ok gonna sound like a rubbish thing to ask but what ones they got that are worthwhile getting? I love shmups , esp the vertical so anyones worth getting?

many thanks in advance

Star Soldier is your best bet for a Vert shooter. There's also...

Soldier Collection (The 3 * Soldier PC Engine games)
Parodius Collection
Gradius Collection
Salamander Collection.

And then Capcom Classics Remixed / Reloaded both have a couple of 194* games.

Oh, and Strikers 1945 Portable. Man I love my PSP.

Also, if you're running CFW, download MVS2PSP & CPS2PSP and then you have all the Neo-Geo shmups, Giga Wing & Mars Matrix amongst others.

Don't forget Twinbee Collection and Ginga Ojousama Densetsu Collection (which has the very expensive and highly sought-after Sapphire along with two non-shmup games). Oh, and Space Invaders Extreme, which, while unconventional, is awesome.

I don't think any of the PSP shmups are worth buying IMO. This will be the first one for me. If anything playing Progear No Arashi via CFW was the best shmup experience I had on the system.

That's my shit.

Not only did I forget to list it, I forgot to buy it!

Damn Play-asia for not shipping to Europe.

This is awesome news.

Also,

Is that Tommy Heavenly/February 6? (I'm going to assume so from the file name.)

PS1 Dodonpachi in vertical mode, via CFM. Makes it worth having a PSP just for that.

You mean TATE? The controls still stayed the same when I tried it, which made it unplayable.

Fuck me, of all the platforms it just had to be the one that I don't have, damn I'm always that lucky eh?!

Definitely envious, but more Darius (besides the awful GBA port) it's always a fantastic news.
Enjoy it you guys!

Who are the SIE team? Sorry my shooter catalogue is limited to CAVE and Grev, so I don't really know the old stuff.

Space Invaders Extreme? I haven't seen where it says that they're doing this game, but if they are, I'm excited. They did a great job with SIE (DS).

Edit: Still I'd hope Taito/SQEX would do the sensible thing and get G.rev working on this.

Any shooter news makes me happy, even though the Darius series is one that I've never been that into over the years. I did enjoy the 32-bit era Darius games, though, and will keep an eye on this one as well (the scans I've seen look pretty damn good).

I love the monster designs in the Darius games but could never really get into the actual series very much. Still, exciting news... did they ever fix the d-pad issues in the PSP 2000 or 3000 models?

Wow I remember this game from back in the day. Go PSP!!!!! I don't even like shumps, in fact, I find them boring but g-darius provided me tons of fun way back then.

Scans are out and about. Fishy designs look great. There's a new nautilus boss, too.

ohhh no, you're not getting out alive with that one

It's true.

Whichever one that was released for the Sega Saturn was the only one really worth playing.

Most of the Darius games outside of that one have been ports or remakes of the first game and kept most of the original Darius' problems.

I think there was a Genesis and SNES version of Darius 2 that wasn't bad, but overall, the series really just lakes "oomph".

I also never played the Darius game that was only on the PSX, since I had a Saturn growing up. I hear it's pretty good, but two games out of a series of about ten or so releases does not make Darius a "good series".

Holy shit, this news came out of no where.

My brother got me into shooters at a pretty young age so... Day 1 import or domestic.

Can't wait can't wait can't wait...

He's just speculating though, there's still more people on their in-house team. Makoto Ohsaka (G-Darius director) is still there for one.

Yeah, I was just speculating on the SIE team's involvement.

When I think of Darius, I think of the main arcade series: Darius, Darius 2, Darius Gaiden, and G-Darius. These are all great games.

The 3000's got a great d-pad. No problems whatsoever playing Guilty Gear, etc.

Most of the Darius releases were ports of the arcade games though.

In truth there are four games. First was made in like 1986 so it's practically ancient and dated, Second was a bit of a black sheep, Third was Gaiden and is still very good despite multiple issues, Finally there's G. which is phenomenal.

It's a good series.

Brand new Darius game after 2 billion years. Taito brings the war on fishes back on the portable scene. 11 stages, branching paths (starting from Stage 2, all stages have 2 paths, 5 stages per complete run, 4 possible final stages). Gundam 00 mecha designers on board for mecha design. Probably the only worthwhile article in Famitsu this week I bet.
