Yeah, you won't be making lightning weapons for a while. At that point all you can make is magical, divine, or +6/Raw.

Thanks man, so what do I do with the Butterfly soul, and that stone I got from the top of her tower?

The stone is probably the divine ember, just give that to the blacksmith.

The soul you'll need for a
spear or shield later on. The shield in particular is amazing, apparently, so hold on to it.

I just purchased combustion, Iron flesh, and one other pyro spell and for some reason it will not let me cycle between the three different spells,am I missing something?

After you purchase the spell
Resist Curse
from the NPC
Ingward
, would it be easier to just kill this person and get the
key
from their corpse rather than get it the long way, or does this person serve any other purpose?

Every invader I've run into in the last couple days has been wearing that, apparently. I don't have the skills to overcome the disadvantage of not being lock-on my opponent. I can get a few hits in but eventually they get behind me and they all 1 hit kill me with a backstab.
Yeah the Ring of Fog was the biggest mistake for PVP because there is really nothing to counter it and mages are screwed unless they use AOE spells.

So, I have 4 Boss Souls
-Ornstein, Moonlight Butterfly, Iron Golem and Sif
, any suggestions on what weapon or shield I should craft? I'm a Melee heavy character with 35 Strength 20 Dex and bare minimum magic stats. I wanted to try the
True Greatsword of Artorias with the broken sword hilts
, but I am open to suggestions, I have been mostly using a Claymore and Large Club throughout my game, maybe I should have killed
Smough
last...

Blighttown is the low point of the game for me so far. It isn't just the frame rate either, it's those stupid dart blowing guys, the poison swamp, those infinitely respawning giant mosquitoes, the shaky bridges, that stupid elevator where it's too easy to accidentally fall off and die when you're trying to get off, and the fact that it seems to drag on forever.

I could go on, but you get the picture. Thankfully, I think I'm almost finished with this level. I'm definitely not looking forward to going through this place again in future playthroughs.

The blow-dart guys don't re-spawn once you kill them once. Spider Shield will fully block their poison darts and stop you from going toxic. Keep it up - block their darts, navigate in for the kill - don't need to worry about again later.

Murky swamp? Get the Rusted Ring from the Undead Asylum - can go through the swamp at normal speed.

Sadly, still gotta deal with the infinitely spawning mosquitoes.

Is it normal that the
Londo Ruins (I think that was the name)
make the game run at like 15fps when you pan the camera towards the center of the level? 360 version BTW.

Sadly, that's very normal. Across all versions.

Good thing is the toxic blow dart assholes don't respawn as you've probably noticed. Also don't miss the second bonfire down in the swamp near the boss entrance. That level is more manageable with some poison resistance/cures and a Spider Shield.

Yep, I went from raging on that level thinking "Dammnit, this might be the one that does me in".

Then I decided to leave it, better prepare for it - returned with a real game plan, and actually kinda enjoyed it by the end.

Just beat
Gaping Dragon
. Now I am ready for the sleep.

Oh this game. feelsgoodman.

I just beat him myself, I was a little disappointed in how easy it was. I didn't want another
Capra Demon
though. Sure did make use of that 25,000 soul reward.

Thanks again sixghost for mentioning the patch to get rid of the curse stacking. I probably would have put the game off for a while if it weren't for that.

The little bit of
Blighttown
I've played so far, I didn't really care for all that much. But I'm still early.

This game is soooooooooo bad in PVP.

Like literally, really really bad. So many broken items that make the experience awful.

Ring of Fog makes you near invisible and not target-able.

Dragon Head Stone lets you spam fire bombs, instantly killing anyone caught by it.

There is probably more bullshit that I haven't came across yet.

There's also infinite invincibility by endlessly casting Strong Magic Shield.

There's not a lot of point to playing dedicated PvP at the moment, there's an endless throng of glitched players just hanging out and annihilating all comers. The Soul Level restrictions on regular invasions keeps that aspect of it comparatively sane, but the PvP covenants without level limits are ridonkulous.

A good weapon for a high DEX build? I've been hearing the Fury Sword is a prime candidate, can anyone confirm this?

Also, fuck Blight Town, From didn't even try xD it's pretty much copy/paste Valley of Defilement

Sweet, YES, it was the divine ember. I did give it to that blacksmith. What does that allow him to do for me, and when? Thanks, last question.

How and where do I upgrade my Scimitar +5 into fire or magic? (which is best) because I'm hearing Dex scaling is not that great and I just beefed up my dex to 40 :(

I don't get why Demon's Souls/Dark Souls fans hate Blighttown for anything more than the framerate issues(which weren't "single-digit" bad for me). Nice and brutal and scary.

Speaking of which it always makes me lol when people say stuff like "Meh, blah blah can't handle Dark Souls, I heard him talking about it on some podcast. Dark Souls is too hard for the modern gamer". Then they proceed to braindead grind way above a challenging level so the game will be easier.

Anyway, I've been hearing DEX/STR weapons suck vs occult and lightning and basically anything else. If that is true, that is really upsetting. Why raise STR or DEX at all then?

Some spells seem to one-shot me and are relatively safe to recast. Not to mention getting backstabbed or hit from 6 feet away. Stuff like this is making me think I won't beat this game more than 2 times. Covenants are quickly losing their appeal, aside from the co-op one.

as a terran, every game is easy

almost wish I was toss, that way I'd find everything (other than derp-sc2) super hard.
tbh, after playing sc2 for a year now i don't feel frustrated at all when i play another game let alone a sp game.

It's a good thing I have work in between Dark Souls sessions, or I'd never have time to come up with a game plan for the nights adventure.

I wish I was playing right now. :(

Just finished watching all 26 parts of DSP butchering this game.

Thank God I was playing my beastly new character while doing it, or I might've gone crazy.

Holy shit, thank you for reminding me about this.

What a complete MORON :lol

Spider Shield makes the dart blowers a non-threat AND they won't respawn once you kill them.

As for the water wheel, welcome to platforming!
I figured that out pretty quickly.

And the "platforming" in this game sucks. I was just thinking about how pleasant it was that I didn't accidentally fall off and die like I would occasionally in Demon's Souls... until I reached this level. I'm generally pretty careful when it comes to that but unfortunately it seems like no matter how careful I am, it's inevitable that it's going to happen.

Aside from this shitty level though, I still love this game.

So... I just joined the Forest Covenant and I'm not allowed to attack ANY of the creatures there, yet they attack me. That doesn't make any sense?

are weapons sword wise are worth using / upgrading.

no interested in use drake sword it served its purpose

Well I have right now a Raw Longsword+4, a Divine Longsword+3 and going to get a Magic Longsword soon.

I have too many of those lying around, and I like the toy anyway. It's either that or the Zweihander for me, my favorite weapons.

So I say it's worth it. Besides, the shards are 800 souls a pop anyway, by the time you're done with blighttown you can by lots of it constantly so it's not really an issue. Altough, I think damage wise I'm lacking right now. Gonna try to make something with fire on it.

Probably a Longsword :p

Nope. At least I didn't. I killed
Gaping Dragon, Butterfly, Quelaag x 10 for massive farm, Asylum Demon, Hydra, Sen's, Anor Londo

Zeliard said:
You don't have to worry about those guys. If you don't want to fight them normally you can get the boss to kill them for you.

Also there's actually a different way to get to that boss I found yesterday. If you go past the forest crest, you can go to an area that takes you to
a ladder right above the Hydra.

I saw a player message above that read "Dead end." So naturally, I started climbing down. It didn't go swimmingly.

Thanks guys.

lol @ Dead End.

It's spelled with an i, Iaito. :P
You know, I had been spelling it with an i FOREVER but the stupid internet confused me. I started seeing Liato everywhere and I was convinced that I had been saying/spelling it wrong this whole time.

Glad that's cleared up.

I read on the wiki that you can attack those, but you can't attack friendly NPCs in the forest

The framerate really kills that area. It's my only complaint. The rest has you on edge with everything going. I put myself in a safe spot and saved out so that I can continue later. Hopefully when I reach the boss, I'll be able to summon a couple people to take the boss down. It makes the fights much more fun. I'll save the solo stuff for NG+.

Was walking around
Anor Lando
when I noticed a pile of ashes. Naturally I clicked the button and I was invaded shortly after. As far as I know its a mechanic of
The Path of The Dragon
.

Anyway so the guy spawns at the top of the stairs near two large enemies obviously trying to get me to come up after him so he can be assisted. I'm like, "Nah man. You invaded me Imma chill". So I stand at the base of the stairs doing the "Well, Come on THEN!" gesture.

He eventually comes running down the stairs with his Halberd and pokes me a couple times but my Endurance is obviously beyond him because it only takes off about half my stamina. He backs up a bit and goes two handed. When I see that I switch to my handy dandy Halberd +12 and gash his ass down to about a quarter of his health. He switches to his Drake sword and great shield and rushes me.

I switch to my Black Knight Great Sword and Do the Heavy One handed attack. It literally launched him about 10 meters in the air before he crashed into the ground in a cloud of red smoke. Awesome.

I love this game. Oh and of course I sent him a taunting message over PSN.

So which is better? IIRC Thunder weapons have no scaling?
They don't but according to what people are saying thunder weapons are so good that the lack of scaling is irrelevant. Apparently it takes like 50-60 dexterity for the Iaito +15 to outperform the Thunder Iaito +5. In other words, both are good but Thunder is probably your best bet.

Wow. Made it to Minotaur Boss and was promptly smashed. I made it back to him, was able to sprint and snatch up my souls, run away up a ladder to a roof and said hmm, lemme try something. i did a drop attack on him and was like okay, rinse and repeat, so i went up ladder again except this time, the big guy decided to jump all the way up there too. i said ohshitohshitohshit and teleported my ass back to a bonfire.

this game is crazy. and also, that fucking Dark Knight or whatever he is--he has his back turned to you down some steps--my wrath is coming for that fucker tonight.

Edit: On framerate issues, I did notice that turning off the HUD definitely makes it smoother but who can afford to turn off everything? I wish you can choose which elements to keep--like targeting reticule and lifebar only.

I hated it for the same reasons I hated the Tower Of Latria. Not in the 'traditional' sense of hate but I hated going through it because it was so creepy and unwelcoming. Like if i'd ever get lost and find myself there in real life I'd want to GTFO fast. The developers made a dark, scary, unwelcoming environment and they did a great job with those areas.

This and
The Catacombs
were very exhausting areas to go through the first time. Mainly because of how dark and scary everything is with creepy enemies wanting to kill you and you have no idea where the next bonfire is. I loved the tension in traversing these places. Gotta hand it to From for creating such a great atmosphere in this and Demon's Souls.

Hmm, well thanks :)
ATM, Im using a +5 Iaito who makes the Lightning upgrades? And where do I find the ember to do so?

You don't need an ember but you do need an Iaito +10. The blacksmith who does the upgrades is the one in
Anor Lando.

I need me a break from this game. I've got a good 35 hours invested into it, only played for a little bit today. Need some rest, haha.

I think I might pick up Batman next week, that way I can play something that makes me feel like a badass. It's not that I don't like the feeling this game gives, it's just after a while you need something different.
