It is partly true, though. With zero fanbase, and no high success for the better part of this decade, it is hard to call them elite anymore...

Eh, I wouldn't exactly call them elite, either. There's no question that they have loads of talent, though. Will be interesting to see if whoever they bring in as their next coach can not only retain that talent, but make something positive out of it too.

I kind of think of Miami as a very delicate job, like a really volatile explosive. If handled right, you can get a top 10 team and be the enemies of the college football world.

On the other hand, when handled badly (which is most likely going to happen)....

You have a lineman running into a fight swinging his helmet like a mace with the radio guy ranting about not bringing that to the OB and wanting to go down and join the fight.

I leave for a few hours to key some locks, and BOOM Motherfucker.

That's one Dastardly Esophagus.

Yeah, but top 25 in Miami is below-par for what the few fans left expect. They still think they're in the glory days.

Also, who wants to coach for a school whose fans, well, alumni, are so apathetic towards their team? I know they have a lot of "fans", but these are people from all around the country who otherwise wouldn't know where the school even was if it weren't for the fact that it was the name.

They have fans in the same way the Miami Heat have "fans."

I'm pretty sure Tebow's recruitment is attributed to Mullen, not Meyer.

Urban needs to prove continued success. He needs to build a program that's successful for 10+ years before I'll get excited by him. He stepped into a golden opportunity at both Utah and Florida. Yes, he did well, but with the recruiting classes he was supposedly getting, the results don't impress. Either the players are overrated or they're undercoached.

What about Pete Carroll? His college career was shorter than Urban's but he had the same level of success at USC. Does he not impress you?

How about Nick Saban? 2 MNCs at two different schools neither of which he was at for more than 5 years.

I mean I can say seeing this about a guy like Les Miles, but I dunno Urban Meyer.

-NeoTB1- said:
So this automatically means that the U is no longer a major college football program? Please. I understand the mentality of "what have you done for me lately", but sometimes people gotta learn when to take the blinders off.

Miami is less of a name program right now than Notre Dame.

Kids who are coming out to play college football aren't even old enough to remember the last time Miami was good.

Yeah, but a coach with just a little amount of talent should be able to form a top 25 team with south Florida talent.

You could say the same about So Cal talent, but then look at ucla!

Who knows. I know some Florida fans that have though for a while that Dan Mullen was the brains behind it. One of which told me soon as Mullen left that the program was going to take a dip.

Holy crap, they were 8.

GOD DAMN IT! I AM NOT OLD! :(

I remember a lot of fans wanting to fire Dan Mullen. Our offensive success in 2007/2008 was probably more attributed to Percy Harvin and Tebow. We won a NC because of Strong's defense. I don't think Mullen is an elite coach.

Yeah, Miami had 2 or 3 great years at the turn of the century.

I can see Urban getting a cushy job going into Florida, where it recruits itself, but I saw someone type that he's not been recruiting very well and had success off his successor's players, and this is straight up Bullshit. Urbz had constant Top 5 Recruiting Classes. Last year's class was just sickening. Yeah, the coaching he gave this season was below average, but that team is loaded with Talent. Miles could switch to Florida now, and live off the talent for 15 years.

The talent which Les gets from those who are not those which he himself recruited are not the same as when he coaches the students to their prime.

It's sad but true. only 20k at Shannon's last game? Who doesn't show up to see you play an in-state team. Hell, Miami isn't that far from Tampa and you can bet a good number of those fans were cheering for the Bulls. I can't imagine how abysmal attendance would have been against a lower tier ACC opponent like Virginia or Duke. Ugh.

The state of this Miami program is not anywhere near where the directors think it is. They have no fans, they have shit facilities (you'd think a private school with a massive football history could afford better), their former "home" stadium was 20 minutes away (and is being replaced by a baseball stadium). Their current "home" stadium is closer but is the Dolphin's stadium, not theirs. Plus nobody shows up anyway.

I heard on the radio about how the Heat have spent all this money and nobody shows up to the games, even with LeBron there. The "elite" that do go to the stadium all hang out in the club (typical Miami) until the 2nd half.

The city just doesn't care about sports. Maybe if they had a world class Beach Vollyball team or something...

If you think reading Les speak is hard, try writing it.

I tried a couple weeks ago.

I have recovered amount around Nil that have myself given.

Tons of life-longs then, who could ask for more?

The guys selling the tickets at Pro Shark Life Stadium. I wonder if 20K fans is even enough to cover the cost of setting up the stadium for the Canes. Costs a lot to put on a football game, especially when you are renting the stadium!

Good luck with that, my wife is currently looking for a job too (seeing as how her boss didn't get re-elected).

If you're half the lawyer that you are GAFfer, you're gonna find something awesome. :D

Thanks, I hope so. I just landed a job interview next Wednesday, so fingers crossed! :)

I hope your wife finds something quickly. Was she working for a state legislator or a judge?

Where abouts? I have an old high school friend who just passed the bar earlier this year in FL. I think she got a job down in Fort Lauderdale.

I'm licensed in Alabama. Well, I'm in "good standing" with the Alabama Bar. Greedy bastards wanted $300 for a license.

I hope Florida goes after Patterson. I'll laugh like I haven't laughed since...since...VT swept through the ACC!

It would be a true delight. Probably the highlight of the year for me next to Nebraska leaving for the Big 10.

Meyer's real reason for leaving Florida: "He just wanted to see his friend again, and shake his hand."

Uh Oh 4 star LB UF commit Ryan Shazier is taking an official visit to OSU this week. Big chance he un-commits and comes to play for OSU. CUM's move could kill their recruiting class.

I'm at a business meeting on Long Island fueled by copious amounts of alcohol, so I'm behind on pretty much everything this week.

SMH at Urban Meyer. What a fucking drama queen. He'll be back coaching at some other SEC school in two years, tops.

They were supposed to have 21 official visitors this weekend. It was their biggest recruiting weekend of the year.

I've heard it theorized that Meyer really did want to step down last year, but once he heard his job would have gone to Bob Stoops he decided to stick it out one year to buy his buddy Mullen some time to be his true successor.

Is there any way Jacquizz Rogers has a career in the NFL? I feel like his size disadvantage (+speed) could actually be an asset in that league.

there's a chance, he's actually not that much smaller than LaMichael James, who is sure to be a 1st round draft pick. It's a crap shoot, for every MoJo or Sproles there are smaller backs who don't make it, but he should get his shot.

Jaquizz is 5'7" right? I'd like to stand next to him to see if he's fudging an inch or two. He looks 5'5" on TV

Ehh. He's probably gonna be another Yvenson Bernard. I think he's taken too much of a pounding in college, he probably breaks down in 2 years.

Everything out of OU says Stoops will never leave at this point. He's just built a giant house there, they're putting a statue of him up in a couple years at the stadium, and it's the only place his kids have known.

edit: Heard on radio here that ESPN is looking to replace Corso on Gameday and Meyer would be a player on that.

Supposedly there was a preliminary deal to bring in Stoops. Nothing official, of course. But Meyer wasn't buying time for Mullen, but Addazio. At least, that was his hope. He wanted to have his hands still in the program. With stoops there that never would've happened. Plus all the current assistants would've been replaced. Meyer didn't want that either because it was so late in the cycle they would have had trouble getting new jobs.

Yea, that was the one thing I gathered watching him in a few games this year. He seems to take a lot of punishment for a guy that's supposed to be elusive.

Oh, ok. Well good luck to you. My friend went through hell to get the job she has now.

Yeah, it's true they have a really laughable fanbase. I was born and raised in south FL, so growing up as a kid I remember seeing them a lot in person and on TV. Even back then, their fans always seemed very fickle. I think the analogy of their fans being like Miami Heat fans was spot on. Lots of bandwagoners.

Honestly, I hope they continue to have struggles. Well, at least when they play GT. :D

Okay, can someone please help me understand the BCS error?

Everybody that I read (PTI, Sports Illustrated, etc) all say something to this effect (I'm quoting from an SI article).

Sports Illustrated said:
That omission distorted the BCS rankings. LSU and Boise State were swapped at No. 10 and No. 11, and Alabama and Nebraska were swapped at No. 17 and No. 18.

The trouble is that Alabama is #16, Texas A&M is #17, and Nebraska is #18. So what actually happened here? Everyone seems focused on Boise State and is (apparently) misreporting what happened here.

No thank you. Meyer seems like he'd be too awkwardly serious on camera (e.g. Bob-o). Also, this wouldn't jive with his personal commitment to spend more time with his kids.
