The gaming industry is in the midst of a fantastic time when not only are consoles thriving in a growing market, but so are PCs. The Open Gaming Alliance (OGA) recently worked with the market research company DFC Intelligence to forecast important shifts in the PC gaming industry looking forward.
In a press announcement sent to Examiner.com today, the OGA believes core gamers are expected to continue to "drive record growth for PC games" in the coming years.
In the graphic above, you can see the dominant performance of PC gaming over the past half dozen years or so. Console is still strong with overall growth being clear since 2012. Despite what reports may suggest, the next few years should continue to show unprecedented growth from consoles due to the popularity of the PS4, Xbox One and Wii U.
DFC provided some internal perspective on the apparent growth in the PC markets. DFC Analyst David Cole talked about PC's growth and some of the major driving factors behind it. "Much of the growth is driven by pure demographics," Cole said. "We continue to identify a core group of consumers for whom playing on the PC is a major pastime.
