"Classics HD", new brand for PS3 games?

I would rather sony get to work on PS2 emulation rather than cashing in by making us rebuy games we already own.

Seeing as emulation makes them no money and doing these rereleases will, I don't see why they would bother with emulation.

Sony should put them on PSN. Games on Demand on Live is cool so it doesn't hurt to have a similar service on PSN too.

Seems like Sony is restarting to put their PS3 BD on PSN with inFamous and LBP coming to PSN soon.

would these be able to gameshared?
maybe that's why?

Sony controls how and which games are gamesharable. For example Warhawk and GT5P were not sharable when they first launched and you could only have one active license at a time. Since then they changed the DRM on those games to 5 active license with the 24 hour active thing. I expect that PS3 games and possibly PS2 games will follow that DRM model.

If I had to choose PSN version(IF this was the case...) which would be the original game or the retail version in HD+trophies and what not...I'd pay for the HD disk version. But i think they should later on sell the HD versions on PSN anyhow. PS2 games were mostly 4GB or less and wouldnt be that bad to DL.

It sounds great and all but Sony first party games bore me to tears. Unless something comes around where third parties would be willing to jump in on this there's nothing there for me.
Fuck it just give PS2 BC back. I'll learn to live without trophies and whatever whatever.

If money is that much of an issue just make me buy some disc to load into the PS3 before I can start playing PS2 games.

My 60GB just died (2 days ago), this news/rumor/whatever is a ray of light in these dark days.

Please Sony/3rd parties, make the pain go away with: ICO collection, ZOE Collection, MGS collection, Xenosaga Collection (1, 3 and 2's FMV), Persona Collection, Dark Cloud Collection, Silent Hill Collection and Final Fantasy Collection.

If you gonna go through that much trouble why wouldn't you just get a Ps2?

You cant compare this to emulation. Those 'remastered' games are much better.

And let's be honest, one of the main problems with video games is that, after the initial 3-6 months producers can't get a single $ anymore because the last shippiment wont sell out anymore and because of the flooding of used games on the market.

Thats for current gen games... old gen games isnt even worth to reprint, so whats the point of put an effort in emulation (a half baked solution compared to remastered games) while it will bennefit only the used games industry?

Have we actually seen any HD remake collections that aren't first-party published? I can't see any third-party shelling out the money for doing these that aren't bare-bones efforts.

If something like the Sly collection, that probably ~10 people worldwide wanted or asked for, can happen, I see no reason why they couldn't make a Team Ico collection happen. Not that I personally care anyway, I don't care about Team Ico's games, but it would be nice for the fans.

The difficulty to recode for PS3 Hardware is the main reason why I don't see this happening. I personally believe because of the way Sly and GOW were designed originally made the transition onto PS3 much easier. I personally don't see it being so easy for Jak/Ratchet/Team ICO.

But what do I know, just presuming.

I wonder if all of the classics will be in 3D, there should be enough performance?

native 720p@60fps standard (+1080p@60fps upscaled) and native 720p@30fps in 3D.
Slap some MLAA and DD5.1 on, too.

Aren't EA including remastered medal of honor game for the new medal of honor limited edition?

I want a clean ico box! god who the hell pick box art? and how can they keep puting bull shit on and not good box art

I'd love someone to do HD remixes of the Timesplitters games, there is nothing like it this gen providing great 4 player split-screen fun. I've no idea if this would be possible with the Dev closing down however....

I don't give a fuck if they call it shit in a box edition, just give me SotC in HD! :p

Also, having Playstation 4 times on the top right next to each other really is a bit much. :lol

I sure hope so. There's so many last-gen games that need an HD remake...(*cough*and trophy support */cough*).

Devil May Cry series
Freedom Fighters
Harvest Moon: Another Wonderful Life
TimeSplitters series

Just to name a few..

GoW Collection was born out of a special edition questionnaire, it was intended primarily for fans of the series, not for people who never played it.

It might be a nice by-product of removing BC, but these HD Collections are not to rape the user base. I have a BC unit, have played both the GoW games and got the Collection, I have played both Ueda games, and will buy the Collection.

I'm not saying Sony are pure and honest, I'm sure they're as sick and twisted as any company that size, however, I do believe this one thing, HD Collections and the removal of BC is not directly connected and was not that premeditated and cynical.

I remember getting that and posting it here. I loved the idea and would certainly buy more as long as they stay:
1) more than 1 game
2) budget prices

So don't buy it when they bring out the Team Ueda collection next year?

That's the plan. Though the only redeeming factor for these are the lack of BC on most PS3 machines. Fucking Fuck.

How is the cropping going to be on these games when they port them to widescreen? I dislike the idea of cutting off parts of a game. I've been wary on buying the GoW collection because of that reason. The backgrounds and set pieces in those games are awesome and have a lot of character.

Anyone with GoW collection care to chime in?

those games had widescreen options in them from the start. There's no cropping involved whatsoever.

Wasn't the GoW widescreen originally a pan and crop though? I can't confirm this as I don't have my discs at the moment.

I would love to see a SOCOM collection with the online fully working with better cheat detection thanks to the PS3.

If they re-released SOCOM 1/2, I think I would be in heaven.

A socom 1&2 hd game would interest me way more than socom 4 does. Wouldn't even have to bother with single player either.

PS4 with full PS2 BC will be out long before third parties ever get on board with this.
Third parties have already expressed strong interest (there was a Kotaku article about this) but Sony hasn't licensed the tech to them quite yet. Third parties want to get on board badly because it's like free money.

Man, I can't wait until the 3rd parties get this tech. I'll probably end up buying everything they make :lol

Wow that makes it seem like it is quite easy to do for any game, I guess. Excite inded

Someone's avatar must be hosted on a malicious site, I've been getting the same message intermittently.

Alright. You just sit there and watch us play the godly series in 1080p, 2xAA and 60fps.

1080p... they must do some nice filter/special FX becuase the game was basically designed with interlaced CRT TV's in mind ;).

Seriously, try to play the original ICO on the PS3 using a >32'' TV... :(...

The only problem I have is that it only seems to be first party properties only being used. Only so much that can be used and I really don't want to play the old Jaks and Ratchets again for example (well, I'd replay the lush platformer Jak 1, to hell with the "mature" later titles). That rules out stuff like the much-petitioned Team ICO Collection.

There's a lot of detail that you miss out on with the original though. Some of the videos and screens posted by Digital Foundry were gorgeous looking.

Team Ico is first party... and Sony's already making it.

edit: esc, that video makes it look like both the original and the classics version of the game run like shit :lol

I think SOTC+Ico is a given, it's already been listed on retailer sites.
I would actually buy this. Being able to see what I'm doing would be a huge plus for those games. Also I don't actually own either of those games (played them through rentals).

Just got myself an old Euro 60GB PS3 that plays some PS2 games.

But I'd still like to see third parties getting on board with this collections strategy. Especially for those PS2 games that didn't support 60hz in their PAL release. A 60hz, upscaled 60fps Metal Gear Solid collection would certainly be a dream come true for me.
