Daredevil Season 2 Trailer: When does right become wrong?

Ah I see. I asked because a friend of mine is very against using the Punisher as a villain. But I don't necessarily agree, I think he'll make a really cool villain.

He will. Daredevil's encounters with him in the comics are some of the most fun and interesting team-ups/fights in the Marvel Universe.

Bernthal killing it as Punisher, holy shit.

I'm hyped, but man, Foggy is the fucking worst.

I was kinda hoping the opening shot of the first episode of season 2 would be Foggy's gravestone. With zero explanation, and no one ever mentions or talks about it.

I'm looking forward to this more than I am Civil War. Holy shit it looks good.
Speaking of, I hope they take advantage of the shared universe for once and have SOME reference to the accords. Obviously DD and Punisher aren't creating Sokovia levels of destruction but they're still creating vigilante levels of mayhem in one of the world's most prominent city-scapes.

... Who am I kidding, they'll make a vague reference to "that whole robot thing" and nothing else.

The Frank Miller stuff. Plenty of other good runs after that (Daredevil is the most consistent superhero comic in terms of quality).

Writers to look for:
Ann Nocenti
Karl Kesel
Brian Michael Bendis
Ed Brubaker
Mark Waid

You could throw a stick and hit a good Daredevil comic.

Why do people keep forgetting Kevin Smith,, I'd say it's imperative to read Kevin Smith before getting to Bendis, for reasons that will become apparent once you finish his brief run.

IIRC in Anti-Venom, Punisher had no problem killing drug users when Eddie Brock was trying to get them help and cure their addiction. If this is the kind of Punisher we're getting I wouldn't be surprised if Matt wants to bring him down.

After Bernthal's vile comments praising the Punisher as a role model to law enforcement and the military, this makes me cautiously optimistic. But we'll see.

Most versions of the Punisher don't murder junkies unless they're selling or murdering. I don't think he's ever killed a user for just using.

He's killed junkies or at least tried to in the Anti-Venom run.

I never read that one. I've read most of his solo series and that never happened. Guess it's down to the writer. Like, he's been cast as a vile murderer and crazy loon and war junkie, but he's never killed defenseless innocents*

* except that Angel Punisher shit run and Matt Fraction's garbage Punisher run. That's never happened in the original runs or the good modern ones.

Edit: his depictions vary a lot:

Ennis: war junkie and monster fighting worse monsters - straight up brutality
Rucka: dead inside soldier whose not quite so dead inside - closer to a Western hero/vigilante type depiction
Edmondson: action hero - full on Die Hard/Commando style
Fraction: duplicitous lunatic - douchey and jerk
Reminder: monstrous hero - firmly good

I think the general idea was that he didn't consider heroin and crack addicts as innocent, maybe to contrast him with Eddie's "they're sick" approach.

Guardian Devil was huge at the time, since no one had really been reading DD in years (even after the kessel run, i think it was?), it was way more catholic than i'dve wanted but it as good and totally revived the character

that said, Bendis' run outshined it on every level, and in my mind may've surpassed even Miller's classic one, it was that damn good. i was not nearly as big a fan of dude until said run, honestly.

Somehow I doubt the values of the show writers or Marvel will in any way coincide with Bernthal's as far as the show or the character's portrayal is concerned.

I don't generally read non-solo Punisher stories because a lot of other writers don't really like to write him with depth or humanity. The really good Punisher stories tend to be quite subtle and deal a lot with how violence impacts the human soul and how violence and revenge is cyclical.

The bad ones just cast him as a dumb brute.

Even classic depictions are varied, with Mike Baron favoring a more human and action hero Castle while Dixon and Grant wrote darker and more violent stories.

If I'm recalling correctly, Berenthal came off as diplomatic as he could on the subject. It didn't sound like an appraisal of Punisher as much as it was a self-awareness that Punisher's black/white worldview means something to people in a way that affects or reinforces the reality we live in.

He's an actor, and any good actor can't judge the character he/she is playing. He has to find the empathy behind those motivations, no matter how poisonous that ideology is. He can't say "Oh he's a total horrible asshole so I played him as a horrible asshole."

Great trailer. Finally a trailer that got me hyped up.

Bernthal seems to have killed it and I can see why netflix is that close to pulling the trigger on a Punisher series. If they haven't already done so, they will soon.

Is Elektra supposed to be French? The actress sure has a french accent.
