Can I straighten this out for good, because this pisses me off. People thank God when they win NOT because they think God somehow preordained them to get a victory; instead, they're basically thanking God for giving them the talents/tools which they used to win.
good to know genetics and practice have nothing to do with it, for a moment there I thought my offspring might suck at sports as bad as I did

But God has nothing to do with football and shouldn't be thrown around to shame another team. Apparently, it has nothing to do with a player's actual skill because it's all down to religion for giving them a win.

First of all no one's saying that- what people mean is that God gives them the physical gifts/talents (religious people believe that God created them, fyi) and then THEY have to go out and nurture them and put forth effort.

Except, when it is said in the nature that Fairley put it, it claims that God did not create Oregon's team nor was he siding with them whatsoever. It's incredibly political and childish.

way to totally ignore what I just wrote. In Christianity, it is taught that people will be held accountable for how well they used their talents/how well they nurtured and developed them. No one is saying THANK YOU GOD FOR MAKING US WIN, they're saying, "Thanks God for giving me these talents/physical gifts which I then developed/nurtured and thus was able to succeed"

Well, if you want to come down to it, the point is that God is involved in every aspect of life. It's not that he changes the answer on Question 18 on your exam from A to B, or that he lines it up so the receiver uses the official as a pick on a play. It's that he is a part of everything.

It's not like he sits up there and goes, "Guys, I'm sitting out this one. Really need to focus on this surgery going over here."

Regardless, I have seen no other team claim God helped them in their win this season... because people know better. God has no place in college football. I would have said the same had Oregon won and LaMichael said that.

*shrug* Religion is an important part of many peoples' lives.

Can you guys maybe take it to one of the 500 threads about religion?

Such a bad postseason. Letting Newton and those Ohio State guys play was shameful even for the NCAA

Cam Newton said he was a tool of God and that God giving his dad $180k, letting him buy a stolen laptop and get kicked out of college and playing football at a really high level was allowing him to spread the mother fucking Gospel.

Do you see how that could be just a little patronizing? Here's a scandal riddled dude who is telling us that God is blessing him more than the rest of us despite him doing shit that's not really in keeping with the word of the lord.

Was it me or did Chip fuck up the playclock management at the end there? I couldn't tell cause both sides were playing like such shit. Worst MNC I've seen in a while.

Also, if they don't take this away from Cam later (lets wait 3 years) it'll be a joke. How could you do that to Reggie not this schmuck.

It will be a shame when Auburn has to give back all those Tostitos.

At that exact moment, I've finally come to realise that college football is truly a sham, ruining the end of a game for a corporate sponsor. I'm determined not to care anymore until there is a playoff.

I will fail.

I'm pretty sure it was a joke lol I doubt Tostitos planned that!
Reading the meltdowns was a reason I wanted Auburn to win and you haven't disappointed me

He didn't fuck it up as much as he did last year in the Rose Bowl, at least.

This is a guy who has called time of possession the most overrated stat in football.

I really don't see any of the SEC teams being national title contenders next year.

Then again, I thought Bama would just roll (no pun intended) through their schedule and win the national title. And nobody said Auburn coming.

Possible that Bama could be if their QB is as good as some would have to believe, LSU if Miles stays (while I know this sounds wrong I just have a sinking suspicion that after Miles leaves it is going to take a dip there and LSU fans will be wishing for him back). Of course there is always the possibility for Auburn to go out an pay some players and make an average team a title contender again they will need more than 180K and multiple players but I am sure they can do it.

I'm sure it's already been said, but Oregon lost the game in the trenches. Both teams had talent, but Auburn had the clear size advantage.

Good game though. And dammit, another year of SEC SEC SEC :(

I've said the SEC is down this year despite the West's dominance because I feel that Auburn is the worst SEC champion of the past 5 years (yes, even that LSU team). This has to be the worst year for the conference on the defensive side of the ball in years. But next year looks worse from where I'm standing right now. Jordan Jefferson is going to be the most veteran QB in the west, and Stephen Garcia will be the same in the east. That's like 90s level QB play. :lol

That said, isn't Bama's QB some stud they redshirted this year? Also, I'll admit I'm assuming that Saban has recruited a beastly crew in the trenches the last two years because that's just what he does.

Maybe Florida magically pulls it together with Brantley a la Borges/Campbell back in the day. They clearly have players.

Maybe so but they held a team that boasted the 6th best rushing attack and 8th highest scoring offense to 79 rushing yards and 19 points. Maybe they aren't good compared with the past (I'm not sure how you'd even begin to qualify that) but they were good enough for everybody this year.

Football Field sucked. Made the Track Team ineffective.

Simple: talent on the field.

Both Floridas, LSU, and Alabama were all loaded with NFL talent on both sides of the ball. Harvin, Harvey, Spikes, Pouncey, Wright, Tebow, Murphy, Hernandez, Tyson Jackson, Chevis Jackson, Doucet, Dorsey, Hester, Hightower, Cody, Deaderick, Arenas, Ingram, Jones, Upshaw, Dareus.

Sure, Cam Newton himself may be the most dominant player of these 5 SEC championship teams, but the roster doesn't measure up across the board.

I hope they shut out the title game from the Fiesta Bowl for the next 10 years. That was worse than a middle school field. When Atlanta played Tampa back in December, the field was bad but they had just played a college game on it. And it wasn't as bad as the field last night.
You would think they would have tested it with some guys running around in cleats to see if it was slippery. They had two weeks, right?

I'll miss his press conference jargon. I won't miss that he BS's his way through games...and it works the majority of the time.

Hope LSU hires Mike Shula.

Thought i twas an amazing game last night that went back in forth with big plays and good defense. I just wonder how different the game would have been if the field wasn't such shit.

Grew up in Eugene, 4 blocks from campus across the street from Dean Wurmer's house. I am an alum and this is heartbreak.

I don't think the better team won. 3 calls changed the game. Fuck.

Please illuminate me. Maybe the interception that was ruled out of bounds, but past that you've got nothing.

Leave him be.

You'd be grieving the same way if the results had been flipped.

Was a little confused on the Wrist no call, but I guess there's some sort of difference if it's the hand with the ball or not (stupid rule).

Auburn had a few more Hold's that weren't called, and Eric Smith should have been ejected.

Beyond that, was upset that Oregon didn't go out of their way to Chop Block Fairley. Take the 15 yards, you dolts, you might have ended up winning the game with him on the sideline :lol

Just feel that the Football field took away the gimmicky stuff from both teams, the east-west run-then-cut type stuff. It became a passing game and north-south running game. Which tilted heavily in AU's favor, just based on the Trenches (and AU's superiority there)

came in to say this.

I expect experienced grounds crews to have evaluated and made a determination about what needs to be done with a field at least a month before the big game. you can't bring in a new fucking field any later than that and expect the grass to take hold. it was embarrassing watching so many players slipping. it looked like they were on ice skates every time they cut.

Also, I got sick and fucking tired of Saban and Meier acting like Oregon got "manhandled". I wanted to fucking punch babies. They lost by 3 points and left at least 10 points on the fucking field. C'mon, SEC coaches. The Ducks played Auburn better than your teams did. Auburn's defense was excellent, but the field did Oregon no favors. Chip's cute offense came back to bite them, making things look hesitant... especially on the goal line.

Overall, I'm disappointed. I was pulling for Oregon because they have so much flavor to them. At the end of the day, you can't leave 10 points (or more) on the field and expect to win very often.

grieving, yes. but whining, no.

The game was well officiated. It was just unfortunate that they didn't get that RB on the ground on that last drive. I would have liked Oregon's chances in OT.

I think you're conflating what they said with what you think they said.

They were both saying Oregon got manhandled at the point of attack, which is true.

Honestly, I don't think the field made a difference. Both teams use a lot of plays in space. If there was a disadvantage, it hurt skill position players on both sides.

Not really. Florida didn't play Auburn, and Alabama left way more than 10 points off the board. Call me when you have a fumble skirt the sideline for 30 yards without going out of bounds.

Yes. It was all relative. After all, Oregon was putting up a bazillion points a game before this. Oregon was outplayed at the line of scrimmage, but Chip Kelly made some great adjustments to fix that. It just wasn't enough.

And that field did suck, but both teams were negatively affected by it.

I figure both teams changed to different molded cleats or something in the second half because I didn't notice as many silly plays like McCalebb fall straight on his ass trying to cutback or Cliff Harris going horizontal on a return.

I'm probably late with this but I laughed at TCU getting a first place vote in the coaches poll. Isn't that against the rules?
