Crysis 2 PS3 Demo Releasing Today

So much for all the hyperbole claiming the ps3 version is terrible in comparison to the 360 counterpart.
This one screen ends the discussion for you yes.
I'll just wait till the final game comes out to pass judgement.

But it's a comparison of a demo.

It may be a matter of time regarding our grievances being confirmed, but until a comparison as been made with the retail product, I'm reserving my judgement.

Seems a little premature to be castigating Crytek for the quality of the final product when none of us have played it just yet.
What's worrisome to me is that people have been mentioning that they heard this demo is the same as retail code. If true then that's a big fail on Crytek's part. Again, only way to be 100% sure is the inevitable Digital Foundry/Lens of Truth face offs.

That picture doesn't show you frame rate issues, that is probably the most important difference
Yep, the game compares favorably in those stills. But in motion it's another story. I can't wrap my head around some people not having a problem with that framerate in the demo. To me it really affected the gameplay. It's sub 30fps constantly.

Anyone else having problems with the demo?

On the XMB I have a Nat Type 1 wired connection (direct)

But in-game my nat type is moderate, takes 15 minutes to find a server, then sticks me in a lobby by myself

ffs

To come away from graphics comparisons for a moment, it seems that stuff like the Proximity Detector has been nerfed since the 360 demo. You seem to have to be closer for it to pick anything up, and the sound is less easily picked up. I think invisibility drains energy more quickly as well.

Wow this game sucks so bad. Between the messy enviroments, gloom and bloom and the horrible motion blur, I should be able to play efficiently?

I really should try CoD one of these days.

Afaik that's the case for everyone. Xbox, PC, PS3. Seems like a redundant text string to me.

Heh.

Been playing for an hour now and.......just pre-ordered the limited edition from game.

Great gunplay, visuals are nice, party system is good, perk system is some of the best in gaming.

Can't wait til Friday (25th)

I got into a game no problem on the first try. Same issues with the PS3 that I had with 360 beta. Really inconsistent hit detection, especially using the melee. I'd have to switch back and forth but in addition to those issues I swear the framerate is worse. Controls seemed to be pretty responsive even when the framerate was dropping, but this one could use some better netcode.

Lttp? Game Reactor's (messily translated) review confirms the PS3 resolution to be 1024x720.

http://www.gamereactor.se/recensioner/26491/Crysis+2/

They say PC DX9 >>> 360 > PS3.
So the ps3 version is running at 1024X720. I don't think posting this info in two different crysis 2 threads is going to be enough to get people's attention.

You should probably make a new comparison thread so more people can see how lousy a port the ps3 version really is and keep updating it so it stays on the first page.

I'm having the same issue. It makes me not want to play the game at all :(

But that's like comparing 2 types of shit, the answer you will always get is that they're both shit, just ones slightly shittier than the other.

I think he only does his job if he makes a full new thread. lol.

I don't see what's wrong with reposting it in this thread. Cynics probably wouldn't bother with the review thread for a while since the only reviews out now are usually pr cleared fluff.

You sound kind of upset. I updated the review thread with all of the pertinent information mentioned in the review, and I updated this comparison thread with just the info pertinent to the PS3 version. Since some people won't bother to read both (I certainly didn't bother to read through this entire thread), I felt it would helpful to post it in both.

You guys should actually read the review, the game sounds ace, even if it is more like Warhead than vanilla Crysis. I don't think 100 pixels of horizontal resolution are going to ruin the experience, and the reviewer states as much.

Edit: looking back, it looks like the pixel counters got in page 4.

Upset in what way? Please enlighten me. Why post in two different threads about the ps3 version's resolution, one in a review thread no less, when making a brand new comparison thread would've gotten the job done and save other crysis 2 threads(including upcoming official thread) from needless 360 vs ps3 gfx talks.

Well, that's being harsh..just because both versions are sub-hd doesn't mean they are shit.

Why are people still surprised that both console versions look like shit.
I guess they were expecting miracles from Crytek for some reason. I think it's the best thing they could do for being their first multiplatform game when they come from a PC background. It's a miracle they even got the engine to run on consoles. I'm dissapointed with the lack of customization (so far) for graphics on the pc, but at least they used the consoles so that the game would be better optimized over the previous Crysis on the pc.

Yeah..;< Well, at least there's witcher 2.

Ok, ok, I was commenting on the link that states PS3s resolution, nothing more, nothing less.

Both the 360 and PS3 versions have shitty resolutions.

I think the game is great fun :)

Since when is Gamereactor Sweden an authority on pixel counting? Aren't they just using the info from MazingerDude who posted in the "First PS3 footage" thread here?

They tweeted earlier in the day that they're looking into the issue with the ps3.

But it has been the same for the 360 and pc when the demo had come out.

was finally able to connect to a match. very blurry eh? it doesn't help matters that the game scales horizontally to 1080i by default, this makes it even blurrier looking. gonna try again but without 1080i forced .... playing this side by side w/ 360 version is no contest. 360 version by a mile.

seems like there is some kind of variable framerate thing going on here too ... like it shoots above 30 at times and then back down below ..weird. also the sound seems better on ps3

Why is it taking them this long to fix this shit...I haven't played a single game yet because I can't connect for shit. Wasn't this tested in-house to at least make sure ppl can connect and start a game?? Why even release a demo in this state?

This seems to be the worst net code.

And now you see what all the commotion was about. This isn't a case where it looks better in motion.

Anyway redownloaded it due to boredom (and technical/performance issues aside it isn't too bad). Still open. Still NAT1 direct to modem. Can't connect now. Nice.

K so I experienced some really REALLY bad slow down when I called in a orbital strike maybe 25 ft away from me, like single digit frames. Then in the same game for whatever reason I don't know, my screen get's all blurry, hud is still good, but all geometry is extremely blurred, don't know what triggered it, it just popped in, I had to die in order for it to go away.

This demo doesn't paint a very good picture of the final product I think, so I'm kind of glad I canceled my Amazon preorder.

why the hell doesn't the ps3 version have proper cloak effects? LOLLLL

or is this what the final cloak effect looks like in the retail game?
