CVG sources: Durango reveal in early April

April sounds perfect - especially if they do actually launch in September/October.

By April a lot of the PS4 hype will have died down slightly.

MS can reveal their console in April, then maintain momentum by having a massive blow out at E3 a few months later, then ride that momentum just a short few months until they actually launch.

Should def be easier for them to maintain momentum/hype with that plan.

What Sony showed was not chopped liver. The ability to play a game while you're downloading it, Vita cross play with the PS4, tablet integration, the share button, suspend/resume sleep mode, Gaikai, etc. A vast majority of the apps you'll see on Live will also be on PSN.

I'm just pointing out that ever since Microsodt entered the console race, they've been pushing software. They've had a unified service since the first Xbox. It connects to all there services. Skype, Skydrive, PC, Windows Phone/Smart Phones, etc. Sine 360 they've introduced the Guide Button while playing a game, cross game chat, cross game invites, Party Chat, active downloads in a game, etc.

Microsoft is a software company, and if the the new Xbox does not step it up in features compared to Sony, that'd be dissapointing IMO.

Sony def. showed off a lot of impressive things too. Remote play on the Vita one of them. Very cool. As for PS3 BC through the cloud, that's dissapointing.

I look forward to it. Microsoft certainly have a lot to live up for gamers. My concern is they might orient the reveal towards a more mainstream press and not focus on games/gamers are much until E3.

They will be looking to make more of a splash in the mainstream than Sony managed.

It's enough time for people to dissect the Sony presentation to the point of boredom. Close enough to E3 to keep the hype going.

And for MS to take in and digest all that feedback about the PS4 from the game media, mainstream news and gamers on forums to crunch it all down so they address any weakness.

I really don't know. I'm not really able to translate the tech specs for camera/gesture/voice so I haven't really looked at them in all honesty.

The finger tracking is extremely disappointing if true.

Where I am coming from is that I am excited to see what they can do when building the device and interface from the ground-up with Kinect in mind.

- From my perspective the Kinect and the Durango OS need to be a marriage (hopefully made in heaven). I am really looking for the voice recognition software to be EXTREMELY enhanced and the range of actions to also be extremely enhanced as well.

- I want the OS/dashboard to work with the Kinect in a quicker more fluid manner.

- I need the body recognition to work better too (i.e. it needs to work 100% seamlessly while I am sitting)

- I want to have the sensation of tablet smooth scrolling available with the use of my hands

Basically the Kinect needs to be so much better than the controller that I choose to use it

So mush this right here.

The only way Kinect will be common place is if it works better than a controller and if you can walk into your games room and not even pick up a controller and use voice and body tracking to get to what you want fast, especially for entertainment other than games.

Oh yeah, their focus will be on different things, obviously. The interface is always a big deal in Microsoft products, so I'm sure they'll lead with that.

'How we interact with the device' was a pretty huge focus during Sony's conference. A lot of time spent talking about services around play as much as the games themselves.

Sony talked more than they showed here. MS might demonstrate more live than Sony did.

I'm guessing the press is going to love the MS event by comparison to Sony's, mainly because it will be geared toward them. What I mean is that it won't be a hardcore gamer type event like Sony's, it'll cover media services and music and all that stuff, since they'll be pushing it as a media hub device rather than a core gamers device. Obviously it will be an great for core gamer's as well (esp. if XBLA goes free), but 'the press' doesn't quite care about sitting through two hours of that alone.

The general press apparently didn't like Sony's direction that much, so i guess they'll like Microsoft's more, being more media focused etc etc (going by the rumors).

No, June 11-13.

Thank god nobody cares about the regular press. OMG SONY DONE ANNOUNCED A CONSOLE FOR GAMES NOT MEDIA OMG DIS BOX SUCKS

Oh my word, 'lolgamesjournalism' at it's best'

"A source says" A Sony one at that. Saying they caught them off guard.

The whole thing just reads like made up BS the daily mail would fling together. These companies plan this stuff well in advance and I don't see how MS wouldn't anticipate Sony showing the PS4 before E3 or why it even matters and actually catch them off guard. Sony didn't do anything nobody including Microsoft didn't expect.

Its pretty obvious they weren't going to announce until after gears came out. They don't want to hurt sales of their popular franchise. Sony should take notes...

For how long has the xbox.com site looked like this..?

http://www.xbox.com/en-WW/

what does that site say about xbox..? or do they have another site I´m not aware of.?

Sign in to your account.

You'll be able too see new game releases, sales for Xbox and XBLA titles, your friends, demos, and queue up things to download right when you turn on your Xbox.

What does this say about Xbox? That they have a unified service. I can click to download this and poof! It's downloading on my Xbox.

ohh.. is there another Microsoft site that tells me about the products then..? (that was my original question)

I think Sony knocked it out of the park so the pressure is really high on MS. I hope they'll focus more on games than "social media connectivity kinect everywhere"... But my hopes are not high. :P

No!
They must focus on Kinect and Facebook connectivity in order to win next gen.

Products for sale? Or just an overview? I think the Microsoft store sells Xboxs, Kinects, etc. so they may have what your searching for.

I'm on my mobile right now so I can't check, but usually the Xbox site has ads up about Kinect and the 360.

Oh shit I forgot that Gears of War: Judgement comes out on March 19th. So to me I'm guessing we could see an announcement for the event as early as a week from that game's launch. Microsoft seems pretty savvy about not having any overlap in product announcements and releases so I think it's pretty safe to say we won't see anything before the 19th.

I pick that TAB.. and get a new site. I press XBOX, and end up on that strange http://www.xbox.com/en-WW/ site again.. ???

Something is gummed up on your end. I click on that tab and it drops down a list of Micorosft products. (I'm using Chrome on Linux.)

First, I'm very glad Sony went first. Kaz gifs and avatars were glorious.
Second, although I'm pumped like Hell for 720, let's not bullshit ourselves :
Windows 8 is solid but not the next big thing.
Windows Phone 8 is not going places.
Xbox as a service is not the second coming of media.
Surface is great fucking looking but neither versions offer the best in class experiences
720 won't be as powerfull as PS4

720 will be at best a mixed bag. If MS laucnhes with a shit town of highly budgeted new IPs that smoke Infamous and Killzone, it will definitely come at the price of inferior (if only) hardware and a shit ton of constrains (always on, no resale, Kinect 2 still not on par with its vision, need for several W8 products to get the all she-bang).

But anyways, i'll be glad. time to seriously consider where the money will go. it's day for next-gen anyway, but won't bother with two consoles until exclusives are just too hard to pass.

Sony having gone so early May well have caught Microsoft off guard. Everyone is talking about Sony and Playstation, wondering when they will get more information on it. When Microsoft reveals/announces their next platform in two months, Sony is in a position where they can just time their future announcements in a strategical manner in which they will counter announcements from Microsoft by rekindling that PS4 mystery that they've built over the past few months. I think Microsoft was expecting to slowly tease the new xbox leading up to E3 but now that Sony has come out well before that event, Microsoft doesn't have a choice to attempt to calm the playstation "fever" down.

I believe we will get strategic teases/announcements from Sony, now up until e3/TGS etc.

I am glad you are not working for a real PR team.

Good point gofreak. I know you are a big Sony fan but you also speak a lot of the truth even if it is a bit slanted :P. I think what Sony showed was a lot of promise but at the same time it definitely wasn't ready for primetime. Microsoft being a software company and the fact that they probably have been building this device longer than Sony has they will have much more from an OS standpoint ready to show off.

huh odd. We're getting very different xbox.com websites. Possibly due to location. Mine is plastered with CoD and Gears stuff.

The WW site you posted looks incomplete.

Try the US site: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/

wauw... now I suddenly see them advertising.. that is a totally different site. damn..

I´m probably getting that strange site because my country isn´t supported by them..

For years I have only seen that site I linked to.. lol..

I'm sure they'll say "8 gigs" once or twice, but they won't go any deeper, nor should they. Most people just don't give a fuck about the differences between RAM types, or they just don't have a clue about them. Hell, Sony only referred to it as "high speed."

So because a few people don't understand technology these technology companies should be secretive. I would prefer as much transparency as possible. I want to know the basic specifications of what I am buying. Perhaps some fake techno hipster douche bag can get Siri to point them in the right direction of what GDDR5 is and they can educate themselves on what it its...BAM they learned something. Everyone walks around with the ability to educate themselves on any subject with a few swipes of a finger but lets throw birds at a building to knock it down with that device instead.

Wasn't the 360 revealed on mtv for like 5 mins?

I'm interested in new ips and games, but if its just tech demos again there's no point in watching since ps3 has the upper hand.

Also a lot closer to e3 than this conference was, how much can they show without their e3 show being a dud?

The company Eventcore (formerly ustechs) just registered the Domain xboxevent.com yesterday - http://www.whois.com/whois/xboxevent.com

Eventcore plans and executes large events and meetings like 2013 AT&T developer summit (http://www.whois.com/whois/2013devsummit.com) and they only acquire domains for events they are organizing - they are not hoarding domains.

https://www.eventcore.com/

They also have MS in their list of references.
https://microsofthostingsummit.com/

This event is also managed by Eventcore and the domain was acquired also by them.

Nice find... (fellow detective).. the hosting summit looks to be related to something else.. BUT the xboxevent.com thing looks to be the real deal..! wauw

Said it in the other thread:

You just know that Microsoft's event will be way more flashy than Sony's was. They'll wheel out celebs left right and centre.

And they'll have a poorer conference for it.

Because I could give a crap if, say, Pitbull is there or whatever. And I'm way more likely to buy a console at launch than the average person who would be impressed.

They'll probably announce 8gigs of memory to match Sony but won't mention what kind of memory they're using. Most consumers probably won't know what gdd5 is.

That doesn't matter to me and most of GAF. The general press loved the Wii and Kinect as well, but neither of those two things appealed to me in the slightest bit.

Me neither, but if we're talking about what benefits who, i think Microsoft ma have the advantage on that front.

There's no big secret here guys. Through basic common sense and supply chain monitoring, both companies know the other is introducing a console this year.
