in its second year, Game Music Connect is an event created by composers James Hannigan and John Broomhall to celebrate and explore the music of video games and the extraordinary talent behind it. Held at London's Southbank Centre, the one-day event offers an unparalleled opportunity for composers and soundtrack fans to learn from some of the industry’s leading composers and music directors about the ins-and-outs of creating and placing music in games.

Tonight, Howard has music by the composers appearing at the conference as well as the scores that have influenced them in their careers. The show climaxes with brand new video game music, including an exclusive world premiere of the theme from Disney's Fantasia: Music Evolved.
I'd take from that it won't all be gaming but it should be interesting to listen to anyway.

Here is the game music connect website (if you want more info on it):

Here is an interview done last year about it (and also about game composing in general and how it is completely different to film...irregardless of how it is constantly compared):

Googled and no new threads made in the last week. Decompose if old.

Edit: Here is what was played (http://www.classicfm.com/radio/playlist/ has more info like conductors, orchestra and label)

Ooh that's cool, hopefully I'll be able to find a steam that works overseas.

For those of you who live in Australia, Sundays at 3:30pm AEST there's a Screen Sounds program on ABC Classic FM which does both film and game soundtracks. http://www.abc.net.au/classic/program/screensounds/

Edit: Actually I think ABC radio stations let overseas people listen online? At least Triple J does so I'm assuming the other ones do too...

Thanks for the mention ;) I didn't felt that making a topic at that time would have been a smart idea.
Anyway, it'll be all video game music, that disney fantasia is an upcoming rhythm game for Xbox, and the fact that it's been promoted like this for the entire week ;)

10 minutes to go.

Awesome, I requested some Xenoblade during the aftermath of the last one, fingers crossed
Classical music these days refers to the instruments used (in other classic orchestra). Unless there is an orchestra performance out there I put doubts in Xenoblade ever appearing.

That reminds me I totally forgot to request Ace Attorney Orchestral albums. Of course it all depends on being able to get rights (at least those two actually exist in album form*; there was a Zelda concert a few months back that has no CD release because Nintendo said no**).

* http://vgmdb.net/album/8309 http://vgmdb.net/album/3602 , also the Gadot Theme track was on the Nintendo Channel back in the day (yeah, remember that..thing)
**-Also any (bad) recordings audience members made had to removed from youtube.

Good point, just had a look at the composers, not too much i'm aware of, but apparently they're playing some of the composers favourites too.

Caught the C&C song as I was driving home. Didn't hear much of the programme due to having two tired and grouchy kids in the back of the car, but always glad to see these shows pop up.

Will keep a running list of the games in their line up..

Part One

  • Command & Conquer 4
  • Runescape 3
  • Super Mario Bros
  • Headhunter
  • 007: Bloods Stone
  • Dear Esther

Part Two

  • Everybody's Gone To The Rapture
  • Remember Me

Hmm, wasn't really impressed with that 'Dear Esther' track but still enjoyed the music in that game. Looking forward to EGTTR.

Damn, I was disappointed by Skyrim's eventual shallowness (console) but every time that music is soooo good. Such great stuff.

Got this on in the background while I browse the interwebz. Love these specials they've done in the past year.

And yessss, LA Noire had a really good soundtrack.

It's a good thing I love the Halo OSTs, because this broadcast has been chock-full of music from them.

Really? I don't know why it felt like so much more than that. Maybe it's been leaving the biggest impression on me or something. Sorry about that. :(

Pleased to hear they played some music from Assassin's Creed II

Jesper Kyd's soundtrack to that game is a big reason why it's my favourite in the franchise

I swear they need a channel that just does this all day. You learn a bunch about the music and instruments and history. Feel like it is an under-served market.
