Dead or Alive 5 or Tekken Tag 2? ;_;

Generally speaking in the past Dead or Alive games have been about throwing opponents into environmental hazards to see what happens. After you've seen it all there's nothing in terms of gameplay that keeps me engaged in the long run. I'd say pick up Tekken Tag 2 on launch unless it sucks like Tekken 6 and pick up Dead or Alive 5 on the cheap a few months later.

Depends on what you think sucks about tekken 6, tekken tag 2 might not be for you.

DOA5, since it'll probably be the more fresher experience. Then wait for all the Tekken preorder content to be free and pounce on that.

I'm buying both day 1.

Tekken for sure.

But you could get DOA5 at launch and enjoy online play. After a while, the community will inevitably get smaller, while Tekken will always have tons of people playing all the time, so even if you jump in later you'll never have problems finding opponents, even scrubs. I played T6 last week and still found people with 0 matches!

Loved Tekken 5 Dark Resurrection but hated everything in Tekken 6 except the gameplay. Tekken Tag 2 isn't a main entry in the series so stuff like story mode is out the window and my expectations are different as a result. As long as Tekken Tag 2 plays great, has tons of characters and features a solid online mode I'll be happy.

Oh wait, I guess you're talking about home console port? If you like the gameplay of 6 you'll probably like tag 2. Hoping for a solid netcode too.

I enjoy DOA more than Tekken and enjoy watching it more than Tekken. So my bias opinion will say Dead or Alive 5. However, if you have the money, get both.

There's just as many people playing DOA4 as there is people playing Tekken 6 online.

Depends on what you mean by "story mode." Tekken Tag Tournament 2 is going to have the most CG endings out of any Tekken game yet. All 50+ characters have their own ending CGs, which together make up about 80 minutes of footage, according to Harada. Supposedly, watching them all together makes a story of sorts...but I can't say much about that, but it was said in an interview.

Anyway, I'd personally go for Tekken Tag Tournament 2 if I had to pick just one. Heck, I've already had mine pre-ordered for awhile. I do love Dead or Alive as well, though, so I understand how hard it can be to pick. Tekken Tag Tournament 2 definitely seems to have the most bang for your buck, though, and will more than likely have the larger user base. I see people on Tekken 6 and even Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection all of the time. There's still people on Dead or Alive 4 online, but from what I've seen, it just can't compare to how many play Tekken 6. Don't know how big a deal online is to you, though, MrCookiepants.

Both should be great experiences, though, if you love both series'. I've played the Alpha demo of Dead or Alive 5 quite a bit, and it's pretty nice. Doesn't feel too different from the previous games, though. It's a beatiful game, too...though the color palette bugs me a bit. Everything seems too dark and gritty in comparison to the earlier games and stuff like Tekken Tag Tournament 2. Still, though, everything else looks pretty fantastic.

Which series have you enjoyed most in the past, though? If you ever enjoyed one more than the other, then go with that.

But if you can...get both. I'm definitely going to try and get Dead or Alive 5 as soon as possible after Tekken Tag Tournament 2.

Really? I thought the community was much smaller. Oh well, there goes the only reason to get DOA5 at launch! :-P buy TTT2, problem solved!

It's helped by the fact that tekken 6's online sucked ass

As far as community goes though the tekken community seems alot larger than the DOA one, though that's also probably helped by the fact that DOA 4 is really goddamn old.

Nope, still pretty active. Lots of scrubs last I played.

Historically only 1 will have a netcode that works on day 1.

I have a hard time believing that, specially since one is MP and the other one isn't, as well as being more recent.

To be honest that's much more than I had expected but by "story mode" I meant crap like devil within in Tekken 5 and scenario campaign from Tekken 6. It's kind of painful playing those modes knowing that the effort could of gone elsewhere in the game.

People definitely still play Dead or Alive 4 online. I spent a few hours playing it recently against random people online.

I wouldn't say it's anywhere near as active as some other games, such as Tekken 6, but there's definitely still enough that it shouldn't be hard to find anyone to play with at any time of day. I was playing at like 3 AM (EST) and there were plenty of people coming and going in the lobby I was playing in.

Shallow isn't a good reason for the hate, I admit. However, it has never been a very well designed game. Until now, perhaps?

DoA2 (in all of its iterations) and 3.1 are amazing fighters. DoA4 sucked.

DOA4 is the only one I'd call poorly designed. Aren't 3 and 2 pretty damn solid? (in their final versions at least)

Yep. They're great games with none of the problems DoA4 had.

On topic:

If I had to choose, I'd go with DoA5. Luckily I don't have to choose.

Not big on 3D fighters, but I've got both pre-ordered at Newegg for $45. Couldn't resist. Probably going right into my backlog stack behind P4A, which I haven't touched cause I'm addicted to Dragon's Dogma.

What's the timing on the Tekken pre-order DLC release? It's all going to be free at some point, right?
