Dark Souls II Network Test | YOU DEFEATED

Thats why people (like me) assume it means the Ancient Dragon in Ash Lake. Since its the last of its kind.

Yes, but again are we talking about the same thing here? (Ancient / Immortal Dragons?)

And again, I'm going on the idea that DS2 is a prequel, in which case there's a possibility for Seath to still be alive in DS, but not the Immortal Dragon in Ash Lake.

Hope I'm making sense. It's all very interesting anyway, and I can't wait until we're able to dive into the juicy lore come March :)

I still think it was the Ash Lake dragon cause Seath was killed by the player on DS1 and doubt they would create inaccuracies like that on the lore. It would be pretty interesting to know if the Dragon from Ash Lake went aggro across Lordran and what caused him to do so. After killing Seath he is the only remaining dragon on the game and it would make sense to be him.

Also multiple item descriptions change the whole perspective of it being a prequel and back to the is it a sequel or a prequel.

You guys keep saying "prequel," but what if it's a sequel which takes place at an earlier point in time? No one said time had to be linear.

edit: After reading some more, that seems to be where some of the more composed theories are heading. This just makes me love DS2 even more. :)

Totally agree with the bolded. That guy was pretty chillaxed... I'll stop going on about a prequel then, as I've probably been on more of a blackout than you guys!

That's a good point. "Time" in DS was very wishy-washy; Solaire even says it himself when you first meet him. It's a nice way for them to bounce around and cover different places/events at different points. I'm sure I've read in a previous interview that they'll be continuing this trend in DS2.

I won't be reading any more item descriptions or anything before release, but can't wait to find out who that Ancient Dragon is, exactly who the guys are who allegedly slayed him, and many more fun facts.

I just thought I'd take the time to thank everyone who has posted in this thread so far! I never expected to have a NeoGAF thread of mine reach 1,000 posts.

Before anyone asks, I will be updating the thread for the larger scale network test coming on the 26th, I just want to make sure that we have the NA test date announced before doing so.

I don't think the "time is distorted" phrase really relates to time-travel though. It manifests itself as player ghosts, bloodstains, messages and phantoms, which are supposed to be other timelines that are either getting close to or coming in direct contact with your own. Time travel has been possible (as evidence by the DLC), but that was independent of the distortion that Solaire describes. If there is time-travel in DS2 though, I think it'll be explained as the result of something other than the wonkiness that causes ghosts and phantoms.

Awesome news. I check back now and again to see if it's been updated, and it's good to hear that it will be. Very excited for the next test, I think I'll do a bit more exploration this next time around.

The current times listed are:

UK
GMT 07-10 / GMT+1 : 08-11 on 27 October 2013

US
11PM PDT 10/26 to 2AM PDT 10/27
12AM MDT 10/27 to 3AM MDT 10/27
1AM CDT 10/27 to 3AM CDT 10/27
2AM EDT 10/27 to 5AM EDT 10/27

If these times are final, I believe that means the US test begins one hour before the UK test.

Will they have separate sign-ups for the second beta too? I mean if you didn't get into the first one, will there be a ticket to download again in the store or what?

I'm guessing it's a sequel that goes both forward and backward in time.

Ooooooooh I hope you have the winning answer! It would be amazing if you wound up in Anor Londo during it's hey-day. FROM would be stealing that Kevin Levine Rapture thunder!

From the tiny drops of lore we've seen it's looks to be a sequel. Your deeds in Dark Souls are a long lost legend.

Damn it, I have to stay up until 1 AM? I have to wake up early the next morning.

Do you think they will ever do a 360 beta?
Highly doubtful, as Japan has pretty much boycotted Xbox in general. With Fromsoft being a Japanese dev, they will probly just stick to the console of choice for their area. (I'm a xbox 360 player which kinda sucks in that aspect)

Regardless of the ending,
one day the flames would eventually fade and only Dark would remain. If you link the flame you are only slowing the process.

This is the best quote to look at for anyone still trying to figure out "the cannon ending". Then the argument arises of "howcome bonfires then?". Im interested to see how this plays out as im a firm believer in the Dark Lord ending being "cannon". Any speculation? Anyone?

No idea or speculation, but you know what'd be cool with regards to the dark lord ending?
Imagine if you could load a Dark Souls 1 save of your choice, and at some point you encountered a boss based on your Dark Souls 1 character (maybe as that very "dark lord" at some point).... like the Old Monk except it's an AI based on your former character (and a default boss for those without a save).

Probably too complicated to implement, but it'd be a neat idea I think.

Aw. Yiss.

5pm - 8pm for Australians. I've really lucked out with the beta. My first session was at a very comfortable 3pm, thanks to the NA code.

Would be cool to put these in the OP

So....

Belgium is GMT +2, this time oh year, ... 10am to 12pm?
Kinda early for me, responsabilities :(

Still, will try and get in on this.

EST time for the next beta? Im a bit lost.

"We are also pleased to announce the next beta session is being coordinated to run at the same time globally on October 27th from 07:00 - 10:00 AM GMT / 08:00 - 11:00 AM GMT+1."

From the beta-site.

Edit: 3hour long beta this time.

That controls chart is wrong. It has O and X reversed.

Those times are so shitty... but it was 3 hours last time too, they let it go a bit longer than advertised.

It was most likely translated directly from a Japanese chart without any concideration to actual gameplay. Culturally in Japan the circle is used to confirm and X is used to deny or go back. At least in games that's how it's been ever since the first Playstation.

Man, those times.

Never tried dual wielding last test, so I'll be doing that most of the time. Also going to pump up resistance to see how it works out.

Is there anything on-screen other than the health bar that indicates whether you're human or hollow? Missing my humanity counter :(

I haven't played the game, but i'd assume your HP bar would tell you. Full for human, not full if hollow.

[edit] haha ignore that lol you've said that same fucking thing in your post. fucking early morning saturday wakeup >.>

Can someone post how to get to the thing under the bridge before the next beta starts. I don't want to waste too many deaths on it this time lol.

IIRC you have to roll off the bridge straight into the item, so you plant your feet and don't roll into your death when you land. Landing in the other raised platform and then jumping into the item wasn't working. Took me a million tries and the reward was some consumable I already had plenty of (don't remember what) lol.

edit- I was a bit drunk at the time so this roll thing might or might not be correct. I will be staying home nice and sober all night on the 27th to properly enjoy and remember things this time

Am I correct in thinking that FROM have been working on tweaks/optimization since the initial beta's end? If so, will the changes be able to be patched in for the next test?

I wish they'd give us the option to use the Japanese controls. Run on X, item on Square opens up many more gameplay opportunities than how it is the western release.
