Dated visuals you still think look amazing

PC games like Patrician 3 still look amazing to me

Nothing else looked this good in 1999. I'd say Shenmue still looked impressive right up until half way through the PS360 era.

Gta 4. People complain it looked too gray or yellow but it still looks like an acceptable representation of NY to me.
Think the problem with GTA4 was that it used a very heavy blur filter to make everything blurry. The saturated lighting didn't help either but that was supposedly a thing that time last gen.

The city itself looks great, except for the traffic in Manhattan.

The sprites in Sega's superscaler arcade games still impress me. Of course, the effect is better in motion.

And the original Virtua Racing still looks and sounds amazing to me - again, best in motion. It looks incredibly smooth and has a great sense of speed.

Ugh. It's downright criminal that we're getting a scaled down mobile/3DS port (or is that remake?) instead of the HD remaster that the game truly deserves.

I usually prefer rereleases with support for modern features like trophies/achievements and whatnot. But this is one case where I'm really glad I held on to my PS2 copy. I really should look into how to set up a PS2 emulator to run it on my PC.

I have my PS2 copy but I don't have a PS2 around to play it on. I genuinely want to play Dragon Quest 8 again, my favorite RPG of all time, and I can't. Playing it on 3DS sounds crappy but I might do it.

I keep posting the same Ridge Racer Type 4 gifs every time a similar thread pops up, man it just looks so fucking great to this day. It just has a timeless aesthetic.

And to this day, it still has my favorite GUI design in any game. Readable, clean, unique and gorgeous. What more can you ask for?

I fully endorse this post for President of the United States in 2016.

Silpheed (SEGA CD). Totally blew me away at the time. Still pretty cool to see ships disintegrate into chunky triangles.

Not going to post any 2D games, because IMO if they looked good then, then they still look good.

Driver on the PS1 always appeals to me. The buildings, shops and backgrounds etc always look so inviting and mysterious to me. I wish I could go in them

Resi 1's environments are an ugly barren mess but by Resi 2 capcom had gotten it's shit together and the game genuinely still looks quite good.

I generally love the low poly ps1 aesthetic though. Of course there's tons of ugly ass muddy games as well. But it'd be a cool look to retro revive.

Halo: Combat Evolved stands out in my mind, so much so that I prefer it over the "Anniversary" artstyle.

Burnout 3: Takedown still looks great.

The genius of pixel art, tweened 2d art, cell/ cartoon shaded 3d, and prerendered assets is that they all age incredibly well.

I wish more games today look more like Megaman legends and Wind Waker. They have a bright, fun, and ever lasting feel that I don't think I will ever grow tired of.

I love it. I mean it looked amazing crisp and clean for the time, so I can see why it lasts.

Edit: my phone fucking hates me

I know Megaman Legends was already posted, but this is still worth sharing.

Rocket: Robot on Wheels still stands up really well, compared to a lot of N64 titles. The animation definitely has a lot to do with it. Also, the "vaseline effect" isn't so strong in this one.

Tomba! took advantage of the PS1's polygonal limitations to enhance a 2D landscape. I think the low poly environments, and the sharp sprites compliment each other nicely.
