I hope sooner rather than later kids in this type of situation realize that if they group together to fight that piece of shit "cop" off they would win 100 times out of 100.

Please don't create threads about news stories whose sole point is to horrify and appall people. This applies equally to stories about horrible events and to random, petty local tragedies of no greater significance. It makes people's experience of our community worse if they have to tiptoe in between threads about mundane atrocities just to participate in the OT. Real news stories of cultural import are fine, even when they're about something horrific happening, but if the right response to a story is mostly just "wow that's awful" it probably shouldn't get a thread.

I wouldn't even be so sure about that
I can think of this case where the officer was deemed to have acted "within policy"
I guess slamming highschool girls to the ground is standard procedure.
Apparently this guy, Ben Fields, has been kinda psycho for a while:

Dude's a nut
Seeing a cop doing this in a school I went too would be like Jason Voorhees doing the same thing. People would not be just sitting back they would be freaking, most would be getting the fuck out of there, some would be trying to fight.
if you look closely he is trying to pull her out of her seat, but she is bolded and refuses to. Don't be absurd, you don't tase until necessary. It's very difficult to deal with teenagers who remains passive aggressive towards you.
again the absurdity of these comments. Do we know what happened here previously? maybe he asked her five times to come with him and she refused. Do you just carry on? "okay fine, just sit there I'll wait." That's not how it works. School is an institution, not a psych office. They have a right to make you leave the classroom, especially if you behave wrongfully. They're not going to sit there and talk you out of the room.
that's easy to say on the internet. If you were in a school and a student started to talk shit to the teacher, I guarantee people would just sit in silence and watch too.
She was sitting there, and none of the other students nor the teacher were in danger. The coupe had a foot and a hundred pounds on her
Yeah, the lack of reaction by some of those kids was kinda unsettling

Oh yeah definitely.Yeah I think this is more on the "God our police policies are so fucked up" spectrum than the "God our police are so fucking racist" spectrum. Then again, why not both? This officer is clearly an overachiever, on the fast track to become captain some day.
The cops 100% in the right. I have no idea why you think she should have been able to just sit there and ignore a lawful order. If you don't comply then this is what will happen and you deserve it. Wasn't even excessive, he pulled her out of the chair and arrested her. nothing more.

No.This is sarcasm right.

The girl in the video was new to our class, and she was quiet like she never talked to anyone
Aaron Johnson ‏@Aaron___J
Just to be clear, before the video, she was sitting quietly at her desk. Did nothing to provoke the officer
People are ok with cops going from 0 to 1000 with no provocation?
No.
In what world do you live in where you can just not be arrested or detained by not complying? If you're in a car and refuse to get out you'll get pulled out. same thing here. She was asked to come peacefully and refused, what other option is there? Ask again and hope she changed her mind?
That...
That's not the issue here....
I'm sorry, but that's a horrible idea. If they tried something like that against an American cop, he would probably start shooting people left and right.
Thats exactly the issue here. He told her to come peacefully, she didnt. He then removed her from the chair and arrested her. Thats how this is supposed to go.

Yes.Soooo if you're just minding your own business and a cop tries to arrest you, you simply comply?
Why not drag her away in a fashion that doesn't involve the danger of seriously injuring her?No.

What about the classic police arm lock?

she was, but it was also implied that she disturbed the class. If she is not willingly leaving the room by the goodwill of the teacher, then the campus officer has to deal with it. In many cases, by dragging said student out.
I don't know how you can tell there was no provocation from a 15 second video. What the cop did was excessive and not graceful, but that situation was created by the girl. Did she think they brought a cop into the classroom to ask nicely for her to leave? If she was my daughter I wouldn't have minded what he did, unless she had a mental disorder where she didn't realize what was happening fully.

What 'violent manhandling'?Also, she did absolutely nothing to constitute such violent manhandling.
No.
