CoroCoro Reveals Rockruff Evolution and New Ultra Beasts

I really like Lugarugan day form and it seems fitting that I am using him on my Sun team, I wonder his typing is.

The two new Ultra Beast look good and I can't wait to see how they will play in the game.

As for the Animé, it looks like I am gonna pass on it as I am not interested in Ash going to school and it just feel like that the series trying to copy Yo-Kai Watch.

I really hope that the no gym thing is just an Alolan thing and that they are back in gen 8.

Serena is gone isn't she...? :<

Good riddance to her. Serena was so boring and her one sided crush on Ash was never going to amount to anything so it was annoying seeing the writer push hard on that.

Lusamine being an Ultra Beast probably means she's not actually the true big boss of Aether Foundation, but more likely being controlled by someone.

I hope not as I really want Lusamine to be the true villain, we still yet to have a female villain .

It's about to pass XY as the most

Currently there's 43 Alola Pokémon, I didn't include Alola form, we just need 30 more and it will pass Kalos pitiful low Pokémon count.

So, will this just be an XYZ thing?

ash_greninja__large.jpg

Nope, Ash Greninja is in Pokemon Shuffle, Picross and the TCG, it will probably be in the mainline games in some way.

Definitely seems so. I'm really curious to hear what the story behind these is

Do we know if Rockruff's evolution changes appearance depending on the time of day or just whether it's day or night when it evolves?
I think this how it's going to be:
UB1/assistant hate Pokemon battling, but she is part of this alien family, both UB2 want to rule or control the earth in their own way, they are secretly control team skull.
and they are searching for UB1 to complete each of the UB2 powers, eventually one of the UB1 will capture UB1 and the opposite UB2 will help you to defeat the super powered UB2(syncro evolve).
After that you will learn those aliens comes from space to earth to find their lost relative(UB1) to reunite and finds out why they are different and the meaning of life or something bullcrap like that.

I hope they make new Eevee evolutions. One evolves durinng the day and another evolves at night. They can call them... Sunneon and Lumineon. Nice, that would rule.

That already exists. They're called Espeon and Umbreon.

There's also already a fish Pokemon named Lumineon

That was the whole joke. :(

Ignoring the crush thing, I'd say that Serena has the strongest character development over the first half of the series or so. Really no reason to keep her around though, and they've already written in a reason for her to leave.

I'm actually looking forward to the new anime series, it actually looks like it could be fun, instead of the 'no fun allowed' XY anime which had the most boring and dull Ash ever.

The school setting means there will be plenty of slice of life episodes, I can't fucking wait.

So Pokemon + Yo-kai Watch anime? I guess that's one way to get those ratings up.

The Yokai Watch anime is actually pretty good (and fun), so I'm ok with this.

I really like those two Rockruff evos. I'd really be interested if the typings on them were Normal/Rock and Normal/Dark respectively. Rock/Dark for the werewolf would also be fine. I'd be a little disappointed if the evos were just mono Rock and mono Dark.

I'm still unsure how I feel about the Ultra Beasts. This new Pokemon game is taking some risks with the tried and true formula of the prior gens, and I really respect it.

I like it. The artstyle looks like a good gag show for kids. It would be a good breather from Ash taking another L. Especially after the hype of XYZ.

What do we think of the 'Expansion' name for one of the UB02? 'Beauty' seems obvious and as many have said she appears to link easily to the blonde-hair-blue-eyes-Aether-girl, but Expansion is less clear.

I reckon Expansion stems from Growth - Could Expansion grow from a smaller, more blonde-hair-blue-eyes-Skull-dude looking Ultra Beast, or could it be linked to the idea that that character will 'grow', maybe in turning from a bad guy into a good guy?

But can Ash defeat his most unchallenging test yet - a 10 year old's end of year exam?

(spoilers - still no)

Rockruff's evos look pretty good, but I'm a little disappointed by the two new Ultra Beasts - there's no unifying style between the three, and they're too humanoid, especially in the faces. I was hoping they'd all be weird abstract alien things like the first.

What's the little bit with the Go Screenshot and several Alolan forms all about?

Close, but I think it will go like this:

The Aether Foundation is trying to synthetize human/Pokémon hybrids, aka Ultra Beasts, because they believe them to be a higher form of life. Or the next step in evolution. Ultra Beasts come from another plane of existence and the Aether Foundation, originally good guys, will be revealed as the true villains because they will pursue their research at any cost.

The player character will travel to the islands of Alola and organize a Pokémon league, because this is really the kind of thing a child has time for. Team Skull will show up every now and then to kick sand in your potato salad, but really they're just edgy teens led by some edge has-been single dad who is trying to be cooler than he really is. In other words, these guys are actually okay and not cruel to their Pokémon and don't want to kill the world. They just think Pretty Odd was a bad album and Panic at the Disco sucks now and they have to make their own way because there will never be another album as good as A Fever You Can't Sweat Out.

Anyway, along the way the protagonist will cross paths with mysterious Ultra Beasts and it will be revealed that the professors assistant, Hatgirl, is actually UB01. If you play as the boy trainer, she will meekly suggest some feelings for you. If you play girl trainer, nothing happens.

The final battle, instead of the Elite Four, will be against the high ranking members of the Aether Foundation. They will have powerful Pokémon and you will also have to fight them in their Ultra Beast forms. Except for UB01 because she doesn't want to collapse the barrier between dimensions because the main character showed her about kindness.

Team Skull will help you take down Team Aether and realize they need to put their anger to better use and start a rock band. The game ends at a concert.

But what about the legendaries?

Alolan folklore talks of two legendaries, one who is the sun and another who is the moon, and they constantly battle over the sky. The plot doesn't revolve around them this time. You'll hear stories and legends and references about them as you progress and will get closer and closer to catching them as the game goes on. Eventually, you do. You become either Nightman or Dayman and poise yourself at the champion of the Pokémon league.

But heavy is the head that wears the crown. You're just a kid, but you've seen some wild stuff, and you find being the champion too taxing. You pass on running the Pokémon League and just enjoy a day at the beach. The end.

Also are they really pulling an other Digimon with these Ultra Beasts? People evolving into Pokemon?

I really don't think the Ultra Beasts are Pokemon though. And if the 3 blonds really are these Ultra Beasts, they probably were never humans to begin with, just some beings from another dimension, or something, that came to the Alola region and took on a human form.

Yokai Watch anime is terrible, I'm stuck in hospital atm and it plays on TV during the day, that fucking song during the credits is the worst song on any TV show ever.

I like both Rockruff Evos. We thinking Rock/Normal and Rock/Dark? We might find out for sure later this week when we get the trailer for this stuff no doubt. These Ultra Beasts are pretty interesting too, are they Pokemon? We see UB02-Expansion battling Tapukoko in the scans so I wonder if they act and such just like Pokemon or are controlled by their owners (which is why they look so much like them) who knows?

Pretty hyped to see what Type: Null has hidden away, maybe it sheds the helmet and becomes stupidly awesome?

but GX was garbage and it took forever to get good :(

And Yokai Watch anime is garbage, there are better anime with a multi-shorts format, like Cocotama.

Fuck this "fun" descriptor like it's some magical thing

They had better call it "red greninja" or UB-05 or ANYTHING but "Ash greninja". Don't acknowledge that loser in canon.

Now I want to see it just for the salt.

Dunno why you had to shoehorn the pokemon league in there.

I dont know where that idea comes from about building a Pokémon league

A combination of rumors and leaks leaks proclaiming as such and the prerelease marketing material being devoid of gyms, plus the emphasis on completing the "Island Challenge" instead of the gyms and Pokémon League.

Right or wrong, it's also widely reported speculation. Lots of news outlets weighed on it after the first couple of trailers.

Also my post was pretty tongue-in-cheek. I don't actually think Team Skull is going to start a rock band.

I'm in for the anime because of Bewear x Team Rocket, but Ash really just needs to be better. I would actually classify him as insufferable for a lot of XYZ.

He doesn't have to win everything. Actually, I love when Ash loses battles as long as it makes fuckin sense. Some people would say "oh well incorporating game mechanics in the show wouldn't work" and frankly I think that's bull. Obviously show battles have to be flashy and the game rules don't translate 100% to the show format, but occasionally they'll do something and I'll go "oh wow that's actually what would happen." Stat drops, abilities, hazards, etc. There's so much there to work with for writing action sequences, and you only need to loosely adapt it come onnnnnn.

None of the dumb "oh Pikachu kick up dirt to block the move" shit does anything for me anymore. Oh, also, the shit where any trainer just says "quick dodge it." It's like an action sequence deus ex machina. And it's okay for Ash to, like, fucking use type advantages. It's better than him sending out Pokemon that are weak to his opponent with no friccin benefit.

I guess just make the battles less shallow. Don't get me wrong, I like plain old Pokemon attacking each other generically, but please inject some variety into it, and borrow game elements much more often. And Ash just needs to have some meaningful fuckin development. I know he's an old character at this point but he can't just be "happy-go-lucky-friendship-is-the-answer-golly-gee" all the time sheesh. In English he's obnoxious, in Japanese he's just plain and kind of boring.

An honest to god wolf. Not a Pokemon that maybe could be a wolf, but is generic enough to not really be (Suicune, Manectric), but an actual wolf. It took 20 years.

And a werewolf. Which isn't as cool as a wolf, which is really surprising. I actually don't like that design that much, a bit too skinny.

I also think the leaked starter evos are the "night" versions. They all work as night variants.

oh god what is that

did you just call XY battles generic and lacking in variety
