Dark Souls PC 1080p. Confirmed, like, for real.

Considering $15 of DLC is included, $40 is a good price.

Is that what they are saying the DLC will cost? I guess i will just get it on PC for sure then. Might as well as then I will (hopefully) get a better version than my ps3 one which was awesome none the less.

$40 is exactly what I expected. That's the typical price for a late PC port of a month's-old console game with DLC included. I think Assassin's Creed II and Red Faction Guerrilla did the same thing, to name a few.

Yeah, I still own the game on ps3 as well, but it will run a hell of a lot better on PC, I can use an Xbox controller instead of that shitty Dualshock, and the bonus DLC is nice too. $40 is acceptable.

And, most importantly, I'm supporting FROM Software and Namco bringing titles to PC. I rarely do something like that, but this is a great opportunity.

It's easily one of the games I'm most looking forward to this year but I don't have the confidence in the port to preorder. It would actually take a pretty great deal for me to put my money down before I get some feedback.

$40 is a bit much, but the phrase "vote with your wallet" has never rang truer. Pre-ordered.

But $40 isn't even remotely a bit much. Dark Souls is one of the best games ever made, and this is the PC version that everyone begged and pleaded for, with new content on top of that. It was worth every penny of a $60 purchase less than a year ago, and $40 with extra content is an absolute steal. Glad you pre-ordered anyway.

Yeah but Games for Windows Live ughh.

I'll deal with GFWL if I have to, but it's a disappointing hurdle to have to go through. Like going to a store that's got the stuff you want but the cashiers are all imbeciles.

Well it's a PC version but not the one everyone begged and pleaded for.

Admittedly I think with everything coming out the main sticking point is just GFWL. I don't think it'd be fair to have expected treatment like Deus Ex: Human Revolution or Max Payne 3 got, and personally I mainly just wanted a PC port for higher framerates and resolution, especially with Blighttown, and while it's not a platformer it's still a game designed around a game pad that's probably going to be somewhat clumsy with keyboard and mouse. But GFWL, man, it's not really a big surprise given the online dependence the series has and how this apparently makes it easiest, but it's such a stupid piece of crap. I'm afraid of changing my password again lest I go through another nightmare of trying to make the dumb software realize who I am.

You aren't, and we don't even know if it will be a problem yet anyway.
While I admittedly can see corrupt saves and whatnot being purely case-by-case, my most recent problem (changing email/password and being unable to log in until I deleted my profile, then needing to do it again because it wasn't accepting the password again for some reason) seems like the kind of problem that's going to be in any GFWL game. I'm hoping/expecting Xbox Live in Windows 8 is smarter on that front at least, given how I sign in with my Windows ID anyway.
Well I mean that's just assumed. No one wants GFWL.
Achievement whores tend to.
Maybe you guys should have been emphatic if it was so important to you.
I think most of us just kinda assumed most developers were backing off. They have not only made it unappealing to consumers but to developers as well thanks to patching fees and certification turn around.

GFWL is like being told by the person you're about to go down on that they have something you can catch from them. It makes most back off.

The Dark Souls/Demon's Souls community will not stand for gamebreaking GFWL bullshit. If it fucks up the game in any way, there will be hell to pay. Riots will break out in the streets.

FROM/Namco Bandai will not risk ruining the reputation of their most successful new IP in...... ever.

Can retail copies be activated on Steam?
90% sure not. It's not a Steamworks game, though GMG getting Steam copies makes me wonder. If you want Steam, stick to those two for now.

They're already risking it by making the game run with GFWL. Maybe GFWL will work ok, but clearly they like to play with fire.

It was unreasonable for us to assume that it'd be GFWL, its a terrible system that everyone hates and it seems to be on its way out. If we had thought it was a possibility, trust me, we would have made it loud and clear.

I'm just worried that I'll lose my internet connection while saving and then BAM, corrupted save file, hundred hours of progress gone.

Or it'll just decide not to work out the gate.

Or a windows patch will change folder permissions and completely fuck up a windows live installtion.

Or I'll get caught in an infinite login loop because of a fucked update.

The list goes on really.

Why do you think it was such a remote possibility? Just last year Batman: Arkham City used it in late November. That's a huge profile game released only a little more than a month before you guys had your big petition.

Also, you didn't have to assume it would use it. You just had to state clearly that you didn't want it since it was a real possibility and it's so incredibly important to some of you.

I think it's fine to be upset about GFWL. Just don't say "this isn't the game we begged and pleaded for" since you guys didn't actually include this hugely important caveat in your petition.

Japanese developer with very little PC experience. GFWL is reportedly the easist way to port online code from an existing 360 game.

I'm in, this time. But I'll be sure to back up my save files regularly (<3 Gamesave Manager <3) and I'll think twice if the next game sticks with GFWL.

Heads up!

Green man gaming has the game on stock, Steam key included. You can use their 20% off voucher and also credit from other games that you may have from them (Hacker Evolution, Disciples). I just got mine for 27 bucks. Great deal.

i thought this game was just Games for Windows Live? aka, no Steamworks.

confusion.

You will have to use GFWL no matter where you purchase it. A game can be on Steam and require GFWL, why are you confused ?

Look:

This game requires a free Steam account to play.

Namco Bandai uses Steamworks for most of their games, Dark Souls uses GFWL but by the looks of it, it will be distributed primarily using Steam, and not that Windows something service.

You mean the XCOM voucher? COSYO-UDIDN-TGET1 is invalid

I'm in, I would have paid $60 for this again, regardless of a "superior port", I'm perfectly fine with playing it with pure console settings and flaws. GFWL sort of bothers me, but I've rarely ever had problems with the few games I've used it for, but I do wish it simply used Steamworks.

So, on another note, I remember reading that a "headset" is required? Maybe it was a misprint, I only ask because I'm lending my Astro headset at the moment until my cousin gets back from being out to sea in Nov, in the Navy. So will a regular 360 headset plugged into a wired 360 controller work fine?

its just that typically when a game used GFWL, and bought from an outlet other than Steam ...you typically wouldn't be able to register that game to your Steam account.

like for example, when i bought Bulletstorm off Direct2Drive ...it uses GFWL, and there was no way to register it to a Steam account (i eventually got it registered to my Origin account thru EA). but in the beginning, you just would download it from D2D, install, and launch the game on its own.

the only other time i experienced a GFWL game being able to be registered to a Steam account was back when AMD had that free offer of Dirt3. it used GFWL, but they gave you a Steam key to bind it to your Steam account. that was the first time i ever saw something like that with a GFWL game ...so maybe Dark Souls is the same. i dunno ...its just rare to see that.

i just want to make sure that i would be 100% getting a Steam key if i was gonna buy it from GMG. i don't want to use their Capsule client to play games ...Steam and Origin are enough for me. i'd pay the extra to buy it on Steam, rather than have to use another launcher.

It doesn't require a headset, that was just a mistake in the system requirements.
