Colin Trevorrow Exits Episode 9

I wouldn't put much into any Patty Jenkins rumors. Isn't Wonder Woman II scheduled to come out in Dec. 2019? If Episode 9 slips back to December since that seems to be Disney's sweet spot that would put the 2 movies pretty much head-to-head.

Tremendous news. Tremendous thread!

I viewed CT as a fairly benign factor. Figured LFL would add enough structure to the process that by 9 there'd be little risk.

I wonder what happened?my Was it mutual and amicable separation?

TFA already had way too many unresolved plot points for a first movie in a trilogy. Watch VI or Matrix 1, or even the first LotR, none of them end with a bunch of unresolved plot points, even if in all three cases we know things aren't over. TFA didn't do that, it was like a whole TV show season rewritten to fit into a single movie.

Now they are going into VIII with all that; Kylo, Snoke, Luke, Rey, Leia, the Rebels, the First Order, Flynn. The chances that it's going to be a mess are pretty high.

I think a lot of that has to do with how Hollywood has abandoned any pretense that these are standalone movies. They know the sequel is coming so they feel free to add hooks and dangling plot elements that they can figure out later.

I think it's a mistake, personally. I like when at least try to work like standalone films that just happen to connect. But I feel like they do this all over the place in today's industry... MCU, DCEU, etc. Makes it feel like TV.

And while Carrie Fisher's death undoubtedly threw a wrench into the plans for IX, by all accounts Ford's injury was actually helpful in providing JJ more time to polish the VII script!

They didn't give JJ anymore time to polish the script. The date the movie came out at, was the date it was set for before the injury. JJ asked for more time and for it to be delayed, Bob Iger said no.

As good as WW is, I don't think they are even looking at Patty Jenkins.

You make it sound like TFA was some kind of extensive philosophical exercise.

The point is by the end of VII the movie is already dealing with three separate stories at least; Kylo/Snoke, Luke/Rey, Finn/Rebels/Leia. It's never been a good thing in SW when you have a parallel plots. It's a risky factor for the next movies.

As far as I'm concerned, it's a good thing. It tells me that KK and company want to make sure these movies are good.

It's funny seeing some people act like KK is some sort of problem where directors can't work with her. I'm choosing to believe KK simply knows what she is doing and making smart decisions.

They're two for two so far under KK and Disney. For me to not trust her decisions, I will need a reason to doubt.

perhaps but if she was so smart why did she make so many bad hiring decisions?

Uh, what? It had a single story while also leaving plot lines for the sequels. That's the entire point.

Except that's factually incorrect, as we did not know "things aren't over."

Sequels to A New Hope and The Matrix were not guaranteed. And The Matrix CLEARLY was not planned to be a trilogy for the beginning. Your complaint is silly and your examples are poor.

Now they are going into VIII with all that; Kylo, Snoke, Luke, Rey, Leia, the Rebels, the First Order, Flynn.

Yes, you're listing the names of characters in the movie.

Characters existing are not "unresolved plot points."

The chances that it's going to be a mess are pretty high.

No, they're not.

Of course we knew; the empire wasn't defeated, Vader wasn't dead, The Matrix was still active, the hobbits had to destroy the ring. Yet the movies end without a scattershot of diverging plots.

Bobby Robberts Vs Wet Bloodfart to be next big PPV fight.
This is just the pre show conference tour.

Alfonso Cuaron would also be a great choice.

Holy shit, imagine what Guillermo Del Toro could do with Star Wars!

Del Toro would be dope on a Star Wars project but considering his track record for getting projects made, I don't know how realistic it is for the current Lucasfilm.

Christ dude you are so fucking tiring. Do you ever get sick of smelling your own farts

Not the wet & bloody ones

Those have flavor.

Lord & Miller are being mentioned to possibly return to direct the DC pic The Flash (though Robert Zemeckis has also been mentioned for that film); maybe Trevorrow will step back in and direct the Jurassic World sequel? The Star Wars director fallout is creating a lot of intrigue around town.

Lord & Miller go back to The Flash
Robert Zemeckis goes to Episode 9
Trevorrow gets tossed something by his pal Spielberg. Maybe Gremlins 3.

Oh I know this name has been thrown out here in this thread.

But I love the idea of Ava DuVernay directing it.

Not impossible.

But, maybe too soon? A Wrinkly in Time hasn't come out yet, so I don't know if Kennedy will be able to take a peek at it through the great Disney machine and help her to make a decision and hand her the reins of the final film in the Star Wars trilogy.

And, Ava isn't a pushover either. Remember she was considered for Black Panther and bowed out because of creative differences with Feige.

lucasfilms needs a Feige

Again, read my post. It's Kennedy.

And Star Wars isn't the MCU either. Although we live in a time of more SW films than ever before in a single period, there are fewer SW movies than MCU ones, therefore, the risk to screw the franchise with a single movie is greater.

Thank god. He's an awful director. Now they can get someone good.

Denis Villeneuve would be a great choice.

Or if they get Rian again that would be great too.

My expectations for episode IX just went way up based on this news though.
