I'm more than aware of the history of shittiness. Every time Wilbon came to talk, he'd hammer it in that he only saw 1 win through all his years at school. :lol
Speaking of Wilbon, I missed his appearances on campus, and I didn't see my 2010 friends graduate as well which he spoke there, too. I wonder if there's a script or recording of it somewhere. I'll check later.

The problem to me is that I hate fans that don't know the game, partially because I come from the south where High School football and the SEC is so damn huge regardless of age or gender. Since the Northwestern student body comes from all over the country, we have a healthy chunk of east coasters and Californians that never watched the game in the student body.
I have to admit. I used to be one of those fans. :lol Everyone has to start from somewhere.
If you look around college football nation, there are other fans from other schools like that as well (i.e. Stanford).

So when these folks try to talk up the team as being talented or having moxie, I just have to shake my head considering the talent gap between us and good programs. Not to mention that the praise for Fitz has sort of bothered me. I understand that he's done well with largely poor talent, but here's a guy that refuses to hire a special teams coach - a part of the team that has struggled and costs us 1-2 games every single year he's been here. Our punt and kick returners always look like headless chickens struggling to even catch the damn ball (see: Michigan State). Demos speaks for himself and part of that comes down to our blocking.
Recruiting will be there in time as long as the quality of the program keeps rising.
I have to agree on your statement for lacking a special teams coach. Right now, the coach is behind that one, and I suppose in time he'll either get better at that position or eventually it'll hit him one day.
Aside from that though, he's done well for 3 star recruits.

Also, we won't get any consistency until we get some new facilities. Ryan Field is without a doubt the worst stadium in the conference if not the damn region. My high school's gym is about ten times nicer than Welsh-Ryan. We have the 6th largest endowment in the country or whatever. I know schools have been more frugal with money since '08 but spend some of that shit on athletics facilities sooner rather than later. Ticket sales go hand-in-hand with the facilities.
With the new university president, no question will the facilities be revamped. That is on his priority list, and that will happen within time. I would say the next few years.
I kind of wish Northwestern would put a plan action to build a stadium next to Norris at the lake, but I know that's not going to happen.
Regardless, yes, the facilities are old and do need a revamp. Most of our endowment is spent on research though, which the school highly prides itself for it.

Don't get me started on Carmody.
Although Carmody is not the same caliber as Fitzgerald is in skill for their respective sports, he's had a lot to work with Northwestern basketball. At least now, recruiting is much better than it has been in decades, if not forever. Now Northwestern is not taking foreign players (i.e. Croatian) and is raking in more of Chicago recruits, which makes more sense. How did even Northwestern had problems recruiting in their own backyard is a head scratcher.
Otherwise, the Princeton Offense, while somewhat genius, only goes so far, and Carmody can't teach his guys to defend at all or get boards. Ugh. That's what bugs me most of the team.
I suppose this will be the year that finally the team makes it to the NCAA dance for the first time in school history. Really hope that happens, but I won't be surprised if it doesn't.

EDIT: Oh, I'm graduated, mane. Think we're the same age.
2009? I graduated a tad bit later in the summer as I needed a project to finish, but that's awesome.
I thought I was the only Northwestern guy on GAF. :lol
