Dark Souls PC 1080p. Confirmed, like, for real.

I'm so torn over this fucking game.

On one hand I want more Japanese games on PC and especially this series... I don't want anybody to use a system that hasn't been updated since 2011.

Bumping this thread with some updates:

You can now preorder the game at Steam, 40 American Bucks. No preorder bonuses, nothing.

They updated the requirements:

OS: Windows XP , Windows Vista, Windows 7, or newer
Processor: AMD Phenom II X2 545 3.0 Ghz - Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 3.0 Ghz
Memory: 2 GB
Hard Disk Space: 4 GB
Video Card: ATI Radeon HD 4870 - GeForce 9800 GTX+
DirectX®: 9.0c
Sound: Direct Sound Compatible
Additional: Online play requires software installation of and log-in to Games For Windows - LIVE

The bolded part was pretty much known, sadly.

Anyway, will buy.

so this confirm the Steam version will use GFWL. Dark Souls PC with gfwl = worthless port.

Bamco and From did not listen to the fans at all and did not fix their mistake so I'm not buying this.

Batman: AC used GFWL too, also worthless port?

Crappy, yes. But far from "worthless".

FROM listened, Bamco called the shots if you read interviews you'll see what happened.

However I understand, don't buy it and vote with your wallet. I'll support them.

i'm all over this port. it'll look and run better than the ps3 version that i've been playing, plus it'll have the extra content ...so yes, i'm buyin it.

gfwl isn't an issue for me. i've played various other games that use it (arkham city, arkham asylum, fallout3, etc) and haven't had any serious issues ...so big deal.

i'm surprised that its relatively cheap, to be honest, at $39.99. i was expecting at least $49.99 ...or maybe even $59.

so @ $39 ...that's a nice price.

I get the GFW hate, I really do. This is Dark Souls, though, and I'm willing to deal with it in exchange for better framerate and Dat New Content. And like was said above, Batman:AA used GFW and, at least in my experience, that worked just fine on PC.

40 bucks is a pretty decent price. Will still wait until the last minute to preorder, but I'm content with that pricetag. I hope this is the last GFWL game I ever buy. Fuck GFWL, but I love what FROM did with DeS too much not to support them in their baby steps towards my favorite platform.

Deleted my save. It's the reason why I haven't started Arkham City yet. I want to finish it in as few sessions as possible so I don't run into the same shit again.

I already have Dark Souls for my PS3 and I was going to buy it for the PC too to support hopefully more ports but GFWL is a deal breaker for me. These devs need to learn to just use Steam minus GFWL and be done with it.

I am a little disappointed there are no TF2 pre-order incentives attached. It's a sickness, I admit.

That really sucks. I have the ps3 version of AC, but AA never gave me problems with saves. Still, I understand your apprehension.

Great price for the US! No reason to pre-order it, though, so I'll just wait until it's released. If they do a pre-load option, I'll pre-order it then.

Also, remember that GFWL is part of a big metagame of suffering and anger. Just like Dark Souls.

You don't lose just souls. Also your 100+ hours save.

I never had an issue with GFWL, not even with Arkham City, that actually deleted saves. I wish this isn't the first one :|

Have you tried Gamesave Manager?

No, I haven't. Maybe I should next time I run into the same issue. Luckily I finished AA in 4 gaming sessions after that incident. But yeah, it's unacceptable and the reason why I never buy GFWL games over 10€.

Thanks for the suggestion anyway!

Shame about the GFWL confirmation, guess I'll just pick the game on a sale later down the road.

Glad some of you guys never had big issues with GFWL, I never had them either (outside of a few small updates issues).
With that said the platfrom does suffers from big issues (most notably saves corruption), being lucky so far not to have suffered from them doesn't make them any less of an issue. I don't find such issues acceptable so I won't buy the game at full price even though I wish to support it.

Hopefully your (and my) luck doesn't run out with Dark Souls.

Also good to see they had the good sense of not charging full-price for the game, not a great price for a nearly one year old port, but considering it has new content it's sensible enough.

I think it's a must have program, for all games, not just GFWL ones. You can save directly to dropbox. Having your own custom cloud is pretty nice.

Since I was one of the first and most vocal advocates for Dark Souls on PC here on NeoGAF, and since my personal experience with GFWL hasn't been that bad... I'll try to jump in at launch or very shortly thereafter. I hope there won't be any negative issues.

I just want to know if the game saves are tied to GFWL and if there'a a workaround.

I think I might get it though, granted the PC community pretty much had to beg to get this game over, the developers are Japanese so PC is like some foreign object to them and they tried to make the best of it, you have to admire them for telling us how it was and actually delivering a product.

I'm worried about this. Mostly for the item hacking. It seems it was pretty easy and widespread on the 360 version. GFWL encripts the savegames and decrypts them when you play (as far as I know).

$40? Fuck yes. I was expecting at least $50 or $60. I am happy. I've had some bad luck with GFWL, but it's Dark Souls... I'll live.

except for when it eats your level 100 soul dude, nah it's cool guys, GFWL is fine

That's okay to use once a month or every few months just to be sure, but every time you play the game? that's unacceptable. That's the whole point of having multiple save files with a PC game, so shit like that doesn't happen.

You can literally open up cheatengine on any game that doesn't use some form of cheat protection like punkbuster and have a gay old time.

Welcome to PC Gaming

I'm still torn on GW2, I want it no matter what eventually but the next BWE is going to be what shifts me from day one or sale. They had a lot to clean up and polish and tweak last event.

Dark Souls I'd probably wait for a sale on normally, but it's one of those rare times where I feel compelled to support it. I want the sequels on PC, too.

wat

gsm backs up to your dropbox automatically, you never have to "use" it because you're always using it.

If you're in the next BWE doesn't that mean you already preordered?

And you'd be correct in your reservations as it deleted my Arkham City save as well. Beware of any sort of internet outage while playing a GFW game (single player included).

Yes, you are right. Didn't think about hex-editing. Online in this game is pretty much fucked :(
I'm not even really talking about hex editing, I'm talking about editing values in memory.

for example: Finding your hp and locking it (harder if the game never specifies a number value), finding the container that increases when you get souls to get as many as you want and to lock that too and buy everything, finding the value for your strength or whatever and give yourself 999 of it and lock it there to one shot shit. Finding the value for enemy HP and changing it to 1hp.

Without knowing all that much about GFWL standards, I hope it secures the multiplayer by default since I have a feeling that From will not bother with PC-specific anti-cheat methods.

Man... I sure am glad I don't give a damn about the multiplayer component of Dark Souls.
