College Football Week 3: The Witching Hour

At Texas A&M student ticket prices are about $200 for the season (individual student tickets generally aren't available because they sell out with the season option). You can get a guest ticket but that requires a student ID to get and use (only one per sports pass).

That said we are a little different in that they reserve 30k student seats (far more than most places).... so they need to recoup more of that revenue.

UT was about 150 for a student season ticket on top of 60 for the Longhorn All Sports Pass. Or you could justpay for the LASP and do a ticket pull.. it was next to impossible to get games to decent games as an underclassman without a season ticket pass. They always sold out of student season tickets, but always kept a few thousand for the ticket pull.

edit: all of this was accurate as of 2005. So, it's probably different now that the new endzone is built.

Bobby Bowden surprisingly humble in SI.com's OU-FSU prediction: SI.com: OU v. FSU

Back when I was an undergrad, you had to sign up online, you got a number, and then you had to line up outside the ticket office later that week. Then they called out numbers and you turned in vouchers (which you picked up at the start of the semester) in exchange for tickets. This was great because if you didn't want your vouchers, you could just sell them off to people that needed extras, and when you turn them in you can turn in up to 10. This was so you could sit with your friends, and only one of you would need to bother to wake up hella early to get the tickets. Now all the student tickets are general admission, which is also nice but it means you can't easily sell your spot since the tickets are print-at-home and have your name on them, and they do a decent job of checking IDs at the gate.

When I was at FSU, we had to pick up our vouchers in Oglesby Union, then go to the ticket office at Dick Howser to redeem them. For big games, we camped out in front of DH. Great times camping out too

Read this in the paper this morning. Our sports writer isn't very good, but it made me chuckle:

Navy at South Carolina: The Midshipmen are undefeated, but short of bringing in a squad of Seals, they will find the experience in Columbia, S.C., to be a rough trip. The Gamecocks are going to be confident coming off a big victory in Athens, Ga. Coach Steve Spurrier never takes an opponent lightly, and he will be on guard for this game. South Carolina 28, Navy 21

Breaking News: Texas to join UEFA. Will continue to field and play by American Football rules. Not sure how this is going to work, but they agreed to the LHN.

9.95 can be sent to my paypal account.

Will have to learn to ride ponies European style. They will probably look cuter trotting in any case.

Maybe I'm being foolish, but depending on how we play against maryland I still think we can beat LSU next week. Although look at this shit: Maryland had a bye week to prepare for us, and LSU has 10 days to prepare

Well two of marylands receivers just got suspended yesterday. They had 13 combined catches in the first game. Could help.

Ooh, Tedford's in trouble!
California coach Jeff Tedford has been reprimanded by the Pac-12 Conference for criticizing officials days after a 36-33 overtime win at Colorado.

Pac-12 Commissioner Larry Scott said in a statement Thursday that the league expects each "coach to adhere to our standards of conduct and to conduct himself or herself in a manner which will reflect credit on the institution and the Conference."

Tedford had said this week that officials incorrectly called a personal foul penalty on Trevor Guyton after the defensive end tackled Buffaloes running back Rodney Stewart at the end of a pass play. He said that Stewart wasn't ruled down and no whistle had blown. The play extended Colorado's touchdown drive in the third quarter Saturday.

The league didn't announce Tedford's penalty.
I wondered if this would happen. He was absolutely correct, but you never get away with criticizing officials publicly.

Imp: What is this?

What is it???

Pretty cool webpage. I know it's not going to be 100% accurate, but the stands "feel" further away from the field, compared to Bryant Denny. Parts of the upper deck feel like it's right over the field there.

As of 2 years ago Bama student tickets were only $7/game. Plus the $10k or so in tuition and other expenses.

From '95 to '00 tickets were $5 each ($4.70 plus a $0.30 handling charge), and I got a full allotment of all home games every year. That may or may not have been an appropriate price considering that a couple of those seasons were with Dubose as HC.

Our student tickets were free when I was in school, but then they decided the stadium needed to no longer look like an erector set so they charge not really sure how much though. Sucks for current students though cause they have had to pay and the team has sucked balls. While when I was there they were free and going 8-4 was disappointing.

Nebraska student tickets are $21 each (still, I believe). If a non-full-time student uses them, they must be validated up to face value.

This year freshmen didn't get tickets, the seniors/juniors/sophs gobbled almost all up before they had a chance. I guess they did create some new standing room seats for them though.

Yeah places have gotten anal about checking ids now. I use to go to away games at my friend's collages and sit in the student sections in the early 00s. It would be a bitch and a half to do that now.

Oh the joys of seeing your team win and cheering in the opposing teams student section! :P

PS: Just gotta make sure you don't celebrate to much so you can get out of the student section alive. hehehe

I think they went up to $7 some time around 2002. $5/ticket + $2 handling fee.

I heard they only gave them another hundred or so. That brings me to this question, what is the standard student section size anyway?

Nebraska student section is right around 10% of the stadium size, so 8500 tickets or so.

When school is in session I think we have around 20-30k student tickets. Although we only have really 2 dedicated student sections that are general admission, known as Block O, these sections are only around 2k. The rest of the students are spread throughout the north and south parts of the stadium.

Agreed. I'm a Mountaineer fan and it's probably the homer in me, but I've been surprised to see so many people pick against WVU in this thread. I realize they could lose, but I think Maryland's win over Miami was a bit overrated and WVU's first two wins were a bit underrated. I know it's inferior competition (even with Miami's suspensions), but I felt we looked good both games. Well, maybe not the first half of the Norfolk game. :/

Regardless, it's always an entertaining game against Maryland. Edsall got us last year with UCONN, but I have a feeling we'll come out ready to fight Saturday afternoon.

I really hope I don't miss the game. My fiancee and I are in the middle of moving, but the positive is that we'll be at our new house tomorrow and the Directv man should be in somewhere between 8:00 and Noon.

I just found that site a few weeks ago and have spent an embarrassing amount of time on it. It's magical! The views are remarkably accurate, too.

You're right about the stands feeling farther away from the field than in many stadiums. I haven't been to Bryant Denny yet, but Clemson's Memorial Stadium and LSU's Tiger Stadium seemed to have significantly steeper seating arrangements, especially in the upper decks.

Here's a view from the very front row of the upper deck on the 50. (My photo and a 3D site snapshot)

Edit: they have more schools, including Cal at AT&T Park. Check out the student section view!

Interesting, I'd be curious to see how that compares to others as it seems we are way off from The OSU.

it sickens me that I actually put The in there :)

We're also the largest school, well we flip back and forth with Texas, so we have over 50k students.

Sure, but as a percent of the seating capacity you are around 20% where dear old NU is at 10% or so.

For Arkansas, there are 9,500 tickets (less for the Little Rock games) for the students. The student size for the university is around 20,000.

Well,

Texas BOR has put realignment on the agenda for Monday (72 hour filing notice requirement in the state of Texas).. 2 hours after OUs.

Turn out the lights, the party's over.

Wonder if we are heading somewhere with OU or if we are having a parting of the ways. The meetings being scheduled the same day tells me we are at the very least on the same page as them and communicating.

edit: Texas' meeting is via teleconference, only concerns conference alignment, specifically contracting and is 30 minutes long. Something is already done and in place. What? I have no idea. The rumor mill died about 3 days ago.

Hey I'm just hoping its close after the two wrs were suspended. I've gotta rep my school.

@LandThieves let the record show it was weakened by Texas, put in the hospital by tamu and Nebraska, and smothered with a pillow by OU

:jnc @ Colorado having 0 part in this.

San Diego State is going to be tough on the road but I think the Cougs can pull off a win! Next up Colorado and UCLA. This is the best schedule we've had in a long time!

Don't guzzle the Kool-aid just yet. Wazzu looked great in its first two games--against cupcakes, at home. SD St isn't a big name, but it's no pushover.

Colorado's tough at home, and UCLA... well, who knows what you'll get from them any given week. If you can beat SD St, you have a shot at bowl eligibility, but that schedule's no cakewalk.
