Dark Souls III: The Ringed City |OT| One Last Journey

I beat Zelda yesterday and started this earlier today for about an hour or so. I'm SO rusty. Keep hitting Zelda buttons and getting myself killed.

Optional boss
Midir
down for the count on attempt 4 I think. Listen how the music swells! Ooh, majestic! An Ashen One is an Ashen One, even in DLC!

Had the boss on a fraction of health, and of course then the riposte triggers. Hey, I'll take it! Cinematic as fuck.

Seraphim17 has been saying that the DLC is rather disappointing.

Hope it isn't true -- but I won't find out until the complete edition is out.
I'm not far, but it really seems opinions on the DLC depend on how patient you are with a certain enemy type.

I need help with the
Dickhead purple dragon
.

Anyone willing to lend a hand?

Edit: Also how do I obtain the
Purging Monument
answer for the Knight at the Ringed City where he is sitting down.

Alright, final (mandatory) boss was pretty good, though a bit of a damage sponge in NG+. Definitely love the fights in Souls games that feel like legitimate duels.

Now I've just gotta do the optional stuff and I'm done.

I just found a way to
respawn the second boss.
Neat.

Has anyone tried killing
the angel that spawns after you beat the expansion?
I don't want to waste my time if it doesn't give you anything.

the dlc was great.. i was able to rush through it in about 5 hrs.
Gael annoyed the crap out of me.. i wanted to rip his cape off and shove it down his throat
Way better than DLC 1 in the terms of setting.. i still love Friede fight.

Someone I just summoned dropped 100 Embers for me.

I've heard mixed things about Ashes, but I've been waiting to play them together.

Is it worth $25 for both or would y'all recommend just this one?

Ashes has one of the best bosses in the series and you need it to get the ending of Ringed City. I think you should get the season pass.

I'm so rusty, the first boss is kicking my ass. Getting to
the prince is no problem but I keep underestimating his damage and eating massive fire attacks
. Great design on it though

Final boss
Gael's
last phase is driving me nuts. I get there easily and with a ton of flasks and he always kills me in one combo because something stuns me.

The fight is great, but aaaaaagh I'm so frustrated.

I found phase 2 and 3 much easier to read that phase 1. That is way more unpredictable (but moves are still fairly well telegraphed).

When he spawns skulls, he'll rise and lunge forward, back up, and lunge again. Dodge left and attack.

When he lunges with no prior attack in the chain, dodge left and attack.

When he hesitates, he's about to do two fire spins, launch into the air, and then crash down. Dodge left and attack.

When he slashes horizontally, it will be followed up with another. He may then lunge. If he does, dodge left and attack. If not, don't attack.

If there is blue glowing spots on the ground nearby, don't attack and move out of range.

These patterns repeat over and over. Once you break each one down, it's just following the pattern. I went from failing miserably a dozen or so times, to beating him with 10 estus left. Mistakes will be easily punished. That's okay. Just keep mid distance, and never more than 1-2 hits during an opening.

Holy shit the final boss of this DLC isn't fucking around. I took down the other bosses no problem, but this is giving me trouble.

I'm too distracted by how beautiful the arena and lore/story is haha

So Lapp is no longer in the room with the bonfire where he asks you about the purging stone. I found it(google, of course) and he's no longer there. Am I screwed?

Beat him very next try lol. Damn good fight. I prefer the music of the final boss of the Ashes DLC, but this boss takes the cake for every other category. Actually, I wasn't that big of a fan of any boss music in this DLC (save for the first one I guess).

Well, I have every item and piece of gear now, just need to take down the optional boss.
Great DLC overall but flawed in some aspects.
My personal ranking of Souls DLCs after this is

Artorias of the Abyss
The Old Hunters
The Ringed City
Crown of the Old Iron King
Ashes of Ariandel
Crown of the Sunken King
Crown of the Ivory King

Optional boss is boring. I hate these kinds of bosses, its more about running around and hoping you're not near the AOEs. Might just summon to get this over with, as I think I'm pretty much over this DLC.

I agree, which is a shame because I love the look of the boss and the arena you fight them in.

So after the final boss, I went back to Ashes of Ariandel and
gave the kid the blood pigment. She said thanks and she'll make a painting of me. Uhhh, that's it? Kind of a lame ass ending. Two lines of dialogue about the Dark Soul pigmemt is all we get? The fuck is she even talking about? Ugh FromSoft pulling the same confusing shit.

Not even a cutscene but just confirming what the bird guy tells you right after you finish the first DLC

If you don't give her your name she says that she will name the painting as "Ash".

That's the name of the new game From is making.

For sure.

jk, it was a disappointing ending ;_;

Planning on starting the DLC today, can't wait.

One question though before I get going; is there any brief walkthrough that lists missables that you really need to think of? I am on NG++ (or +++, can't remember) and I don't wanna miss any missable items/equipment. Aside from soulcrafted equipment, of course.

Thanks in advance.

Optional boss almost down on my own, but it's honestly not worth it so I'm just gonna stop here since the summoning system isn't even working.

I went to talk to ariandel to give her
the pigment
, and all I got was a couple lines of throwaway dialogue. I can't believe this is it. The DLC was an utter disappointment in all areas except for the final boss and the environment designs, and I honestly think it's the worst piece of Souls DLC (and I say this as someone who despises the DS2 DLC). I can't believe Dark Souls is ending on such a sour note.

Yup, just finished it all myself. Even for Dark Souls standards, the lore in this DLC is beyond vague and unsatisfying. Such a disappointment.

Who at FROM thought that optional boss would be fun....?

I thought it was fun. The only thing to look out for was it's fire attacks, besides that it's attacks were predictable.
I assume the issue with most people is the fact that you have to hit the head to do good damage, which can be annoying with some weapons(I first tried a spear then switched to the murakumo).

Doesn't help that I'm NG+3 I suppose, not to mention the summoning system never works. Think I may just have to skip this one. I'm doing like .1% damage with each hit

Finished it. The more I progressed through this DLC the better and better it got. Stunning world design (especially the last area that blew my mind), ruthless enemies, interesting lore that made gave me waves of nostalgia, and fantastic bosses, especially the final one.

Then I got to the end. Pretty let down to be honest. The DLC was building up so well and then its just...that. I loved the DLC, and normally I wouldn't let it detriment from the rest of the experience, but considering this is the conclusion of Dark Souls, it's bothersome. Overall, I think this is on par with Artorias of the Abyss, and just a hair off of Old Hunters. The conclusion being the main thing that kills it.

In terms of the bosses:
I liked the Demons. It coming back to life as the Demon Prince caught me by surprise but I managed to take it down on the first try.

Darkeater Midir felt hopeless at first when I saw his health and I thought I was doing something wrong. Over time though, I focused more on his head, understood his moveset, and beat him down. I think Midir is an example of a giant dragon done right. What should have been the Ancient Dragon.

Spear of the Church is great for the fact its a damn PVP boss again and I love it. Can't wait to mess around with that.

Gael is was perhaps the longest I've ever spent on a boss in Souls and is probably the first boss that has made me pretty salty. I usually keep calm and sight my mistakes to learn from them when I die but fucking Gael pushed me over the edge. But I loved it. Absolutely intense fight and is probably the greatest boss arena of all Souls. Gave me the chills to actually be in the cover art of the game.

Holy crap, now I know why you guys say he's a marathon. Got down to one Estus and I wasn't even at his second phase yet. Also, despite his large health pool, I think he's a fun fight.

Also, how do you defeat
Mr. Badass Fume Knight Wannabe
outside of the church?

That's unfortunate. Doing such little damage reminds me of the Ancient Dragon fight in ds2(which sucked). I'm curious, what attacks are causing you trouble?

Also, I just find it funny that the final boss of all of Dark Souls:

Is some guy named Uncle Gael who looks like a medieval Santa Claus and is wearing no pants. I mean, I like final bosses who aren't these larger than life enemies. Just find it funny though.

Just started playing this today.

First time I've rage quit a Souls game in a while. Those fucking
Laser Angels
are ridiculous. I cannot get past the first one and I'm frustrated as hell. Just not a fun section at all. Fuck.
