From Ted Miller, the Pac-10 coaches' salaries for 2010:

[Lane Kiffin, USC, $4,000,000]
Chip Kelly, Oregon, $2,400,000
Jeff Tedford, California, $2,305,000
Steve Sarkisian, Washington, $1,850,004
Dennis Erickson, Arizona State, $1,503,000
Mike Stoops, Arizona, $1,385,838
Rick Neuheisel, UCLA, $1,276,000
[Jim Harbaugh, Stanford, $1,250,000]
Mike Riley, Oregon State, $1,110,000
Paul Wulff, Washington State, $600,650

The private schools don't have to release salaries, so those are based on what has been reported rather than actual numbers from the school.

So... who's more egregiously overpaid, Kiffikins or Tedford?

Les Miles, with his $1 over the highest paid coach clause. Saban quietly making 5.997 million dollars next year.

Overpaid is always Kiffikins, always.
And no wonder Harbaugh is looking elsewhere.

uh oh...

There are now multiple reports stating that Urban Meyer will step down at 5PM as head coach of the Florida Gators. A press conference is scheduled for 5PM Eastern.

Twitter account Gator Updates reported the story, and it was echoed by national radio host Todd Wright. Long-time state of Florida reporter Brett McMurphy is also reporting the story.

It is TN reporting this though. Could be bullshit.

I think he was banking on Brantley to bring him another championship. That ain't gonna happen while he is there, so he might as well get out while the going is still good. Could look like Texas next year...

ESPN's reporting the Urban Meyer story as well.

I'm figuring this may be it for a few years because of his health issues and his kids.

Was just getting ready to post this, wonder if this will be just a break like last time.

I bet Dan Mullen comes back as head coach.

Edit: heres official words on it

Urban Meyer is stepping down as football coach at Florida, the school's athletic director announced Wednesday.

"I fully grasp the sacrifices my 24/7 profession has demanded of me, and I know it is time to put my focus on my family and life away from the field," Meyer said.

I've heard from multiple sources that Kiffin doesn't make anywhere near $4million.

Meyer to step down until next year

Yep, I've heard the 4 million bandied for more of a cumulative for the 3 parts of the staff though.

What? Meyer couldn't recruit and is running away again? He won at Utah with the former coach's recruits too.
Not to be derogatory, but the Mountain West ain't the SEC.

It won't happen, but I would kill for Bob Stoops to leave OU for the UF job.

My money is on Mullen.
That would make sense, although Florida should be able to hire an already-established head coach from a major program. It's probably a top-3 job in the entire country.

Plus, Mike Gundy will clearly never beat Bob Stoops

He was getting close to Tom Osborne and Barry Switzer's vaunted win percentages.

Alas, it wasn't meant to be, sticking with Brantley would just relegate him to mid major status :P

Pretty sure Florida's had Top 5 classes each of the last 3 years.

Also, that 2006 class was epic with Tebow, Hernandez, Harvin, James, Cooper, Spikes, Johnson, Cunningham, and Spikes.

I don't think recruiting was the issue with Urban. His last few classes haven't panned out with explosives guys, but you have to trust this guy's track record vs. this bad year. Anyone would be happy to take this guy if he becomes available.

I said the same thing about USC and we got Lane Kiffin, so yeah.

I really wanted Chris Pederson but he's pretty staunch about not wanting to leave Boise.

Huh.

So how long until he announces he's changed his mind?

What the hell are you talking about? Have you heard of Tim Tebow or Percy Harvin?

I'd like to hope we could get better than Mullen.

I think Kiffen was the best USC could get because coaches knew they were going to get hit by sanctions.

Florida, you know there is only one coach you should hire: Mike Leach.

College football is just not entertaining without Mike Leach :(

Also, ChiTownBuffalo, congrats on getting Urban Meyer as the Broncos coach.

:lol

Mullen or Strong for HBC!

I heard that after watching Gundy's incredible season in Stillwater, the Gators forced Urban out.

Gotta strike while the iron's hot.

Honestly Mike Leach is a good fucking coach. He got totally showed by ESPN thanks to Craig James. It never appeared to anybody outside of ESPN that what he was doing was nearly as bad as they implied.

The dude is SMART too. This article (http://j.mp/goQwB9) from the Palm Beach Post points out that under Leach, Texas Tech had the highest graduation rate for football layers among all public universities. He'd keep students on the field, in the classroom, and out of the papers. That's not exactly something Urban Meyer can claim.

Could be hard for FL to get a good coach. I am sure they will go after Mullen though as he might be the only one to salvage their "talent." One thing people don't ever remember is that no one wants to replace someone as successful as Meyer. Happened to FL when they had to replace SOS and were forced to settle for the Zooker.

Pretty amazing that he was able to accomplish that from the TTU campus. :D

This is what worries me the most. Of course, after the Addazio debacle some fans will give the new HC more leeway than Zook was given.

I'm pretty sure Tebow's recruitment is attributed to Mullen, not Meyer.

Urban needs to prove continued success. He needs to build a program that's successful for 10+ years before I'll get excited by him. He stepped into a golden opportunity at both Utah and Florida. Yes, he did well, but with the recruiting classes he was supposedly getting, the results don't impress. Either the players are overrated or they're undercoached.

Meyer should of left last year

Yeah, this season has been UGLY for UF. And what a dick move to announce this before the bowl game. Finish the damn season and then make the announcement. Now there's this distraction hanging over the players' heads. I hope UF gets crushed by Penn State worse than the beating FSU put on them.

You must be the only person in the world unimpressed by 2 BCS and SEC titles in his first few years. :lol

Dammit. Fixed. There are too many fucking schools in Texas. How am I supposed to keep them straight?
Texas is the regular one. Tech is the pirate one. Baylor is the Jesus one. A&M is the dumb one.

Um. He just retired. Maybe you didn't hear?

The right coach (Gary Patterson?) could find himself in a very good position if both UF and UM are interested in hiring him. Those programs both want an incredible coach and you can bet they will fight each other tooth and nail if they both happen to want the same guy.

Remember when Barry Switzer took over the Cowboys and won a Super Bowl? That was great, but continued success eluded him. If Meyer wants to prove himself, he needs to be consistent for more than one recruiting class window.

Um. He just retired. Maybe you didn't hear?

I'm speaking more on his legacy than going forward.
