Crytek: TimeSplitters 4 fan interest "not high enough yet"

I'll gladly pay sixty dollars for a new Timesplitter, but I'm just not interested in jumping through hoops and liking crap on facebook.

I was under the assumption that I wanted another timesplitters but I guess deep down my demand isn't high enough because I haven't joined the facebook group as the only way to measure my desire for another entry!

Put out TS2 HD. If it sells well, make TS4. If not, we still have a current version of a fantastic FPS. Win win.
This SO much. I felt TS2 is the closest we've got to a GoldenEye/Perfect Dark sequel, which are still 2 of my favorite FPS games. I loved the crazy multi player and the objective based single player.

ITT: people in denial

Regardless of the actual demand for the game, these are the two most asinine statements I have read in a while:

Interest in a revival of the TimeSplitters series is "not high enough yet"
It's an old franchise with no new content. It will only decrease as time goes on.

"I tested through my official blog to see how big the TimeSplitters community is, "
Yes, this a brilliant way to conduct market research.

I'd put in for a kickstarter for this; consider it a pre order. What the fuck do they want from the fans? This is the only FPS I've ever loved. Ugh..

lol, I actually agree with you

except the possibility of the interest rising if they show some in-engine shots or do some promotion.

Crytek, please shut up. You use FACEBOOK to do market research? Wow

This might be my most wanted sequel (over Kotor 3 and other such like) and the IP is controlled by these fools.

Oh yeah Crtyek, I am sure the Homefront 2 facebook page as millions of likes......

Let me guess, Crytek think that literally the only people that would buy TS4 are those who pressed the Like button on Facebook or just happen to follow his blog (which I had no clue even existed)?

The sad thing is that working in retail I've spoken to a lot of customers that have mentioned that they loved TimeSplitters, heck I even overheard one the other day saying that it was the only shooter they play. They are not the sort of people whose voices will ever make it to the puppet master at Crytek, but they do exist and are part of the potential market.

To be honest I don't think Crytek has any intentions of creating another TimeSplitters, if they did they'd do some proper market research or test the water with HD remakes rather than rely on a fucking Facebook page made by fans. Nobody wants Homefront 2 and yet that garbage is having multiple millions poured into it.

Also, I wasn't even aware their was a Facebook page. Crytek definitely didn't let people know about it enough.
The admin has a pretty annoying way to make updates. I had enough by the time he started complaining publicly when people didn't care to vote TimeSplitters to Ouya's delusional AAA wish list.

LIEK TIMESPOTTERS IF U CRY EVRYTIME

That about sums up my feelings on using FB to gauge fan interest. I guess Zynga must be selling like hotcakes and Draw Something is raking in billions because FB is the meter for success in all mediums.

Sounds like a message of the unpopularity of Cevat Yerli rather than of TimeSplitters to me. I'm on GAF every day and I've never heard of any public solicitation of TimeSplitters interest.

...Not that I disagree necessarily with the inevitable conclusion that TimeSplitters is not a mega-franchise (I bought two games in the series, but mostly for the multiplayer and I never finished either.) It'd be a mistake to look at all the fansite activity around TS and expect it to be huge, better to look at it as a boutique title that could be something if approached right. (My feeling is a multiplayer online product ala THPS HD, either old stages in HD or new, on a DLC or even FTP model.) It's a vocal minority that is demanding this franchise again as loud as they can, but it's also a pretty big majority who are aren't in that super-vocal crowd but who probably would be like, "Oh, OK, I'll buy that."

Indeed. I really liked the idea of an HD remake/update of TS2 fixing the bugs and adding online support. It can be a low cost, low risk way to gauge if it's worth continuing onward.

I don't want a TS game made by Crytek. Leave the series be.

I don't think I would want a fourth game either at this point. I would, however, be interested in an updated re-release of the older games.

ITT: people in denial

Absolutely true, I followed the Facebook petition/survey for over two months to sadly discover that really no one cared enough to vote. So if people here are actually blaming Crytek they are for a surprise.

And about Facebook, it maybe was not the ideal way, but it was only a tool to measure, the whole thing was put in a bunch of outlets like Kotaku, even Gaf had a thread about it. They could just have made a webpage for it and the results would not be much different.

Saw the topic and came in here to joke about them not having enough facebook likes, well it looks like I don't have to.

The demand will never be high enough. Timesplitters 2 & 3 were fun games but internet fandom aside, they have no reach where it counts: The mass market.

Not to mention I'm sure most clamoring for a TS4 would spend more time complaining about it "not being the same" than expressing thanks and excitement, if it were to be developed.

Well, the latter would be because of the former, because we know they will just ape Call of Duty. Nearly every other FPS is aping Call of Duty. Why have originality when you can ape a successful formula? It's crap like that that leads to Final Fantasy being the only JRPG that will sell and Mario and Sonic being the last two remaining platform games still getting regular releases.

Then don't make it and stop bringing it up. Stringing everyone along with Facebook pages and other feelers is not going to increase interest in something that doesn't exist. Its been like 8 years since the last game, of course interest is going to be low. Put out an HD collection or never mention it again.

Holy shit. Not high enough yet? I'm pretty sure it's never going to be high (enough to warrant an actual game with current budgets), but exactly how do gauge shit like this? Do I have to start a Occupy movement, make it to national news, or like organize a sit in campaign?

Sometimes, things like this is batshit insane to me.

Timesplitters would be perfect for F2P.

Just do it Crytek. WTF else are you going do for your F2P interests?

I never understood the anger associated with not having a sequel for this. I remember playing the game and loving it, but I don't think its necessarily a game that would hold up today. I mean, its a cartoony shooter that happened to have good shooting mechanics. At this point, 5-10 years later, what specifically do people want from this game? I'd much prefer crazy manuverability/suit powers that are in Crysis.

I don't care if it is a game I am anticipating so much that I plan on burning all of my vacation on launch day to play it for a month straight, I am not fucking liking any god damn game on facebook.

The anger stems from them bringing it up over and over while flaunting it as if it was ever some kind of possibility.

Game doesn't get released. Blame the fans.
Game gets released and doesn't sell what they expect. Blame the fans.

who seriously wants crysis 2/3 over timesplitters 4? i don't know anyone who cares about crysis.

i also don't understand how interest in the game is supposed to rise without a timesplitters game being announced..

I got rid of my Facebook accounts (did I mention I had two? many people I know have multiple accounts) a while ago, and have no interest whatsoever in making another.

I do, however, have an interest in Timesplitters 4. Using Facebook as a metric to determine whether or not Timesplitters 4 should be made is as useful as asking Democrats who the next Republican Presidential nominee should be.

Well, some of us care about Crysis quite a bit. Those of us who did, however, didn't want Crysis 2/3. We wanted more Crysis/Warhead.

More of the same. We're drowning in gritty military shooters, if you want to play a crazy, colourful shooter and you don't like TF2 you've got absolutely nothing.
