The cops 100% in the right. I have no idea why you guys think she should have been able to just sit there and ignore a lawful order. If you don't comply then this is what will happen and you deserve it. Wasn't even excessive, he pulled her out of the chair and arrested her. nothing more.

Spoken like a true authoritarian. Disobey??!! Little girl?!? *physical assault* *throw the book at them*

What 'violent manhandling'?

And she refused to comply, thats how this happens. Did you think you had the option when being arrested to just sit somewhere and refuse to comply and nothing would ever happen to you?

di-..... did you even see the video?!

You don't fucking throw someone and their desk.

It's exactly proportional, he removed her from the chair and arrested her. He didn't slam her around or do anything extra.

You obviously didn't watch the fucking video. Watch it. I fucking hate people who just want to be willfully ignorant about shit like this. We have a video as evidence and yet your brain decides to do jumping jacks. Probably gonna be my billionth ban but you are one dumb fuck.

You don't consider that "violent manhandling" by flipping over her desk with her in it and dragging her out of it? Wow dude, scary. Did you watch the video?

lol, Does the NFL have more stringent rules regarding violence than the police?

Both have an occupational requirement for a degree of violence but it seems that 300 lbs giants who are paid to hit each other are more tame than guys have that size who are paid to use that as a last resort.

Maybe I'm overthinking it.

I love how you make it sound like he just got her up and arrested her.

Never mind the fact that he put his arm around her neck, through her to the ground, dragged her and then grabbed her body and threw her.

Siding with the police state won't save you from it.

Did you see the video? Because i see him pick her out of the chair, hold her head clear, pull her from the chair and then put her on the ground. Hell, he was still holding her when he 'threw' her.

What other option do you have for dealing with someone who refuses to comply? Was he supposed to just stand there and ask again? threaten to call mom and dad? He did his job and he didn't overstep it.

How about the dragging her along the ground after she was essentially ripped from her desk? "What other option?"

You've got to be fucking kidding me.

Did you watch the video before you had your opinion or after you had made up your mind?

A grown ass man grabbing a teenage girl around the neck and flipping the whole desk she was sitting in isn't violent now?

I think your cape is on too tight.

You're clearly insane.

I watched the video before posting, unlike you.

I'm out.

If a cop were to unload into a group of unarmed teenagers then this country is even worse off than this video would lead you to believe and that's fucking frightening.

Maybe he wouldn't have. But these kids, at this young age, have already seen and heard enough shit that they are already disillusioned enough to know that it would certainly have been a possibility. And that's sad and frightening in its own right.

edit: and no cops on campus should ever be allowed to carry a weapon other than perhaps mace/pepper spray. Only people carrying weapons in that situation should be the actual police.

Agreed, but campus cops carrying guns is literally the response of the gun lobby against stuff like school shootings. Another depressing fact.

Joke post?

Clean your eyes out.

so if lets say you're walking down the street and a random unmarked van rolls up and two officers jump out and tell you to get in the back you just go? da fuq?

Why do you do you need to make up wildly exaggerated and different scenarios to make your point? She was asked to leave and wouldn't. She wasn't randomly assaulted.

WOW....just fucking wow

Give an option than buddy. How do you remove someone who refuses to comply?

"Give me an option" seems to be a common question from people who are willfully ignorant about actually using their brain to come up with other obvious practical solutions to a girl who isn't violently resisting or acting up.

Exactly. He even threw a pillow down for her to rest her weary head. It's right there in the video; you just have to pause it at the right moment and pretend it happened.

Maybe if I was a trained police officer I would be more informed on the ways to deal with someone not complying other than putting them in a goddamned chokehold. And then, after that, I probably wouldn't fucking hurl the 17 year old female high school student across the room. Hell, get another office in there to talk to her if it is that serious of a situation. (which this clearly was not)

Saying there is no "other option" to what this cop did is pure fucking insanity to me, and as such I'll be bowing out of this thread now.

Nice passive aggressive use of "buddy" by the way, we all know that's the best way to get a dig in during an argument.

You ask again. Wait ask again.
Call for support if you will need to use force.
Ask again. Suggestively push her.
Ask again. Wait.
Tell her it will take all day.
Ask again.

If your kid refused to leave the living room when on timeout would you do this?

Why not? You have the authority and power.

Proportionality. Appropriateness. She is a little girl in a classroom being indignant. Do you really think this is how a law enforcement official in our society should react to such a situation? And why the hell are police even in schools in the first place?

Land of the free. Right.

I don't know, it doesn't actually matter. You can be arrested when you're completely innocent but you should still comply for your own safety and because its the right thing to do.

Aha! Comply for your own safety.... just bow down or be beaten.

How about the threat of violence is not part of the equation?

Because no one believes you're being serious. Or they're hoping.
Be honest. The next time you get pulled over, if you just sit there and peacefully refuse to comply, what do you think will happen?

Do you think being peaceful grants immunity from arrest or detainment?
