Darius Burst announced for PSP

That is some sweet cover art. The PSP is becoming quite the respectable shmup platform. I have been playing the Sapphire port on the import Galaxy Angel Yuna collection. It is a lot of fun - hard as nails, but in a good way. Can't wait for Darius Burst.

Digital version is 1000 yen cheaper than retail price, but most retailers sell at less than RRP. Honestly I'm torn. I'm probably gonna get a PSP Go on Sunday, and this will be a must buy, and by all accounts, I'll probably quickly stop using my old school PSP. Hmm.

Still holding off on a pre-order. Just waiting to see what the day-and-date situation is for future UMD/DD is after the Japan Go launch. I'm thinking Japan will just be putting everything up on PSN, de rigueur. Darius on the Go...can't beat that.

Meh.

Looks pretty weak to me, as most 2D shooters with 3D graphics do. Just seems off, things are oversized, and just generally meh despite being Darius.

Gradius V is about the only one that got it right.

I think there was a Genesis and SNES version of Darius 2 that wasn't bad, but overall, the series really just lakes "oomph".
Considering were talking about Darius games, that's a nice slip right there. ;)

Personally, Darius Gaiden is very dear to my heart. Still own the original on Saturn as well as the Taito collection it is featured on. Love the music too (but was severely disappointed by G Darius' soundtrack: what is really so great about it?).

I read the Famitsu reviews of the game, and one writer was complaining about load time which is worrying.

If possible I would like to install this game, so if DD is available I might go that route.

You mean TATE? The controls still stayed the same when I tried it, which made it unplayable.
Sorry for the four month old reply. I don't get what you mean by "same" controls. I was able to control it just fine holding PSP vertically and moving with dpad or analog. Shooting with O and Triangle. Maybe I had to remap controls in the PS1 emulator settings, but I know it can be played just fine that way. It controls exactly like Star Soldier for example.

Man, it Has been a while since a new Darius came out. I remember playing the ps1 version on a roadtrip with a friend to Atlanta, battling big fish the whole way.

I really want it but it is so damn pricey to import and even on PSN it is 40000 yen. Trying to hold out for a budget domestic release a la Space Invaders Extreme.

I still need to play it more, but basically you don't just shoot your way through the levels, you also have this burst pod that you can summon which mows down shit in front of you. However the meter drops the more you use it so you have to use it in areas with lots of enemies, like asteroid fields. While this is an ok gameplay element, it feels a little odd to be moving this thing up and down like a waterpump as you go through the levels.

Then the bosses. These are a bit of a pain because they all have a big laser attack that you need to counter with your own laser. Problem is that the timing is really tight. Not sure if this gets easier or not, hope it does because at the moment I've only laser countered the first boss.

Sounds like they added some R-Type and Borderdown to Darius. Still have to convince myself of the price. Persona 3 Portable is only 500 yen more right now and I'm kind of leaning towards that. Of course, the UMD version of P3P is probably down to about 4000 yen or less right now.
