Dark Souls PC 1080p. Confirmed, like, for real.

I get the impression GTA4 isn't THAT bad of a port anyway, I'm sure they could've optimized better but it really shined then on Core i7s, and now I imagine a lot of people have those or more advanced versions rather than dual cores. Now SR2, that's a porting fuckup beyond almost all others recently.

If you run GTA 4 on settings equal to the 360 even a moderate PC obliterates console performance.
a moderate 'gaming' PC probably, but definitely not a moderate 'PC' [iirc, one of the main issues for example was that it was heavily bounded by the CPU and couldn't take advantage of better graphic cards]

PC System requirements:

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2...rements-reveal-multiplayer-microphone-support

OS: Windows XP , Windows Vista, Windows 7, or newer
Processor: 2.6 GHz Dual-Core
Memory: 1 GB (XP), 2GB (Vista/7)
Hard Disk Space: 4 GB
Video Card: 512 MB RAM, ATI Radeon 4850 or higher, NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT or higher
DirectX: 9.0c
Sound: Direct Sound Compatible
Additional: Multiplayer requires microphone headset support

Oops didn't realize the EB listing posted already had these too. Sorry for the bump.

So, let's recap.
  • moderate system requirements
  • unlocked resolution
  • unlocked framerate
  • anti-aliasing option
  • mouse/kb and gamepad support

This already sounds better than many highly regarded PC ports.
Really makes you wonder about the pages and pages of negativity surrounding the port. Personally, I feel like ever since it was announced there has been a faction on GAF that tried to find fault with it at any cost. (Probably a lot of overlap with faction that argued vehemently against a PC port during the petition)

  • I think that had to do with everything after the the initial announcement sounding like an absolute disaster. GFWL is never going to sit well with people, but if everything else is OK then it's worth supporting.

So there is a confirmation on unlocked framerate and AA?

Apologies. I haven't been following this thread too closely.

I want to get on the EB games offer but I also want to have Dark Souls pop up on my Steam friend's list... d:

GFWL games don't offer a code to enter on steam right? I usually spend my money digitally when I get games for PC.

The AA option was reported multiple times in the E3 build. The only confirmation for the unlocked framerate is a forum post, but the same poster also reported the EB bundle before it became common knowledge.

I'll just get the physical version and make a link in Steam. People will still see when you play it.

I wish I hadn't already beat the game on PS3...

So they didn't listen.

Then they shouldn't complain as well when this bombs.

They didn't give a shit about all the fans who specifically asked them to not use GFWL, so yeah I guess they already lost thousands and thousands of sales and should blame themselves only when this bombs.

The effect of their awful PR messaging should not be blamed on the potential audience.

My main problem has always been GFWL. I won't be buying it no matter how technically good it is, the apparent shittiness of the port has just been a joke.

That's true. I guess I could do that... (:

Thanks for the reply.

Hah, I know how you feel but I'm still pretty excited about the new content. I'll probably end up purchasing the DLC on the PS3 when the times comes around as well.

One of the first articles after the announcement spoke of no change in resolution and no 60 fps. I think its acceptable to be wary after reading something like that.

People just want a good game to get a good port.

Import it? It's not like PC does that silly "region lock" thing.

I could, though given how AU games are incredibly expensive I was banking on it being much cheaper. Not that it's "expensive" given the sheer amount of stuff you get for the money, but still...

Sold my 360 copy in place.

Hopefully it comes out at a 40$ price point also.

The low Requirements also give me a lot of hope. Even if they didn't improve on it too much, natural brute forcing should make it where it will always have a constant framerate

The only problem GFWL really poses is that if people exploit the system to fuck up the game for people. My experience with GTA IV multiplayer was bad, lots of hackers, regular players were using Rockstar IDs to get achievements. If they hack the humanity stuff then they can enter players games and ruin it for you.

And given how problematic it is to patch via GFWL if From decide to not patch, the game could remain fucked up and that'd be a shame.

Unlocked resolution was confirmed? Thank god, on account of those requirements, 60FPS should come easily.

So it's only GFWL and we're done here. Make it happen Bamco!

If this does any good on PC, you think it'll make From Software more aware of the platform's viability?
If it gets them to release an Armored Core with full Steamworks integration, I'll buy multiple copies.

But my hopes are at ground zero.

That's an uncompressed PC version of a game. Not an Xbox 360 port with some added knobs and dials.
Most people wish they had designed for the pc in the first place, that way we can have a PC version with better textures, features like scaling ui or hiding the ui, quicksaving, quickloading, etc

Some people also wish for a pony.
(Also, the game already "quicksaves", and loading of any kind would break the game design)

At release gta4 on PC was the most broken game ever

Your "recap" leaves out the fact that From originally stated that the resolution would be locked at the consoles' and so would the framerate. Maybe that's why you're so bewildered that people would criticize the game based on the facts available at the time.

You might also want to look at statements from this thread, like the game having framerate issues at 720p, as being more substantive than the "moderate system requirements." There is, after all, no standard for what minimum system requirements mean, other than that the game will run.

Well, at least it's broken in an amusing way like RDR... partially anyway. Don't think there was anything bunny about SR2's problems unless you consider the minimum system requirements a hilarious prank.

They didn't directly say this. They said not to expect 60fps, and some journalist reported that some things that you would expect out of pc version might not be there. Resolution comments were clarified to be about textures.

They never stated that quite so clearly. A confused interview translated from Japanese could be construed to state that, and people were all too eager to jump on it despite of how ridiculous the idea of a resolution lock in a 3D PC game is. Just read the old thread. Extraordinary claims like that should require extraordinary evidence, and I believe they wouldn't have been accepted quite so readily if people weren't already looking for reasons to hate the port.

What about the reports of it running at 60 FPS on a 6000 series AMD GPU? Those seem at least as reliable as the rumours about framerate issues.
