So, Joe Pa is apparently telling recruits he has 5-6 years left in him. I wonder if this is just bs so recruiting won't be hurt. Whats the record for oldest age to coach?
JoePa is such a selfish ass.

You're holding your program back. Just die already.

FUCKING PUMPED!!! LETS HIT THE FIELD COACH!!! WOOOO MUSCHAMP!!!

for those who cant see it live, he's been yelling for 25 minutes straight. Talk about a fiery coach.

Where exactly would we be going with another coach? It's not exactly like we've been in the dumps lately

You'd be able to inject some much-needed energy into your program. I would think recruits might prefer an actual leader at Penn State instead of a wrinkled old scrotum who doesn't do anything.

If you're content with having two decent seasons and then following it with three or four terrible ones, that's fine by me.

I hope heart conditions for your head coaches are contagious

Coach Boom, why?

What happened to Randy Shannon?

He wanted the job. Sounds like Mack didn't want him.

From what the timeline on Shannon sounds like..

1) He was set to be announced at Kentucky
2) Texas job comes open
3) He tells Kentucky to hold off a bit
4) Contacts Texas, gets an interview
5) Texas posts a job posting with requirements that look exactly like what Floridas DC has.
6) Shannon is still without a job.
7) I assume Kentucky will still offer him a job.

Jurrell Casey and Tryon Smith to the NFL :( Huge losses for us.

So what are your scholarship numbers looking like for next year? Will you be able to back count any early enrollees?

I haven't kept up on it but I know we're thin (obviously). I saw something the other day that said Kiffin has already secured a number of JC recruits who can enroll in January and thus fill out last year's class or whatever. I fully expect them to sign as many JC guys as they can who count for older scholarships.

After that I dunno. We got Robert Woods BFF from HS who has been a Trojan lock for years and it sounds like we're getting some other top notch SoCal talent. We're gonna be thin for awhile but I think we will get plenty of good quality recruits. I just hope they get enough JC guys to provide immediate depth. We had a lot of talent this year but you can't play a full game with only 22 guys.

Avery Walls (4-star safety) committed today, too. Hope Tedford can pick up some help on offense, as well.
We've got some good incoming RBs as usual (Bigelow, Lasco), but apparently OL recruits are on a downswing this year (though we did get Williams). We picked up another good QB in Boehm. Still could use some WR help, but we have a lot of young WRs, so I guess they're leaving that for now.

On the other hand, this is a killer defensive class. Jalil and Barr at DT, Gibson at OLB, now Walls at safety. If we can pick up a good corner (McClure?), this could be our best class in years.

I like how he deflected his Poodle roots by trumping them with UF roots. Hell, that spaceship house (next to his childhood home) is right down the street from the Swamp.

He talks the talk, but Zook and Meyer were both as energetic. Both with different results.

Edit: He mentioned he was glad to wear the correct orange and blue on the recruiting trail now. And also how his time at Georgia, Auburn, and LSU was just temporary insanity.

You're right. I have nothing but utmost respect for JoePa but I think his time has come.

I read this as Terry Schiavo and thought you were a real sick fuck for a minute.
Speaking of which, my bud's name in our fantasy league is KellerWonderSchaivo as in the Deaf Blind Mute trio.

There's got to be a better (i.e. none-classless) mute person he could have used.

I think KellerKellerKeller might have worked here...

Rumor is 5 OSU juniors filed NFL paperwork, doesnt mean anything yet, but Pryor wasnt one (not that anyone expects him to go) My biggest concern is losing Posey, and our center, Brewster.

So, rumor around Texas right now is Muschamp might have been the reason we installed a "pro-style" offense.

Evidently Mack is looking at going right back to the spread.. and Muschamp is trying to install a Pro-style offense in Florida.

So, Coach Boom sabotages our last season and then flees. I see how it is :(

Spread or spread-option? Passing spread is just as much part of "pro-style" now as the power run game.

So what's the word in G'ville about this anyway? Especially from a foreign diplomat point of view?

I'm not in G-Vegas, but I'm happy on the inside that Florida is going back to a pro-style offense. Every since Spurrier left, I just couldn't stomach watching the Gators. Of course, Spurrier has adapted his game here at South Carolina to a more spread style but it's not all crazy like Tebow-ville or anything.

I think the big story will be who the OC is going to be. Any word on that?

I've only spent one day in Gainesville since Urban stepped down (we can take most of our exams at home), but the Gator fans in my class were cautiously optimistic about the hire.

No one has any idea. Muschamp is playing it very close to the vest on this one. Apparently Foley gave him near autonomy in the assistant search.

Um, for all the whining fans do about JoePa, I just think of what happened when Osborne moved on in Nebraska. And in that sense, I can't really think of anyone outside of Pat Fitzgerald who find the PSU job a step and that I confidently feel would have the program doing substantially better over the long term.

Top 3 "30 for 30" documentaries were centered on College football, with "Pony Exce$$" being the most watched ESPN documentary ever.

AKA: Please broadcast more CFB documentaries, I NEEDZ IT!

Ok, so The U and Pony Excess were broadcast after the Heisman Trophy presentation, but The Best That Never Was did damn well standing on its own.

It makes sense when you consider the amount of college football ESPN broadcasts across it's stations.

I know they touched on it in 'The U', but they could spin-off the Notre Dame versus Miami game into it's own episode.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1988_Notre_Dame_vs._Miami_football_game

It's a pretty amazing game that touches on race in America, the old guard versus the new guard in collegiate football, it's rise in popularity as a televised sport and on and on.

Good to hear. The competition for spots on offense at the skilled positions should be pretty interesting next year, particularly if Vereen leaves. Some of the younger guys need to step up.

Also, I'm not sure if anyone posted this bit on ESPN streaming bowl games on XBL:

32 College Football Bowl Games to be Watchable on Xbox Live with ESPN

An update for the ESPN app on Xbox Live is being released today that will add some new functionality, with the most noteworthy news being that 32 college football bowl games will be watchable live, including all five BCS games (knowledge of how the BCS actually works not required).

Provided your service provider offers ESPN3 support, the app will allow you to watch a good deal of college football between now and January 10, the day of the BCS National Championship Game between Oregon and Auburn. The first of the 32 games kicks off this Saturday at 2PM EST between BYU and UTEP. The full schedule can be viewed here.

Beginning today, you'll be able to take part in the College Bowl Showdown, which allows you to make picks for all of the games and compete against friends. Various prizes can be won by participants including a tour of ESPN's headquarters and a trip to the ESPYs. You have to first register in order to take part by downloading a gamer picture -- find the details about that on Xbox.com.

Today's ESPN update also adds a "Play All" option for video clips and highlights. Rather than have to manually select each clip, the entire process can now be automated, including the ability to select only certain sports/leagues you want to watch clips of.

This may not fully replicate having cable television for sports fans without TV, but it sure is a nice way for college football fans to take in the final month of the season.

Top JUCO DE (#2 overall) and top OL (#4 overall) signed today with FSU, enrolling in January. Jimbo just keeps reeling em in.

Playoffs incoming?

DALLAS -- After two failed bids to buy a Major League Baseball team, billionaire Mark Cuban is seriously considering trying to use his money to create a playoff alternative to college football's Bowl Championship Series.

...

Cuban, who is reading the book "Death to the BCS," said he thinks it would take about three or four years of planning before enacting the playoff system. He believes it's a better business opportunity than owning a baseball team, and he admits he's intrigued by the idea of revolutionizing a major sport.
