Completely mediocre games...that you just can't stop playing.

People dislike Other M because of the story and design choices associated with the story, not to mention some of the voice acting and translation. They over-analyze every aspect of the story and knock it like it ruined an entire franchise and character. Metroid is my favorite franchise of all time and even I enjoyed the game for what it was even if the story wasn't exactly good.

this! Nice game, but so lacking on the Metroid-feel of Isolation :/ (And kinda short, 8 hours and I've 100% the game on Normal)

The first Assassin's Creed was full of offensive design choices, yet for some reason I felt compelled to play through the entirety of it.

I was going to say the same thing

Once I came out of the 167 hour 'trance' all my desire to continue playing completely disappeared

I don't think I could play more than 10 minutes now
I made it to 6 yesterday

Also going to echo Diablo 3. Mediocre in many ways but it's just right enough for me to have played it pretty much every day since release

Put me in the Skyrim camp as well. Really nothing great about the game but I put in about 100 hours. It didn't require much attention so I could mute the tv and it made a really awesome podcast game and since GOTY stuff was going on when I played the most of it there was sooooo much podcast listening to be done.

I guess it might not count as "I can't stop playing" since I haven't touched the game in months, though, but it was the only thing I played around the end of last year/start of this one. Close enough.

Rage has the best gun play of any FPS in years imo. They could have skipped the whole openworld/driving part. They could have put in any background story or setting that fit the mechanics and the game would have been just as good or even better

That's the proof of good gamplay to me. They could have just made generic corridors and the shooting mechanics would have been just as good. Enemy movement, the feel of the guns and the combanition of tools you have during combat make it one of the best feeling shooters in years. To bad that the rest of the game wasn't just based around that or it would have been perfect imo. They should have just went with labyrinth type maps with some hidden secrets and a story based on that and the game would have been perfect imo.

Maybe even just a small hub town that's directly connected between a lot of dungeonlike labyrinths would have been better.

Dark Void. Pretty average game but I couldn't stop playing it. And it being short also helped.

oh, that's good to hear. have it lying around somewhere.

Loved...

wait a minute did someone post Diablo 3?

Just Dance 3 Wii. The motion controls don't respond very well and the soundtrack is quite forgettable, but goddamn that game is really addictive, I even play it on my own most of the time. I think I won't stop playing it until I get 5 stars in every song...

Mass Effect 2

Everything about the game's level design and encounter design is so bog-standard/ordinary in execution; it really does feel like 'my first cover shooter.' Or rather, like an RPG developer that has no real experience making a TPS, trying to learn how to make TPS levels and encounters as they go along. Story, writing, and characters were nothing special so it wasn't too long before I tuned out everything to do with that. I really only liked two things about it: the visual design and some of the music. It was just enough to carry me through it; I really did want to see where I would go next. The quest system/list too, is as addictive as it's ever been.

Alice: Madness Returns

It really is the epitome of being dragged out. Platforming is bland. Combat is, I guess, slightly above average? Story is really only just alright but it does at least feel like it's interesting and interpretive; I kinda did want to see what dark turns it would take. But this was basically another game I played for the visual design; and it does often look amazing.

I don't really regret my time with either, they both really did look great.

Skyrim, Rage and Diablo 3 are now considered mediocre games? Well than the games I would consider mediocre must have been downright hideous in reality.

Rage is just very underrated imo. Maybe the gunplay isn't as fun on consoles though. Never played the console version.

The only one I can think of is Puzzle Quest.

Yes, it´s mediocre. And that´s because of the abysmal story parts, the slow pacing, the lack of challenge in 4/5 challenges, etc.

It actually bothered me so much that I didn´t stop playing it, that I asked Steam support to remove it from my account.

Silent Hill: Downpour

The enemy encounters make this game not mediocre but outright BAD. And I still want to continue...

You don't have to hide your feelings here man, you can tell us about your excitement throughout to see which dress Alice will be wearing in the next chapter.

Title: Completely medicore games...that you just can't stop playing.

Wait, seriously ? Because I have X-Blades (Collector edition lolololol) and I find it really really mediocre

You found gold

Serious Sam.... there I said it... sure its fun but it's very mediocre compared to the games it tries to copy and FarCry 2 multiplayer and daikatana on lan.

Oh and Postal 2. THe game itself is utter crap. But it's so stupid and original that it still remain compelling. It even offers a lot of original ideas they are just very janky.

Diablo III.

It's addicting, definitely. Unfortunately it's far, far, far away from complete - infested with tons of bad gameplay-choices and glitches. Let's hope things change in the future.
This, sadly. But if patch 1.03 and 1.1 don't fix it I'll stop playing until the xpac.

OK, not necessarily mediocre, but games whose overall quality doesn't come close to justifying the amount of time people put into them.

Really mediocre RPG, even moreso by Obsidian standards but I can't put it down :([/QUOTE]
Just finished this game for the third time, last week.

Also recently reinstalled Dragon Age 2 (PC), this time I will play a modded custom character Rouge maxing out Dual Weapon, Assasin, and Blood Mage, might add Tevinter Fugitive to finish the build.

Diablo 3, running into so many OBVIOUSLY poor design decisions make me question how much they actually tested Hell and Inferno.

*Edit Kpop, If you judge the games at face value instead of branding and hype, you will find the same issues.

Skyrim, Rage and Diablo 3 are now considered mediocre games? Well than the games I would consider mediocre must have been downright hideous in reality.

I was going to say Skyrim as well but it's only because of the combat. It's so bad that it affects my opinion of the entire game. I really can't stand it. Mostly because I just finished dark souls which really has great combat. So yea, Skyrim is my choice as well.

Battlefield 3...........This game has potential to be so epic, but the bjorked patches and content packs really keep it from being great. It seems like everytime Dice patches, you end up with freezing issues and other nonsense.

Warriors Orochi 3. I don't even know if I would be kind enough to call it mediocre but it's got that dynasty warriors formula that hooked me back in the day. It helps that I've gone a few years without playing one of them so it doesn't feel as stale to me.

Dissidia 12

impulse bought it recently. Hate pretty much everything about it, but it's still fun. But these characters... this 'story'. fuck SE. fuk.

Uncharted 3 and Mass effect 3 multi. Uncharted 3 is quite good actually but it doesn't have enough guns, DLCs that split the community and and many many bugs like people shooting you through the walls make it somewhat mediocre. But I can't stop playing it!

I can see why some people would love skyrim. To me I couldn't make the leap required so the combat, character interaction, quests, setting, skills, all mediocre.

But I still finished it and I will probably play the next one too.

I spent a couple of days playing Onechanbara once, after picking it up for 5€. :-|

i used to play Maple Story obsessively, but thankfully those days are over.

I go there every year or so for a month or two. Thankfully it's easy for me to stop and I never paid them anything.

Battlefield 3. The maps are terrible compared to BC2, not everything is destructible like it was in BC2, player count on consoles is ridiculous and the maps are too big.

But everytime I turn my X360 on it's BF3, BF3, BF3. Just had a 5 hours session, and everytime I start thinking "why did I sell BC2"? :/

**Let me add

Split/Second, crazy, love it, but yeah mediocre all around:

Oh and FEAR 2 which most people seem to have forgotten all about:

fear2_2.jpg

What the fuck? First off, Split/Second is one of the best racing games of this entire generation. Its amazing. Period.

Second, FEAR 2 stands as the best entry in the series. Its way under-rated. If you'd have said FEAR 3 I'd have given you that one, but not the best game in the series.

What is the common sentiment around here on Final Fantasy: 4 Heroes of Light? I know it got some bad reviews from people who didn't like the inventory and battle systems, but I think it is wonderful. A great blend of classic and modern gameplay with unique mechanics and beautiful presentation.

Guitar Hero 3. An absolutely awful game with an incredible soundtrack. "Raining Blood" by Slayer was the final straw.

For a while, Game Dev Story. I later got the soccer one from thinking it would be more interesting, but I stopped playing that after like an hour and never looked back at Kairosoft games.
