it truly was a horrifying post

kinda like when they ported far cry to the original xbox
Instincts was a better game than the original, even if not better looking.

its noticeably brighter and looks more constrained
no it doesn't. that's assualt just the same as i played it on PC, albeit with less grass and bushes.

Not really. They put you in control of a VTOL and you basically fly around shooting things. It was easily the weakest level in the game. That said, I don't really like the idea of cutting content, but if they're going to pull a level that was the one to get rid of. It was decidedly un-Crysis.

I think it may be for technical reasons...aside from the last level this was easily the most demanding level in the game. I dont see why people had a problem with it...it looked spectacular, was reletively short, and added a bit of variation

This level was so bad and the vtol was not fun at all to control. After the first playthrough I just gave up on doing the objectives and just fly straight through the level without stopping to defend anyone.

Console gamers arent missing out on anything by having this level cut out.

Yup, told my friend that who has never played the original, but plans on getting it for PS3.

Also ok with cutting ascension. that level was spectacularly bad. I wounder if they will replace it with something or just have a cutscene of your dude flying the aircraft?
What? I thought this was an awesome level. Navigating an aircraft and shooting down hostiles while seeing the whole island from above was a welcome change from the gameplay. It wasn't on rails either, they actually let you fly around however you wish. What's not to like?

how does it look more constrained? Levels are the same.

What annoyed me about it was that there seemed to be no way to repair the vtol, and that you were stuck in the vtol for the whole level. even the tank level let you do the whole thing on foot if you wanted.

It just felt unlike crysis making me pilot a vehicle with no other option.

It is a shame that it isn't in there, but I think it's a small loss.

Oh Kotaku...

Well, it's a PC exclusive no longer. Crytek and EA have announced a coming downloadable version of Crysis for Xbox 360 and PS3, which will use the updated CryEngine 3 that powered this year's Crysis 2. Earlier this week I had a chance to play it on Xbox 360, and I was so impressed that one of my first questions was, somewhat unbelievably: "Is this being ported to PC?"

Actually, I wouldn't say no to the optimized cryengine3 version of Crysis1.

Hi res textured version though...I played Crysis 2 with high res textures and Dx11 and there were still some low res stuff...most people were saying the pc version had lower res textures compared to the original prior to the texture pack being released

No they don't look as sharp, but he addressed that in his post.

From what I'm seeing the overall level of detail is lower and some effects have been simplified, but there's been a couple of improvements to the lighting. Looks pretty good and framerate seems to be fine too.

It's actually quite impressive that this is running on 2005 hardware with only 512 megs of RAM. I can't even imagine what they will be able to pull off on next gen systems.

I'm worried about the PS3 version though (launching in a couple of weeks and no footage).
Feels like the last time with Crysis 2, always being shown on 360. In the end they were similar framerate-wise. But PS3 version was blurrier because of the resolution drop. I'd love to see some PS3 footage also.

He said "So we decided to take out ascension and one of the later levels". Two levels then it sounds. Ascension sucked but I wonder what the other level is.

The alien ship, I'm sure.

This is why i love consoles.

Instead of me spending money on new hardware. Developers actually utilise the hardware, and games look better as times pass.
A new console at launch is more expensive than upgrading hardware. And with consoles you have to upgrade to be able to play new games. PCs scale. You can play new games on old hardware and old games on new hardware, with an increase to visuals and performance.

The scaling only goes so far and top of the line is still expensive. But yeah, then you get the very best.

That would be a shame as it is one of the best levels in the game. The lighting and atmosphere in that level are just fantastic and it also provides the backdrop to how the aliens work and gives you a behind the scenes look at how they are coming out of hibernation and organizing for the assault.

I wonder if it is because of technical difficulties or maybe because it is too difficult to control in the zero-g environments.

Hard to play Crysis in my living room. Crysis 2 was awesome with the new suit controls.

You actually can sort of: http://qsf5.com/2010/08/05/making-crysis-couch-friendly/
I used the configuration file on that site as it is and while it's not perfect (It still is toggle ADS and you have to hold crouch), you can use all of the suit shortcuts (down twice on the d-pad for Maximum Armor) and with right stick button YOU. CAN. PRONE. NOW.

it's a bitch to navigate though, also linear + combat is shit.

Off course not.... How many console games run at 940x520.

There are a couple, if you consult the list on Beyond3D lol. This isn't one of them, though. These shots are just downsampled and photoshopped.

The list has a couple of games like battle LA that run at 960x720 but nothing runs at 940x520.

The guy presenting game is a mumbling arse, that's for sure. Hard to make out most of what he's saying, accent notwithstanding.

I second that the VTOL level was shit, so many reloaded checkpoints due to terrible lumbering oxen controls.

The latest and greatest PC graphics cards, and anything else needed to upgrade is way more expensive than the latest and greatest console.

Hell, the best mid-range card is more expensive than any console.

According to Kotaku the game runs flawlessly on console:

The entire time I played, Crysis ran beautifully, with nary a hitch or a framerate dip. Even on my 2011 gaming PC, Crysis hits some framerate issues when I run it at ultra-spec. But I saw no slowdown as I fought my way through guard posts, across bridges, over beaches and through the jungle. All of the open, emergent fun of Crysis is here, and it's more playable than ever.

http://kotaku.com/5843096/crysis-doesnt-just-run-on-consoles-it-soars

I find that a bit hard to believe since the gamespot video showed otherwise, and peoples definition of a smooth framerate seems to vary greatly.
