do you guys know how can i reach the giant blacksmith from the princess bonfire?
Take the lift down, leave the boss room, go past the first sentinel and then up the stairs past the dragonslayer bow knight and continue up. There is a passage at the top on the right.

Two ways:
There should be a spiral staircase nearby that leads down directly to him, or if you remember a broken window on the way in (the one that didn't lead to the room with the giant painting), use it to go outside and it'll lead to the left side of the gate.

Just remember to unlock the closed door in order to get a shortcut to him on later runs.
oh you mean the door after the exit of that place? I opened it.

Is there an easy way to get humanity near the bonfire before
Smough
and
Ornstein
? I've just been grinding the dark knights for an easy 1800 souls every time.

Helping other people kill them or invading is the only way I know. ;/

Where's the second bonfire in Catacombs? I see it on the map in the official guide, and it looks like it should be at the end of the tunnel with the two crystal lizards, but for some reason I just don't see any bonfire there. Am I missing something?

His normal smashy-smashy attack is a completely different animation. It's not a glitch, just like being able to
make the Iron Golem lose his balance and topple off the top of Sen's Fortress
isn't a glitch.

Haha what? As in there's an actual animation for that, or he just happens to fall off since it's a small environment?

I fought that guy for 2 hours and not once did he use that hand to attack. That has to be him holding on for life over the pit.

Yep, I think the whole Ceaseless Discharge thing is pretty settled.

illusory wall that you need to hit to reveal the bonfire.

There's the big giant door which you open via a nearby lever, but after you find the blacksmith, there's a small one-way unlockable door at the black iron gate which will take you directly to him if you start from the main bonfire, cross the bridge and turn left instead of going straight (into the castle where the boss was) or right (to the route you had to use originally).

Hard to describe that geography but hopefully that makes sense.

Wondering if someone can help me understand weapon upgrades. So I've been using Iaito +10 for a while and really liking it. Now I have the option of turning it into Lightning Iaito, but it looks like that doesn't scale with Dex anymore and I've been putting a lot of points into Dex for using curved swords and katanas. Is it still worth the upgrade? I can't tell if I should go lightning or just go +15. How much does the scaling matter?

There's an actual unique animation for it, just like
Ceaseless Discharge's
special death animation.
You need to attack his ankle. I know it works if you hit his right one, don't know about the left. Pretty sure he has to be on the narrow walkway he starts on. Hammer the ankle and he'll start to sway. Keep hitting it as he sways and his leg will buckle and he'll topple off the edge.
It's pretty awesome. If you pull it off in co-op and you time it right you can do the Come at me bro emote right as
he topples to his death.

I'm in the covenant of the darkmoon blade and I've been summoned using my white soapstone to the world of the guilty, to help fend off invaders... I feel like I'm betraying these guys

So, this DSP review was posted.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sz4nGGuqPxA

He hates on the game. Says the game is too long, takes too much time to beat and it was too hard for him to finish it.

He did not complete the game. He stopped playing due to the difficulty.... but gives it an 8. Wut

Does he not understand what a review is? 8/10. That's a great game. His score says he thought it was great... so great he didn't finish it and won't play it again?

A game that's an 8 out of 10 can have flaws... but if they're flaws that cause you to STOP playing a game? I don't think that means it's an 8.

Not that I expected some awesome insight from DSP, just so odd how off he is with his own opinion of a game. It would have been totally fair for him to have said. Too hard, doesn't tell you anything, too much of a frustrating time commitment... 2/10. Instead he said it's too hard etc. 8/10. Strange.

On that note. Not having much luck with the game. Between farming in such a way that the only thing that's dying is me... I try to take on a boss (
The giant wolf
) and get demolished and it seems like the other ways open to me are no gos as well... I'll have to wait until next weekend I guess to play. Midterms next week, so I'll be studying tomorrow, then back to school monday. Hopefully next weekend is better for me with this game, heh.

just got trounced by the
graping dragon.
HOLYSHIT @ the modelling+design. Now that is a bloody beast. That whole area getting to it was a confusing mess - and I'm not looking forward to going back to it.

and I spent 6k on a purging stone and its single use? FMLLLLLlll

Hey guys where is the grinding spot in the Darkroot Garden many people said its easy to grind in a certain spot and I am trying to find it... Also do I have to buy the crest before I get to this spot. For all I know I could be in the wrong place all together...

An 8 on the modern 7-10 scale is 50%

Against my better judgement I watched his Dark Souls review and actually thought it was pretty reasonable and balanced. His 8/10 is logical - he thinks it's a good game but that it just isn't for him.

The consensus so far seems to be that Lightning is the better upgrade route until your DEX is in the mid 50+ range.

You can always revert the weapon to +10 normal if you ever get there.

The first time it ever happened I was in co-op as a phantom. When it happened the host cheered, the other phantom sort of ran around as if he was trying to figure out what the hell just happened, and I shrugged.

I think they were all perfectly valid reactions.

The ability to painlessly revert a piece of gear to +5 or +10 to access those upgrade trees was a nice little addition they made.

If it's "not for him" why did he say it was an 8?

A review is a persons opinion on a game, and a score is their opinion summed up in a number.

Mortal Kombat isn't bad, but I don't like it. If I don't like it, and do not play it any more, so I'd give it a 3 or a 4 out of 10. It's not BAD, but I don't like it. If I don't like something I wouldn't rate it highly. I dunno. It seems odd to hate on a game, quit playing it and rate it highly. (Probably higher than games he DID finish and did enjoy, if only somewhat).

I only watched a couple sections from the videos of this DSP guy playing the game. He never locked on and he seemed to have no idea how the stamina bar worked. He seemed to have no clue how to play the game. Why even do a review?

OK, cool. I'll give that a try. Good point on reverting, thanks.

Even though there don't seem to be more unique animations it does seem that some other boss 'loopholes' of sorts are also purposeful. Like the Taurus Demon. During pre-release this video circulated that showed a player making him fall over the side of the bridge. Except that section of the bridge also happens to have a gap there that is roughly the Taurus Demon's size, and you're dealing with a very limited environment in space. Purposeful? Dunno.

And there's also Capra. Those stairs and that ledge above are pretty conspicuous in an otherwise small, square room. A lot of people, if not most, use them to facilitate taking out both the dogs and Capra himself. Not only does that ledge make it easier to hit him with downward plunges but apparently he also can't reach you from below. Suspicious.

Someone also said something earlier about sending Ornstein through a window or some crazy thing. Not sure what to make of that one.

I think he just recognizes its strengths and what it brings to the table, and realizes that some others really dig that sort of stuff even if he doesn't. His main beef with it also seems to be that he, like many, just thinks it's too hard. Otherwise he didn't seem to have a great deal of criticisms. Ultimately it's just a score, doesn't mean too much.

Demon firesage is a pain the arse to stay behind compared to the stray demons.

It constantly jumps backwards towards the walls when I try to sprint behind it, so I have to distance my self from it to avoid the AoE attack which then leads to it doing it's leaping attack which changes direction in mid-air to hit you, kind of annoying.

rusted ring makes u run on swamps.

okay if i can run the poison accumulation shouldn't be that bad.

equip. RUN

WTF. POISON Accumulation is just as fast if ur walking

Those damn glitches. I'm running through the garden, random +2000 pops up, cat ring becomes worthless >_<
I even killed everybody before and reloaded after joining the forest hunters.

Gargoyles are as tough as ever, more so with only a whip... but I am really pissed because gold pine resin wore after like 30 seconds at most. Wtf is up with that?

The very first area on the roof where the Golem is throughing the Fire boulders at you, theres a break in the wall. Drop off the side of the wall and there's a bonfire.

How do you guys feel in general about some of the more cryptic stuff in this game? Do you think it was deliberate by FROM to force this kind of communal coming together to help each other? For instance, I absolutely never would have found the Darkroot Garden bonfire behind the breakable wall, or that bonfire in Sen's.

famousmortimer said:

It's on top of Sen's Fortress on the outside towards the end of the level, a bit hidden. When you're at the top you'll see a part of the wall that's broken, and right underneath is a bonfire.

Love how the levels connect in this game.

Going through
Tomb of the Giants
, it's dark as hell then all of a sudden I get a glimpse of light. I get closer and I'm up above looking down on
Ash Lake
. However they managed to make this connect... amazing.

EDIT: omfg...

The first time I saw the flying anor londo cutscene i got goosebumps... this game is fucking gigantic. Is there a complete map of how all the areas in this game fit together. I'm wondering if they actually fit together or if there is some impossible geography going on. Wasn't there a cloth map that came with the japanese CE?

When you review a game your'e not giving your own opinion of it. You're critiquing the game, for other people who will likely see the review. So he did what a critic should do, and recognized the quality of the game without personally liking the subject matter / gameplay / control / sound etc...

Whoa whoa whoa. Just got invaded for the second time ever (and second time within 30 minutes). Dude invaded just as I rested at the Bonfire in the sewers. Pretty bad place to invade a person when they have the Drake Sword and AoE fire spells. But then I noticed I couldn't lock on to him. What's with this?! Is that normal? The guy strafed me easily and backstabbed me for a quick win. Hard to fight back against someone with a lock on you when you can't lock on to them. =\

Edit: Darth Viking88, whoever you are, I hate you.
