It is strange, I got 2 pvp fights earlier today and now that I am looking for them nothing is happening.

Any help on the forest covenant? Did I overlevel?

Did anyone else find the other way of getting into the Tomb of the Giants (without fighting Pinwheel)?
If you nestle in the coffin in the area where the titanite demon is in the catacombs for long enough someone will close it over. When it opens you're somewhere in the Tomb of Giants. I don't know where since I had the feeling that I wasn't supposed to be there yet and it was pitch dark so I hopped back in the coffin to return to the catacombs. But it didn't seem to look like the bit of the Tomb of the Giants that I ventured into after the Pinwheel fight.

That's a dead end only used for a
boss fight and/or covenant
. What I want to know what happens if
you attack Nito when not entering as a boss fight.

It could be that in Demon's Souls some of those were originally legitimate oversights, but they decided to keep them in anyway to give players a way of essentially bypassing those boss fights if they simply wanted to progress. In particular I'm not sure some of the stuff like Flamelurker getting caught in geometry was intended.

I do however think in Dark Souls that it's more consciously designed. On some level some bosses seem to have been designed to mitigate some of the Demon's Souls cheese, particularly stuff like being able to plug a boss from afar with arrows from a spot they can't reach you (cept maybe Capra with the ledge). Most bosses in Dark Souls seem to be a lot more aggressive about getting into melee range. But on another level the From devs added other more unique and purposefully designed ways of easily taking some of them out. In some cases it's pretty definitive, and in others it's a possibility.

Being accidents really is the most reasonable explanation, and it probably never would have occurred to me that it might have been intentional were it not for the whole poison/plague disparity. Still, occasionally I wonder. If I were From, though, the "It was all intentional and we put those things there for the wimps in the audience" explanation is totally the one I'd use, even if it wasn't even remotely true.

I do really like the intentional optional ways of beating some bosses, though there's still some pretty straightforward ways of cheesing Dark Souls that I really doubt were intentional. I'm pretty sure From didn't intend casting Iron Flesh and then just straight going apeshit in the boss' grille to be nearly so effective.

It takes you to
the end area where the boss is. You can't fight him that way but you can join his covenant.

I originally thought this was better than Demon's Souls but later in the game, my opinion has changed. Mostly not because of levels or bosses.

1. Weapons not scaling well. My lighting Iaito +5 will pretty much always be better than a maxed regular Iaito no matter what my dex is and this means your damage won't be increasing on NG+.

2. Fucked up Ridiculous items in pvp.

3.Glitches that have also ruined pvp.

4. Covenant with red orb not gotten until basically right before the end of the game. Do you even keep your covenant on NG+?

Still the best game I've played this year though.

OMG! Please don't tell me I'm screwed until NG+. So I was doing some exploring in the The Catacombs. When I fell down into one of the holes. I had no choice but to drop down in the pinwheel cavern.. Long story short, they gave chase and cornered me near the blacksmith. I died, and it seems at the very last moment so did the balcksmith :(

Please tell me he'll be back. I'm not responsible for his death right?

Where's the bonfire in Sen's fortress? I feel like I've explored every corner, haven't seen a boss, a knight, or a bonfire. Missing a path obviously, any ideas

No idea, that's where I'm stuck right now.

Once you step back outside on the top of Sen's Castle start to head upstairs. I believe it is the second set of stairs if you look to the right you can see the wall is broken. Drop off and you will land on the bonfire.

The area of effect slow spell is such a piece of shit. It would make more sense if it affected people in range at the time of casting. As it is now it's massively overpowered.

Can someone help me? I have to get the 20,000 souls so I can grind for that stupid key so I can grind for more souls. Right now I have 2000 souls, is there a better way than using the dragon/bridge trick?

BTW when can a warp to different bonfires?

Hahahahaha!

Still cant get myself to pick this up, I was really close today but thought about Demon Souls which I finished and changed my mind, getting old.

Just beat
Tomb of the Giants
.

Gotta say you guys reaction to that area made it seem way harder than it actually was. It wasn't long at all and while the darkness made it tense, once you get the
lantern
it gets a lot easier. Even before then the enemies have a tiny aggro range, and their eyes glow in the dark making it easy to spot them before they attack as long as you move slowly. Overall I enjoyed that level just as much as any of the others.

Now off to
Demon Ruins
:(

The way I farmed those souls without pulling my hair out was to simply run through the undead zone all the way down to the Depths, and then run back up. The souls piled up at a decent rate and I didn't hate my life doing it.

Also the Crystal Ring Shield feels a bit overpowered. It does twice the damage of whatever is equipped in your right hand, so its potential maximum power is off the charts, and it's basically a long-range attack. The attack's hit to durability isn't too significant since it's cheaply repaired and you can just buy dozens of repair powders anyway to use it constantly and just fix it out in the field.

On some level it's a cool weapon to unleash but I don't like using it since it basically feels like the Drake Sword equivalent for the second half of the game. :P

I just love little touches that make the world feel consistent. Like in Sen's, the boulders are being dropped by a big golem dude stacking them above the platform.

The world is really so fantastic in this series.

well I beat it. 70 hours, level 88, no using a guide or anything, just went wherever I felt like it. the first 2/3 are really great, but everything passed Anor was quite a big drop off in terms of design. Instead of intricate dungeons like Sens Fortress it's 'throw a bunch of giant monsters at you'. Naturally you'll lure 1 away at a time and move on, rinse and repeat. I wish they would've taken another year and got the later areas as good as the others, or just remove them in general. I really have no desire to NG+ because I don't want to go through certain shit areas like Demon Ruins again. I would say at its best it's better than Demon Souls, but ultimately it's not as good because it doesn't sustain it.

lol I'm finding this to be true of all the most hated areas so far. It seems like if people have been complaining about an area it makes me mentally prepared and therefore I don't end up hating it as much.

BTW what's up with this guy? If you kill him, the boulders are still being dropped anyway? When I went back I expected to be able to run up one of the boulder paths, and a boulder ran right over me lol

No, but he respawns when you use a bonfire.

Balls!

I use pyromancy a bit and pumped a lot into int (It's my highest stat by a country mile) thinking the same thing.

I do use spells as well. Int helps them, right?

Finished the Lost Izalith last night. I heard so many bad things about it and thought to myself, just get it over with quick - how much worse can it be?
n
What a piece-of-shit stage. I thought Demons Souls was perfect except for its short length so I really wanted Dark Souls to be substantially bigger, but this game would have been better off without this stage. They just decided to dump several dozens of huge ass monsters that fuck up your camera and it is a crapshoot trying to kill them. The decision to make them non-respawnable and so numerous is like the devs telling the player, just kill them 1 by 1, even if it means you have to die. It's incredibly tedious and it's like they have mistakened difficulty with annoying repetition.

People say the boss is easy. He is easy if you can actually see when he's about swipe at you can make you fall to your death. Not to mention the whole gimmick to this boss is neither creative nor fun.

The zone before this, the Demon's ruins, was not the best area in the game either but compared to the Lost Izalith, it feels like an extremely polished stage.

Play the game? It's not like Sen's Fortress is a maze. There is only one way that leads up.

I can't find it. I've run through dead end after dead end over and over. The place is empty and I have no flasks because of the damn boulders.

LOL I never saw that staircase in the boulder room.

Yeah I almost missed it my first time too. This is important though, before you proceed, make sure the lever is facing the opposite side of the staircase room you just found. This allows you to get a really good ring if you follow the boulder down.

The bonfire in Sens
After you get past all the rooms with the swinging blades you will go through a white misty gateway. This brings you to an area you climb up while a guy is throwing bombs at you. After you head up a staircase or two you'll come to a platform with a bunch of black charred marks on it. Instead of continueing upwards, go right to the edge of the area, peer downward. You can drop down and there is a bonfire right there. Don't fuck around too long as he is always throwing bombs at you.

That probably doesn't make sense since it's hard to describe. Honestly I wouldn't have found it but my brother was watching me play and he's past that area. It's really not noticeable at all.

Anyone know, How do you farm Eye of Death and how many does it take to
to level up the covenant enough to get the second miracle
?

3 in catacombs near the coffin to Nito.
3 in tomb of the giants near bonfire
3 sold by patches if you told him you weren't a cleric and forgave him.

Sprint to the one on the right. Parry and kill or block his sword enough so that he falls off. Kicking/Force miracle works too.

Man, haha. I am totally out of touch with the people who had trouble there.

ccp_is_king was saying earlier that the problem is that if you go up and to the left, you aggro both. I only went up to the right when I did it and temporarily aggro'd the one on the left, but he ultimately was out of range when I got in melee range of the other. After finishing him I went over to kill the left archer and get loot.

So, I guess, go up and to the right - not left - is the answer to that puzzle. Also the way forward is on the right side anyway.

It gets worse.. Apparently I am being held accountable. I've done nothing wrong all game. Now I owe 186000 souls for absolution. WTF??? I didn't even kill him.

Can you get in trouble for pulling the pull on an invader? That's about the worst thing I've done all game.

Ugh, I'm in desperate need of humanity. I'm at the first bonfire in blighttown and I can't seem to get through it alone.

My suggestion is enter Blighttown from Valley of the Drakes. Take the ladders down to the swamp, go to bonfire which will be on your left, then run north east to the boss room and help others do it, gain humanity. Use it then kill NPC invader and then go do the boss with her.

If by "pulling the pull" you mean signing off PSN/XBL, then yeah you can do that without any harm. It's a shitty thing to do though :P

I'm on the dual bosses and I almost killed them the first time around. Had fatass down to a sliver of health. Smoosh. Rage.

Back I go.

Yea, when you reach the square block in the middle go around it to the right, not left. Then right again at the end.

If that doesnt help bring poison arrows and stand before the center column and you can snipe the one on the left and he cant hit you

So, just beat the Capral demon. Go back up to the bridge and suddenly the drake like falls off or something. +10000 souls, don't see anything else other than the 2 plots that were previously in front of him.

This normal? Sure seems like something glitches on me.

Just want to point out that the battle isn't quite over after you get rid of one. I also want to add that it's tougher - but more rewarding both loot and achievement-wise - to take out the fatty first. You'll be finding out why that is.

That is all.

P.S. also, just concentrate on taking out one of them.

spells that use the wand like soul arrow. yes, their attack power is based on your INT.

NO!!!! I put down my controller and hit the guy who you pay the absolution fee to by mistake. I immediately quit the game. I hope he's not still angry.

And what's with having to pay the entire absolution fee in one shot. No way am I going to be able to carry that amount around with me.

Yeah, I killed the skinny fuck first and almost killed electro fatty. I can't wear that armor until NG+ anyway...lol.

Damn. Can't believe I was grinding for the large shards in the Depths. So much faster to get it the swamp.

Also just discovered the area beneath the graveyard. Can't believe I missed it all these times.

How does this keep happening to people? :P

I discovered that the ninja dude in the forest covenant can fall off of the map just by his normal pathing, which flags you as being a traitor to the covenant. Luckily I was done with them, but at least I figured out why it happened. Found a glowing pile of loot next to a ravine.

I really don't know. There are probably at least 1000 posts saying "accidentally hit the npc" in OT1 and OT2 :lol

I always press start if I'm going to idle near an NPC for some reason.
