Dated visuals you still think look amazing

Basically every Model 2 and Model 3 game.

Also, the PC games Little Big Adventure 2, Esctatica for the oblong thing, and N64 ClayFighter for the claymation (and you know what? Sculptor's Cut is pretty decent. Slow as hell, but decent). A lot of other choices have already been said by others, like PD Saga and surely MGS.

EDIT: I refuse to list 2D games b/c I refuse to fall into this belief that 2D games are inherently more visually dated than 3D ones. Hell a lot of 2D games are more timeless than their 3D peers, but this isn't time for a 2D vs. 3D thing.

"timeless aesthetic"

/watches a sport cars driving around normal generic city by night and normal roads.

...

ok.
You obviously don't appreciate what a milestone this game was for the PS1 visually, but ok.

I keep posting the same Ridge Racer Type 4 gifs every time a similar thread pops up, man it just looks so fucking great to this day. It just has a timeless aesthetic.

And to this day, it still has my favorite GUI design in any game. Readable, clean, unique and gorgeous. What more can you ask for?

That's amazing, thought it was an early PS2 game at a glance.

Rogue-Squadron-2.jpg

Yes, indeed. Haven't found arcadey-space-shooty gameplay to replace it yet either.

Quake 3 (this is QL but it looks the same)

Much moreso in motion than in screenshots though. Quake 3 in motion is just smooth as hell.

The UI is so ughhh!!

Almost every Sega arcade game running on the following arcade systems:

Sega Space Harrier
Sega OutRun
Sega X Board
Sega Y Board
Sega System 32
Sega Model 1
Sega Model 2
Sega Model 3
Sega NAOMI
Sega Hikaru
Sega NAOMI 2
Sega Chihiro

Walking off into the distance at Opassa Beach in Chrono Cross is still breathtaking for me. Some of the late-era PS1 games were fucking gorgeous.

I like you. If you'd also mentioned the perfect soundtrack I'd propose on the spot.

Please indy devs. Please make more god damn 3d 32-bit games in HD. I'm sick of all this space gibberish with dots and circles.

I will always love WoW and its art style.

Dragon Quest 8 for me.

Looks even better emulated too, truly an amazing game

This gif doesn't come close to doing the game justice

Jesus that looks incredible

I came in to say Starfox SNES. Glad it's already been mentioned.

I still feel like a return to the flat shaded polygon aesthetic is where the series should be headed. That look is amazing. Imagine that look with millions of glorious, flat shaded clean edge polygons.

I suppose I can just make it myself once Dreams for PS4 comes out.

Currently playing through the original Splinter Cell's on Xbox. It looks amazing at times, with attention to detail some modern games don't even get.

Crash Bandicoot in my head looks like Uncharted 4. In my head I mean like when im playing it :) love it, damnnn i love it!

Environment was so well done will what they had to use, crash is a terrible design but was well realised. Great example.

I don't get what you guys remember though? Everything looks the same as I remember it, I'm amazed that people don't remember pixel structure in 16bit games or the frankly awful quads and texture shimmer of the ps1.

But like great films, these limitations forced devs to create interesting games and scenarios whilst letting the player use their imagination.

RE says otherwise, people want twitch shooters.

REmake Remastered sold well though. There's room for both styles.

Its probably tied between that eras pre rendered backdrops and Sega's Model 2 and 3 games for my favorite art styles ever. They will never be dated to me.

Came in expecting some shitposts, but some great games have been mentioned here. Special kudos for Art of Fighting 3. That game looked amazing and had some giant ass sprites. It gets forgotten about with Garou looking so great, but AoF3 really was something.

Oh you and I are gonna be pals for a while. This so much. Type 4 is one of my faves, and it still holds up nicely.

Final Fantasy XII. The game's only 9 years old so it's not as dated as other examples in this thread but it still looks amazing. I'm still impressed that Square got the visuals they did out of a PS2 game. And seeing the emulated screens really shows how nice the assets are.

Still waiting for that remaster.

I'm playing through MGS1 again at the moment, and while it's certainly rough by today's standards, I still think all the attention to detail is incredible. I never saw anything like it back in the day.

Soul Calibur on Dreamcast still impresses me. And to this day, Jet Set Radio still feels like the future.

Another vote for World of Warcraft. It's mixture of Warhammer and He-Manesque art style has always been incredibly appealing visually to me and they do some incredible settings and uses of color.

Blackrock Mountain as well is still one of the most visually pleasing settings in the game and I think most every dungeon and raid in it still looks good. Except MC.
