When you go back to Ozzy's place after recruiting Magus, he tries to have Magus killed. Not to mention that Ozzy was the leader of the Mystics at the time Kid Magus was thrown forward into that era, and would have been killed by Ozzy himself if he didn't use magic in defense.

Ozzy was always the one who wanted to go to war. Magus was just the all-star general. But Magus never cared about the war, only Lavos and his sister.

smash has always used the pokemon anime as an influence more than the pokemon games, I feel like

all the voice actors for each pokemon are from the anime and jigglypuff was originally included in smash 64 because of her role in the anime

In Smash (at least Melee), Mewtwo was portrayed as a villain. It's as close to a villain Pokemon as you'd get in Smash.
