Confirmed by Nintendo: All characters in Smash Bros. are just toys that came to life

Love the idea of busting long-standing Nintendo mysteries like:

1. How do Link, Zelda, and Ganondorf appear in so many games without aging? Why do they always seem not to know each other? This just doesn't make sense.

2. Why does a Lakitu follow Mario around in Super Mario 64? What purpose does he fulfill? This just doesn't make sense.

3. Why can't Metroid crawl? This just doesn't make sense.

4. Why are Wario and Waluigi named so similarly to Mario and Luigi? Why Ws? Why not Dark Mario and Dark Luigi? This just doesn't make sense.

5. Why does James McCloud look just like Fox McCloud in sunglasses? What is there relationship? Did he know Fox's dead father? This just doesn't make sense.

These are the jokes, people.

So all that naughty fan-art you see on the internet is same thing as when kids used to rub their toys together and say they are having sex?

Lakitu is probably a pervert and at the very least a stalker. Dude just hangs around without being invited.

Did they come under fire for the slapstick violence in the games? This just seems so random (since the fact is so explicit in the games themselves) a thing to say, unless they were on the defensive.

There are friendly Lakitu (like the one in the Mario Kart games). Or, given how terrible the camera is in Mario 64, maybe he's there to sabotage you.

Actually, what if... Mario is actually in a coma the whole time? Or what if Mario DIED?

NO, PEACH is the one who died! Mario is running around the empty castle dealing with his grief! The Lakitu is grief!

You're gonna need to explain this to me >.>

Hmm...Temper tantrum?

That sounds possible.

I mean, thats what the opening of Smash 64 shows...no ?

This. I personally often thought that characters 'return' to their world once they become a trophy, though that would still go against the 'Mario isn't really beating up Pikachu' philosophy.

Random?
Oh, you mean how it's explicitly shown here and here?

Yeah, so very random.

Probably not going to be a popular opinion but even though this has been the case the whole time, it's always been really lame and kind of a waste of crossover potential. Like, it diminishes the cool factor of Mario fighting Sonic if it's not actually Mario and not actually Sonic, you know?

You mean all those Newgrounds videos of Mario fighting Sonic weren't the real deal?

What about Pit and Palutena in Smash 4? Snake in Brawl? Is it any less damaging to the integrity of the characters (lol) when the "toy come to life" versions of the characters have the exact same memories and personalities of their "real" counterparts?

Or from another perspective, who is making a Mario toy that looks so angry? Why? What makes assist trophies and Pokeballs less alive? Is the lava and fire at the bottom of castle siege fake fire come to life? Who would make such a thing?

It can still be real in your head!

smh

A child's mind, duh.
And why does the toy game and watch release shadow bugs that create demons once it comes to life?
The shadow bugs are demons of the past, when videogames/figurines were much more of a taboo.

How does a Game and Watch plushy even work?

That doesn't make it any less troubling. Couldn't the child also imagine playing as the actual characters rather than toys of the characters come to life? Pit's memories from Smash carry into the games as well, so even this imaginary toy version of himself affects him in some way. For all intents and purposes, the real Pit and real Snake are fighting in these games. If they think and act the same, who are you to say they aren't real?

It's also worth noting that since this child requires the toys to imagine adventures about him that they are not completely in control of the situation. These toys have minds of their own once they come to life, and Subspace demons and Taboo can actually harm Master Hand and interact with him as well, so there's clearly more going on than just an overactive imagination. We're talking about toys literally coming to life.

You got it now. A fantasy of a fantasy is still a fantasy.
Exactly, right? So why make the distinction in the first place? This is just as harmful to character integrity, which is a really important thing to maintain. I'm surprised concerned parents and fans aren't more upset about the aggregious violations of character motivations taking place here, toys or not.

It is just a meta layer to prevent nerds from hurting themselves or something.

"Something" being maintaining a family-friendly image.

Nah, i'm totally rejecting that
It was definitely true for the previous smash games, but for Smash IV? Nah.

Initially it was just dolls. Then a malevolent company got wind of a great idea and produced toys of those characters for everyone to play with.

But then the dark times came, and those statue toys would have to fight to the death, for fear of being turned back to toys.

Now that they have broken the curse, the characters are free to live their lives as they want, and fight with whoever they want.

We live in Smash's world. Nintendo to trap people in toys circa 2017 confirmed.

They already sorted that out back in 2011.

The Hyrule Historia timeline, official or not, doesn't make sense. If a timeline was created just because Link failed to stop Ganondorf, which canonically did not happen, then there would be at least two timelines branching out of every single Zelda game.

That said, the dual timeline theory doesn't obey Ocarina's own rules of time travel. So nothing makes sense.

Although it was pretty obvious from the N64 intro, the whole invitation-themed promotional material for Smash 4 seems like it drops this theme. Like, Villager "getting a letter" then running off to Smash Brothers land doesn't really have anything to do with toys come to life.

Of course, the Awkward Zombie version where they all sort of work for Master Hand in one big clubhouse will always be the real canon to me.

This doesn't explain how Smash character traits and experiences translate to the base game. Like "Smash" Kirby, Kirby's Master Hand Boss, the way Fountain of Dreams looks, Bowser being able to retreat into his shell and spin, the Falcon Punch in the F-Zero Anime, Pit knowing about Smash, Roy, Marth and Ike teaming up in FE:A, the Greninja released in Japan knowing his 4 Smash moves, plus all the trophies explaining in Smash universe stuff like how Ness knows PSI powers he can't learn and the invitation Villager got in the mail.

And what about cut characters, does Master Hand Kid lose the toy or something?

lol, this isn't a serious post
