They could still get in, but they would have to have at least 2 quality OOC wins + a conference sweep. Just how non-AQ's get into BCS bowls.
There are way too many ifs that have to happen though. It's borderline impossible, especially when voters can pretty much change whatever they want. Boise St had to go on an incredible run just to be talked about. I would be in favor of either a 16 team playoff, all conference champions get in or just moving the 55 teams that can't compete for a championship down to FCS or let them create their own football subdivision. The way it is now makes no sense at all.

You mean how ratings dropped this year?

Nah, because out team appears four times in that list. Non-BCS bowls are all about the money, and don't give a flip about the matchups or being fair.

I'd go with 8 teams. 6 AQ conference winners and the next 2 highest ranked teams. All the big conferences get in and your ooc games still matter to get the next 2 slots. Seed them 1-8, first round is at home. It's not that complicated. This way, the big conferences still get the greatest share of the money, if not all of it. The only real issue with it, imo, is what do the BCS bowls that don't get the semi or championship games do?

2010 playoffs:

8 UConn @ 1 Auburn
5 Wisconsin @ 4 Stanford

6 Oklahoma @ 3 TCU
7 VT @ 2 Oregon

Other than that first game, those matchups are great.

The real point is that the BCS and the AQ conferences do not want to share the pie. I understand their position; they baked the pie. But they need to realize that there's a movement afoot and whether it's Mark Cuban or Hank Steinbrenner or congress or whoever, someone is going to bake a bigger pie and stomp on the BCS pie.

Well shit, now I want some pie.

Anybody want to add me on XBL so I'm not the only one on my leaderboard for this ESPN3 bowl thing?

I too think 16 isn't the answer. Rather 12 is better in two divisions. The top 10 conference champs in the BCS top 25 get an AQ bid then the other two are at-large according to BCS rankings. If conference champs don't fulfill the obligation (UCONN/Sun Belt/MAC/CUSA most seasons) then at large teams are added to get to 12.

From there, follow the NFL model basically. BCS top 4 get a bye aka top two in each division. Rounds are done at home up until the division championship. Sponsors can be added as necessary for each game or round and the non-BCS bowls can be kept in tact as necessary.

Surely they mean SCAR right?

Seriously. I mean, Notre Dame was a huge disappointment, but going into the season we knew it was going to be bad. Knowing that, it wasn't a disappointment. And we still came in 3rd in the conference.

Tennessee? Really? Where have these people been the past few years? When was the last time we were even in the top 25?

I think we finished in the top 10 back in 2007. But yeah this year wasn't really a disappointment.

This is true. UT's season certainly was a disappointment to me. Making it to a bowl game? Unacceptable!

I usually don't post about recruiting stuff, but Aaron Douglas was about the last person I expected to sign with Bama.

I vaguely remember him, and from what the interwebs are saying, it's a questionable move. So, I assume it really is true?

I'll just assume that the Aaron Douglas we picked up is this one:

It makes me think we're going to whiff on Cyrus Kouandijo, which really, really sucks.

So tonight watching the NFL I learned that Phillip Rivers has a brother and he will be going to LSU.

Rivers doesn't seem like a Les Miles type of QB so I'm really surprised that they got his brother. Unless his brother is really dumb or his brother for another mother. Then it makes sense.

Going to add you.

Add me GAF: KlavierTekky. Write a short message as well saying you got it from GAF or college bowl game or something.

No one on my friend's list is doing the ESPN thing as no one on my friend's list watches college football. T_T

I put my votes down on the Big 10 teams for each matchup. Rooting for you guys despite odds in certain matchups! :D

Update: Added you.

Just a reminder dude bros, first Bowl Games are tomorrow so get your picks in!

You know what's awesome? Women's volleyball.

Yeah...

I went to a bunch of matches as a freshman (band) and it was pretty entertaining, plus asses!

Douglas has two years to play two, but considering his talent I think he is one-and-done. He is a short-term insurance policy.

Cyrus is a long-term solution, and it is rare for OL to play as a true freshman.

The two are unrelated when it comes to signing, and I say we get both.

We already have teams playing 14 game seasons with championship games, so two teams playing a 15 game season is not that ridiculous. Not to mention that those teams that play 14 games tend to schedule a couple of games that are simply scrimmages to begin with.

So reduce the regular season to 11 games maximum, with championship games for conferences that demand it. Then we go to the playoffs. No AQ bull shit, just the top 8 ranked teams playing in it based on AP, Coaches poll, and something similar to the BCS formula to determine those rankings. 1 vs.8, 2 vs. 7 and so on. That is 7 games total, so you integrate the top 7 bowl games into the playoff system on a revolving basis So Rose, Orange, Sugar, Cotton, Fiesta, and the next two biggest bowls would be the playoff games. Then you would still have all the other bowl games for the teams that did not make the top 8. Ignore all the traditional bowl matchups because the BCS has already destroyed that anyway and nobody seemed to care.

You still get your bowl games, the amount of games played is really only longer for two teams, and the whole thing would just be a whole lot more fun. Get it done.

Oh my, yes. And attractive, athletic womenz who are tall? Win.

I once went to a party at Cal where it was pretty much me and a few other dudes, plus the entire women's volleyball team. I was in heaven.

Einstein invented Cardinal Directions for a reason!
Georgia is the Einstein of the South.

FSU up to 7 early enrollees with a few more possible. That is one area that UF really killed us at in recent years and it makes a HUGE difference. I am thrilled we're getting all these guys in early so Vic can work his magic on them.

I'd rather go North/South, with the outliers being Wisconsin in the south and Nebraska in the north.
If they go with directions, North/South is the way to go.

For the most part, it works. And it's not like the geographic splits have to be perfect. The Colts are in the AFC South, for chrissakes.

NFL alignment is better then it used to be. Do you remember some of those divisions in the 90s? Like, New Orleans was in the NFC West.

The NHL is super screwy, too.

Columbus is in the West. :lol

Oh, i just remembered, it wasn't like there wasn't an easy fix either, because the Arizona Cardinals were in the NFC East!

Holy shit, the Saints were joined by the Falcons in the NFC West.

Dallas is still in the East. Just like TCU.

I think another division name they could have used was Great Lake/Plains. I think the division names now were a bunch of self masturbating thoughts, "hey were the big 10, the legends and leaders of today!"

They were pretty blatantly cooked up by Madison Avenue types. I doubt the Big Ten would have come up with something so unusual on their own.

They won't move Dallas because of the traditional rivalries.

Look at the current NFC West, there are no traditional rivalries in that division.

I like how the Big 10 hasn't said they'll change the division names, just that they'll consider it. I wouldn't be surprised if they decided to keep them.

No, that would have been the Barbasol Presents Legends Division and the Leaders Division Proudly Served by Rotel.

Just saw the bowl payout list per conference (in millions):

SEC - 41.8
Big10 - 36.7
Big12 - 32.1
ACC - 29.8
P10 - 24.2
BigEast - 23.7
MWC - 20.6
CUSA - 5.95
WAC - 3.3
MAC - 2.58
SunBelt - 1.83

Villanova is taking on Eastern Washington on ESPN2 if anyone is interested in seeing the most frighteningly red field in football.
