So wait, first it was happening with Lynch, then he said he's out, and now he's back? How is this already more confusing than the season 2 ending?!

I controversially like Season 2 more than Season 1. It's less consistent than Season 1, but it's also nearly three times the length of Season 1. I think it has higher highs and lower lows than Season 1, and not all the side-character arcs are winners, but think besides these flaws and a 3-4 episode dip that's the lowpoint of the series (a section where they focus on the least interesting side character story arcs all at once for a few episodes), I think it really brought Twin Peaks to be what it is. I think some of the most memorable and stand-out moments in the show happen in the second season, I think the characters growth that happens in the season is mostly fantastic, I think the horror and strange factor see major improvements, and the final few episodes of Season 2 is the absolute high point of the series in my opinion.

Also, something I've thought about since the third season was announced was how they may handle some things. With David Lynch it can be hard to guess what direction he's going to choose to go, but there are some character arcs and just facts that are going to come into play by pulling this 25 years later.

Like with a few of the actors dead (series spoilers),
Bob being dead when he's so prominent and important in the first two seasons is one of the first big thoughts, how are they going to handle that one? One popular idea is since Bob is a spirit entity he may take on the form of Ray Wise, as that would also give a reason for Ray to come back onto the show, but is that what they're going to do? Another one that hits hard is Pete, he was among one of my favorite characters, but unfortunately his actor died a while ago. But for better or worse, the Season 2 cliffhangers gives a perfect explanation for his death with the whole bomb in the postal office, but I can already tell I'm going to be heart broken when his death in the series canon from the bomb is probably brought up. Especially as the actress for Catherine is still alive and looks like she's interested in being part, seeing her as an old woman who suffered the death of her husband she just finally started caring about again is going to be a bit hard I imagine for me, I found them oddly cute.

Those two stick out, but I find myself wondering how they're going to handle certain hanging plot threads and some of the actors being quite different 25 years later. On the other hand, many of the actors and actresses of Twin Peaks have aged surprisingly nicely in the last 25 years.

(was secretly hoping someone would make another post as I wrote this, but okay.)

Really VERY happy to hear this news!

I had a feeling it would get turned around - it seemed like way too much of the original cast and people had signed up and were enthusiastic for David Lynch having financial reservations to sink the whole thing.

But the really great thing is now it seems like we're gonna get more than 9 episodes, still all direced by David Lynch.

No you don't.

Sure you do. There's no denying that many episodes in the 2nd half of season 2 are silly and pointless, but the stuff towards the ending is very good and will likely be necessary to follow the story through in the new episodes.

I guess I'll be watching it again. Still, I wish they just left this alone to be honest, I'd rather have another Lynch film or a new series.

He hasn't exactly been giddy with the prospect of making more film or tv, at all, so this was probably a godsend in terms of getting any Lynch material on screen, period, nevermind Twin Peaks.

I wonder how he'll find editing films these days. I mean, I think the last thing he did was well before the Final Cut and RED age. All that new tech must be weird for him.

Great news anyway!

I wonder who will take up Don Davis' military role, the one person who had some background knowledge of the weird goings on.
Also, I wonder how they'll deal with Donna....

Jack Nance will be missed indeed...

Whaat. Don Davis is dead? :(. I loved him in everything he was in, he was great as the "military dude", Scully's dad, General Hammond and Major Briggs of course.
Thing is, I think the FBI itself has some knowledge of the crazy stuff. The Blue Rose seems to be code for "Paranormal shit is going down"

The movie is mildly interesting as a Lynch dreamscape nightmare but the story it tells in relation to the rest of Twin Peaks is ridiculously pointless. Like, I'm not sure why they even thought it was worth making.

Did you only watch the first 30 minutes? Because the rest of the movie shows what Laura was up to before she died. That is not pointless.

Regarding the quality, there are some pretty great Lynch moments but overall I'd say it's not that great of a movie. The stuff outside of Twin Peaks was bizarre and like you said, pointless. Though it may factor into the new season....maybe.

I guess I just find the Laura's life leading up to her death kinda uninteresting. I liked it more when it was a mystery, and knowing exactly what happened doesn't add a lot to the parts of Twin Peak's fiction that I find interesting.

For a guy that is super into meditation, and likely a pacifist, That was some strong power-move negotiation tactic.

Yes, Don Davis is a big one. Since Bobby's actor pushed for David Lynch to return, I assume he'll be back, and that's going to be another area it may be felt. Especially as his character seemed to be one of the few who actually knew a lot of what was going on. And this also brings to mind wondering how they're going to just handle some of the actors all of these years later who will return, with the 25 age gap, the kids being another big one. And while it seems most of the old cast are on-board to return, not all are.

He is missed, I feel a bit sad whenever I see him in old David Lynch movies and stuff, he had a level of charisma that made him very fun to watch, talented, and a certain lovable presence.

Great news! I was so bummed when they said it wasn't going to happen. I hoped they'd work something out but after it took a while I kind of lost hope.
Really can't wait!

Well imho most of the best material from Twin Peaks is all in Season 2. Lots of people LOVE Season 2, in particular the latter half after Evelyn Marsh leaves the picture. The "Stop watching after S1" crowd is just more vocal.
