I have a feeling that Int based builds with Enchanted weapons might dominate the metagame, but that's just a hunch. We haven't seen many people at crazy high soul levels yet.
I have a feeling you're right. The upgrade system definitely seems to be weighted in that direction this time around.

Guys...I just got this game and am a complete n00b.

I would like to make a char that wears light/chainmail armor that uses Longsword/shield & Katana. I would also like to be able to cast healing magic.

What is the best starting type for this? I was thinking warrior or wanderer? Should I dump points into DEX or STR?? Help :)

I am having so much trouble with the four kings. 75% of the time I die on the way to the abyss jumping spot, the other 25% I die to the four kings.

In about 3 or 4 attempts on the four kings, I've hit them a grand total of 0 times.

Could do what I did: Warrior with enough Faith to cast some miracles.

killed some
HUGE ASS, FRAME-RATE MURDERING CATS
in the forest. the forest hunter cat isn't upset about it though. Do they respawn? gave an awful lot of souls. There are also
mushroom men
here, haven't attacked me yet, but I can lock-on so I assume they are fair game?

I think you should focus much more on DEX than STR. Upgrade your STR enough to use your weapon of choice but beyond that focus on DEX, especially if you want to use a katana.

It's a nice weapon, but get used to having your attack power cut in half until you get back to your bloodstain when you die.

Do you know how effective the
Chaos Blade is? Don't think Queelag's can be made with an Iaito and that's the one I'm getting to +10.

He is under the bridge near Fireshrine (The very first bridge you go into (He is under it and you need to clear out the guys (Very easy at this point in the game) and then jump across a small gap and hug the pillars of the bridge (There is also I think a corpse with a ring beside him)

thanks! found him... Too bad he doesn't carry gold risen anymore.

Ugh, I don't want to kill anyone... There MUST be someone who sells Uchigatanas? Or some enemy that drops it?
There may be further in the game but if you want that particular sword early then you have to kill him. Apparently, you can get it from the forest vendor for 5000 souls.

That are other katanas which people seem to be quite fond of. The iaito which can be found in blightown.

Can anyone explain how to avoid the Four King's magic attacks?

So, just had some success with them (got them to 50% but got overwhelmed...lightning spear wasn't killing it fast enough). the scream can't be avoided from what I can tell. just block and it will do fairly minimal damage.

the purple glow gets cast in an arc in front of it. When you see it casting, run to the opposite side of the king from the purple glow.

I'm done for today. Can't deal with Sen's Fortress anymore right now. Managed to kill the two giants which is a relief, I then died because I thought attacking the micic chest would be a good idea... Died 3 more times in various early parts after that and shut the game off.

Hrmmmmm, ok thanks! I might just go full tank mode... I managed 50% myself earlier. Good luck!

was just exploring the darkroot gardens..found a hidden path to the darkroot basin. my god, ive never been so scared. found a MASSIVE monster in a lake..making tidal waves, then everywhere i ran there were massive ice dudes walking around. it was EERIE. i ran back up the hill so fast.

Im going to switch drake sword soon - ive got an Estoc + 5 and Longbow + 5...want to turn them both to magic so they scale with my high INT.

Now ive got 60 soul arrows, 20 Heavy Soul Arrows and 12 Great heavy Soul arrows. next stop, Moonlit Butterfly then off to the sewers to get some green shit to make my magic weapons...

I feel like an idiot. Bought Magic Weapon but can't use it? Even been to the
blacksmith below Firelink Shrine since he sells some magic stuff. How do I enchant it on my weapon? And is it a permanent enchant?

Using spoiler just in case.

The funny thing about what you posted? You don't even need to go that way until later in the game. Go straight from the Bonfire, down to kill the Golden Gargoyle, and then go left and it's pretty straight forward from there.

Multiplayer is pretty rad whenever you can get it to work.

I got five in one night helping people with Capra. xD Three of them were even voice and now they are on my friend's list.

Dark Souls...bringing the world together.

Sen's Fortress was easily the most scared I've been in a while. It only gets worse, and the bonfire is not until you reach the roof. In the last stretch before the bonfire it's just absolutely fucking ridiculous and I can't believe I made it across alive. If you have strong ranged you should be ok there, but I had nothing.

Fuck I've been upgrading both equally >:( this game can be so vague on descriptions...

Fuck this game, fuck it.

Was doing well in the depths, killed both the dual cleavers, the big rat, the sorcerer, not sure where to go, fell down a hole. Killed the basilisks, survived, killed about another 6. Read a message on the groud, great ring ahead. Jumped by 3 more basilisks from no where and cursed. Just died again trying to get back down. 10k souls lost, cursed, got to head all the way out to get a cure and start again. So fucking pissed.

I hate this boss.

25% this time using my gravelord sword, but that seemed to sacrifice too much defense (being unable to block while attacking).

Warrior, I'd say. I started a wanderer, but I rerolled. Warrior's starting equipment is light enough to be under 50% of equip burden, thus allowing you to do medium fast rolls (less than 25% of equip burden means fastest rolls). They start with a longsword, which is great to begin with. For healing magic - which is a bit redundant in this game, since you regain all your 'heals' (flasks) when you rest as a bonfire, which is also how you regain your magic uses by doing the same - you need to use miracles. That relies on faith.

If you're going Katanas later, they're DEX based. I've been keeping moderate on the DEX so far, because I haven't gotten a katana yet (getting the Iaito soon), but when I get it, I'll get more DEX. I'd say you'll find that healing magic isn't that necessary, because they take possibly longer to do than using a flask, so at least give it a go, then see what you find.

What stats should I raise?

I hope I'm remembering right, I think so far my stats look like this;

17 VIT
10 ATT
20 END
20 STR
12 DEX
11 RES
8 INT
12 FAI

Should I just go all out on END/STR for a while? Do I need more VIT?

Edit: Also, I've been using Drake Sword. Since I just got my DEX to 12 I tried the Halberd out.. I'm not sure about it, it's a bit slow. Are there any other good weapons that aren't too impossible to get?

I skipped that one because it didn't look all that much different to me, stat-wise, than the Iaito it would have been replacing. It may well have something the raw stats don't tell you about, like the Humanity scaling on the
Furysword.

The basilisks claim another soul. :D

I recommend a spear against them. Remember they always use the curse gas so just back off until they do it.

The first time you do the sewers sucks, the next time you just dread it, after that and once you unlock the shortcuts/bonfire it's a cakewalk.

Jesus Christ, Spitting Frogs get the fuck away from me. That was the first time I seriously got freaked out by this game.

Yea, after losing in there going back through is just ugh. Not hard just easy to misread some of the swinging blades.

Estus drinking needs to be faster :( again only 50%. May switch back to my Capra +14

Personally, I think your VIT is fine (I am at level 40 and only have 12 VIT) Keep going for STR or FAI.

Sorry, I'm a bandit. I'm fond of meele but as you can see, I raised FAI and ATT to at least be able to get some pyro/faith spells..

Was a pain in the ass for me for a LONG time. I found out almost turning the view vertical on the last part REALLY helped.

I got the curse too, who sells the antidote? I want to be a normal hollow again.

Holy fuck as human you can summon lots of folks down there in the Depths, got even invaded and my buddy killed him:) got 4 Humanity but then lost it again and 18k souls......

Remember you can drink potions consecutively without really missing a beat. Once you start the animation you can drink probably as many in a row as you have.

So.. I can add magic or lighting damage to gargoyle's halberd? Weapon upgrading in this game still confuses me. :| Also there's a blacksmith underneath firelink?? where?

fuck me everytime I see a wide open field or something i know a boss fight is coming. I just opened that pass with 20,000 and after killing mad ghosts and shit I came to a field with a huge sword at the end. I just know if I go there I'll have to fight some bitch. I can't even bring myself to do it right now it's so scurry

There's a vendor in the bell tower in Undead Parish.

Classes doesn't really mean that much. Going STR normally means you'll benefit best by HUGE MAFAKKIN WEAPONS that are insanely powerful, but will make you vulnerable if you miss. DEX normally means nimble weapons like katanas, etc. VIT is of course always good, but END can be even better, if you know what you're going for. You can get better equipment and maintain your fast rolls.

getting 10 int is definitely a low threshold to get access to sorceries. If you find some interesting spells, increase ATT to carry more. RES is pretty much the same as VIT.
