Dang it Bobby, why is pizza so got-danged pricey?

I started delivering for Pizza Hut this summer part time while I take summer classes. For every delivery, there is a 2.50 'convenience' charge added. I don't get to see any of that and make due on tips.

For the people saying to not tip, please just go pick up your pizza. Save me gas. Nothing beats driving 15 miles (round-trip) to deliver a guy a FREE PIZZA and not getting tipped for it.

NEAR 20? Come to Canada. I have never paid less then 20 dollars for a delivered pizza ever.

But thanks to 2-4-1's Bangin' summer deal (4 mediums for $22) i ain't complaining.

I paid 26$ for 2 large pies last night, plus 3$ tip, total was 29$. Local non-chain pizzeria. Was delicious.

2-4-1 is really underrated. I give people shit all the time when they order the sauce rag that is PizzaPizza.

I haven't ordered out a pizza in years, though. Homemade whole wheat crust and the ability to choose from a variety of toppings that would make even a Californian pizza aficionado blush at will from my local market has caused irreparable damage to my ability to order pizza in good conscience.

I really need to buy a stone and start making it myself. :lol

While I'm on this: anyone here have one of those non-baked pickup pizzerias nearby and give it a try? Seems like a neat idea to me.

Just dont tip. I get charged delivery fees, I see no reason to tip on top of it.

I worked at a pizza place in high school and the delivery drivers knew everyone who did that. Just saying.

Anyone who's anyone just calls it The Hut now instead of Pizza Hut. Don't know if you guys didn't get that memo, or what.

I got a DiGiorno's today because of this thread - didn't feel like ordering or picking up a a pizza. It was crappy. The crust tasted buttery, which is not what I want in a pizza crust.

Ugh.

Pizza in Japan is almost 30$ so enjoy your cheap pizzas

Don't sweat it, we have better pizza in 'middle america' anyway.

Fuck, love me some Chi-town pizza. No joke. I will gobble the fuck out of it. Honestly, I'm about to print out this picture, add some basil and some sauce, and eat the fuck out of the picture.

What I do is order it and say I'll go and pick it up in order to avoid the delivery fees. Whenever I can't though, I always tip the delivery employee. I feel that if I didn't tip, I would be a horrible person.

Yeah they don't make that much anyways. I know somebody who use to work at one and they barely make anything. They rely on the tips.

Chain pizza stinks. Find a good mom and pop joint and go pick it up.

Papa J's says hi and I'm from NYC :lol (manhattan)

I enjoy local equally but I f'ing love papa J's pizza..

Yeah pizzas are too pricy. I ordered a pizza a month ago with 4 topping large from Papa Johns. I swear I got charged 30 dollars. Shouldn't be over 15 dollars tops.

Online instant coupons/or special deals on their site ftw (I always go for a special deal that has their normal crust + at least 2 or more toppings included, make sure to click special instructions and add extra sauce for no charge) I NEVER order pizza from them at menu price.

You can almost always get a large one +2 toppings for 10.99+ tax - delivery tip

for me it s pepperoni / sausage and if theres an extra free topping bacon.

I'll take your advice. Since Papa John is the only chain pizza joint that delivers in my town.

trust me with the extra sauce it'll taste much better and less salty. The only pizzas I tolerate w/o extra sauce are the regular style NYC pizzas but since Papa J pizzas are plumpy I have the best of both styles ;p papa J's normal crust is awesome, don't bother with their thin crust or that 100% whole grain "healthier" wheat they use.

Yeah I always order regular on the crust. Papa Johns is good but I find it pricey, with your advice maybe not pricey anymore. Sadly I hardly have room in my budget for pizzas anymore.

I feel you man, this shit adds up.

I normally order once a month sometimes 2 every 2 weeks if twice

Well a decent sized pizza (for 2+ people) delivered will usually end up costing around 3,000 Yen or more, which is completely ridiculous for anyone from North America.

"Americanized Pizza" is pretty crappy in Japan. It is expensive and not very good. Sure the wacky toppings (tuna fish, corn, potatos, squid, mini-hamburgers / hot dogs, etc...) are entertaining at first, but it sucks if you just want a big pepperoni pizza.

There are lots of good Italian restaurants with good "real Pizza", but this country is no good in general for delivery "Americanized Pizza".

Yeah pizza is expensive no doubt, but the difference between 3000 yen and $50 as the person I responded to apparently pays is big.

The closest to "Americanized Pizza" I find is simply going to Costco. Nice large pepperoni pizza for 2000 yen.

Even the delivery places always have deals which make the prices a little more "palatable". For example my local Pizza Hut has a half off day 3 times a month, which I take advantage off. Pizza Hut in Japan tastes exactly the same as the American counterpart to me. They even have the same pizza combos , like Meat Lover's, Deluxe, etc..

I'll have to remember to go into a Costco the next time I am near one. I still haven't been to one in Japan. Does the Pizza offered there taste similar to the stuff at American Costcos?

I think the main reason that Pizza is more expensive in Japan is because cheese is do damned costly. Every supermarket I have been to has only offered really small cheese blocks (if they even sell non-shredded cheese at all) and it is really expensive.

It's funny. Australian dominos have downsized their large pizza to a tiny 8" piece of shit. But at least it costs only $5.50 with a tuesday only voucher.

7" here (adelaide) now i think, $10 AUS full price. total joke and they have tasted like crap for years now anyway.

japanese pizza isn't that bad, its just usually more traditional italian style (excluding the stupid toppings at fast food places) and not americanised.

Gross, they put ketchup on it. That's mexico style right there.

Are those little hamburger patties on top?
Yeah it says 'hamburg pizza'

The sausage and cheese rolls are intriguing.

Came to post this. Shit's outta control. A $10 pizza is the American equivalent of a children's personal pan. Pizza ingredients are cheap too it doesn't make sense. One thing I love about America is delicious, dirt cheap ethnic food.

That's what I'm thinking also. Those pizza corp are really ripping us off.

Yeah pizza tastes exactly the same as the US Costco. Of course they have slices as well. Free refills on drinks too another rarity in Japan. :D

No idea but pizza is crazy expensive in the UK and its not even tasty. :(

My local place always has a BOGOF offer, so it always comes to £7.99 for two large pizzas including delivery! :D

And they are daaamn tasty.

There is a kick ass Italian place by my house that makes the best pizza in town and a 16" large is only 11.99...I love Maldinis!

I had a Digiorno pizza the other day! Oh my god that thing was wretched, and indeed there is such a weird after taste. It was like eating rotting dough or something. I can't describe it.

If I want quick, chain pizza in a pinch, I'd just go to Little Ceasers after and pick up one of theirs. It's cheap and I like it more than Dominos or Pizza Hut. It's not great pizza or anything, you dont get chain pizza in the US if you want anything standout, but it's satasfying with a coke or a beer after work when no one is home or to avoid cooking.

For Pizza, normally, I've been just trying to make my own lately.

Oh, and the Papa Johns here is REALLY bad. It's weird, because last time I was out of town I ate at one and it was quite fine, but the one here is just putrid. I dont know how, but its so different. Their cheese reminds me of that shit they'd serve you on pizza for lunch at school, with their cheese like substance that reminds of melted GI Joes or something.
