ITT: People quickly assume XBONE is the definite version and PS4 has no dedicated servers.
I am certainly surprised by it as well. They must be building out their infrastructure to handle this stuff. BO2 consistently has 350,000 people playing at the same time on the 360, the amount of server resources needed to handle 30,000 simultaneous games is not trivial and not cheap.
So COD: Ghost on Xbox One will have dedicated servers and early DLC access, Definitve console version confirmed! Seriously, lagless online multiplayer on a Console COD game is fuckin awesome!
Agreed. I'll be surprised if Activision doesn't ensure dedicated servers on PS4 also. It's tough to split your user base THAT much to the point where one version performs significantly poorer than another version.
There have also been rumors that Sony is looking for a server-hosting partner to help third-parties have dedicated servers IIRC, so that could play a hand as well...

Activision could still provide dedicated servers for current gen versions....if they felt like it. But seeing as each cod game performs better than the last sales wise why would they? Consumers have spoken with their wallets and they are fine with p2pBut what about the 360/ps3 versions? They don't cloud

Didn't MS spend literally billions to improve Azure infrastructure earlier this year? Some of that is obviously being set aside for Xbox.
Yea, now that I think about it, it's entirely possible that Microsoft paid Activision to not talk about dedicated servers on PS4 (or any other consoles) until after the game launches.
Sony never even hinted at having dedicated servers for all games, yet you think all of sudden it will happen lol.
lol that is a waste of money. The idea of that is idiotic. They don't have to say exclusive because only the xbox one is using the cloud for dedicated servers. Sony never announced being able to do such a thing, and right now is far behind MS in terms of infrastructure.
What? Nope. Blops2 on pc has dedicated servers but the netcode is so fucking bad (lag comp) it barely makes a difference. MW2 was the PC version that was p2p.
We will see at Today's Sony Gamescon conference if they will also announce dedicated servers for their COD version, but highly doubt it.
Dedicated server future on a console is a dream come true for gamers, COD: Ghost on the Xbox one leading the way!
Great news! Now I'm really tempted to pick up COD as well. Haven't played it in years.
PS4 needs to match or this is an actual game-changer for many.
I would expect it to, since giving one version of the game completely different netcode than the others would mean more work on the part of the developers.
Also, I really doubt that access to dedicated servers is so difficult on PC and PS4 that they'd be forced to go P2P.
So here's my prediction: activision won't rent enough server space to keep up with demand, players will be allowed to connect to games nowhere near their region and the matches will be filled with lag. There will be zero preventivite measures so as long as people can connect and the game 'looks' ok nobody will complain
That's the beauty of Azure it automatically scales up and demand due to demand, devs only get charged for what they use and for XB1 games they get it at a discount as well.
so what's the difference between cloud servers and the regular servers we've been using for decades?
No one ever said PS4 would have dedicated servers for all games. It's just possible, even likely, that Call of Duty will have dedicated servers on PS4.
Xbox One won't have dedicated servers for all games either, believe it or not.
You don't need a massive cloud infrastructure to run dedicated servers for a game. Sony has been running dedicated servers for many of their 1st-party PS3 games since 2006. Dedicated servers aren't some new, magical thing that only Microsoft can do.

is it a leap to assume all MP titles will use dedi's on xbox one? BF4?
Megaton for FPS players, seriously

Activision's too cheap to not set a hard upper limit on how much bandwidth they use (i.e., putting a cap on how much money will come out of their pocket).
Dedicated servers isn't a negative in and of itself. The negative is if (and it's a big if) for whatever reason the PC and/or PS4 versions don't get the same treatment, and a huge chunk of the fanbase gets the shaft. It is, millions of COD fans will rejoice at this news and will flock to the Xbox one version because of it. No host migrations or lag for a console COD game is just great news, lol at people to spin it in a negative way.

Which platform(s) get dedis?

Important things about MS Azure "Cloud":
- It was not made just for XB1, it's been around for a while and was made to compete with Google and Amazon's cloud solutions.
- It was not made just for gaming, many forture 500 businesses use it.
- It is usable by anyone who pays for it (PS4/PC/iOS/etc.. devs included)
[*]It is not free for XB1 games, but XB1 devs get discount.- XB1 games are not required/guaranteed to use it.

Can't we just be happy about dedicated servers or does this have to be a fanboy war?Important things about MS Azure "Cloud":

It's already the definite version for competitive players and casual players. Call of Duty championships (1 million$$$ in prizes) is sponsored by Xbox. Xbox gets DLC early. Xbox has dedicated servers.
It's looking like PS4 just has CoD :l

Pretty much, MS spent the money and had the forsight for Azure/cloud and will reap the benefits, don't see how it's a negative. It's business. But it's hardly activision's fault if Sony dont offer the same service and support as MS do.
