Fans of fighting games like to play other fighting games as well as their favourite right? Makes sense it would come to Vita now since it's packed full of them.

Add Tekken to the platform and it will be basically the complete handheld fighting machine!

Also it's a shame so much sullying is happening in Vita threads despite the system wars sticky.

Sad when most of the people making jokes frequent the ios/3ds threads. They come into vita threads just for trolling. Still looking forward to this. Will miss using the fighting stick, but having it anywhere is awesome.

Im used to it by now, even though they have enough sales age threads to discourse on Vita doomness, but anytime there's a new game announcement for Vita, they roll in to poo poo on it too.

After Mortal Kombat's characters I really, really hope they'd rather simplify stages.

That was the wrong call by the dev considering most of the focus is on the characters. That and something about using the Unreal engine.

Ninja won't make that mistake ...

Hopefully TN has a better handle on their own engine than Netherrealm had on the rickety Unreal handheld port :p

After seeing the Vita port of PSASBR, running locked at 60fps w/ huge animated backgrounds and four character battles with non-shitty models... well, the Vita is more capable than some launch FG ports suggest it is.

Question is whether Team Ninja can devise a decent engine / is given sufficient time for the port.

They already have the engine was my point. Sigma Plus was gorgeous, and all the engine needs is optimization for a consistent 60fps.

Confined stages and only 2-4 character models max at once should make it possible. I'm predicting this will be no less a technical stunner than Dark Resurrection or Broken Destiny (or DOA:D for that matter) was.

Not a single mention in that video of hands-on research investigating the best ways to incorporate front and back touch gameplay features. Must be losing his touch.

Why would you need those features in a fighting game? Unless they're adding minigames, I don't see why they would even think about it.

Well, I was just being obnoxious, but I also legitimately don't believe for a moment that Hayashi will let an opportunity like this get past him without utilizing front and rear touchpads for something, and I don't think it will just be for alternate control schemes.

Didn't harada basically hint long time ago that TTT2 would be on the vita?

He said he was open to a vita port. I personally doubt it'll happen. The Tekken team is too divided between Smash Bros and TxSF. Wonder if they'll outsource it to Arika or Eighting.

It might have been total BS, but a commentator on the IPL stream this past weekend said he heard Namco is porting TTT2 to Vita with six new characters.

Namco covered pretty much every character already, so I imagine they're either new franchise characters like Lili was in Dark Resurrection (way too much effort for a non-arcade version though, so unlikely) or gimmicky Sony mascots :p

Given the state of SF / Tekken crossover stuffs, I wouldn't be surprised if TxSF gets quietly shelved for the moment in favor of something like a Vita game.

Or maybe they'll push it back to a durango/orbis title. Try to drum up more interest by making it an early fighting game release for that generation + their graphic engine seems at the end of its rope for TTT2. (Not that TTT2 doesn't look fantastic.)

Arika did Tekken 3DS, I could see Namco going to them again. Weirdly, Namco has yet to make a Vita game inhouse afaik?

I love my Vita but I want to say those shots are full of bull. Then again, I'd love to be surprised.
Agreed. Those most certainly can not be Vita screenshots. I think I even recognize a few of them from previews of the PS3/360 version of the game. I'd also like to be wrong as well.

I wonder if they'll put in any sort of PSV -> PS3 stuff like Capcom did with Street Fighter X Tekken.

DEAD OR ALIVE 5 PLUS takes the signature fighting style of the popular DOA series along with stunning graphics and new martial arts techniques of the recent console release, and brings it to the Vita with all-new system-specific features.

In DEAD OR ALIVE 5 PLUS, players will take on the roles of the cast of DEAD OR ALIVE fighters in an intense, action-packed brawler set in visually striking loca
tions from around the world. The famed DOA hand-to-hand combat returns, supported by 3D stages that update the series’ characteristic style with a fresh look and feel.

Stages in DEAD OR ALIVE 5 PLUS are more than spectacular visual backdrops, instead playing to a fighter’s strengths. As a fight progresses, the backdrop will change and interact with players. Skilled fighters will be able to utilize these dynamic stages to pit their opponents against fresh obstacles to create a new fighting experience. This fusion of combat and dynamically changing backdrops is the formula for the evolution of fighting games as “Fighting Entertainment.”

With a sensual yet realistic style, DEAD OR ALIVE 5 PLUS characters are rendered in incredibly lifelike detail. Innovative touch controls bring a completely new experience to fighting games. Simple taps, swipes and pinches to your opponent trigger a variety of devastating moves. Using the Vita’s motion sensor, you can play vertically for a first-person, full-screen view of your opponent. These intuitive new controls are only possible with the PS Vita’s touchscreen and rear touch pad.

Both novice and expert players will find even more ways to up their game with DEAD OR ALIVE 5 PLUS. New modes focused just on training offer tutorials on game basics, and a new display of advanced frame data offers over twice as much the amount of information on each move than the previous version. Tournament players will spend hours analyzing the best moves for their fights.

Gather your friends and take the fight inside, outside or anywhere. DEAD OR ALIVE 5 PLUS takes the ultimate in Fighting Entertainment on the go, thanks to the Vita's ad hoc and infrastructure network features.

FEATURES

• Intense DOA Fighting: DEAD OR ALIVE 5 PLUS expands the signature DOA fighting style with a variety of deadly martial arts techniques and styles.

• Realistic and Sensual Graphics: Characters come alive with a new visual style combining stunning realism with a warm, naturalistic feel that conveys every facet of each character—from raw power to sleek sensuality. And now you can interact directly with the characters using the Vita’s touchscreens!

• Dream Lineup: The full cast of DOA fighters is at your fingertips, including Ryu Hayabusa, Hayate, Ayane, Kasumi, Hitomi, Bayman, Christie, Lei Fang, Zack, Kokoro, Bass, Rig, Jann Lee, Helena, Lisa, Brad Wong, Eliot, Tina and more.

• Dynamic Interactive 3D Stages: More than a backdrop, spectacular locations from around the world provide a changing and interactive arena for deadly battles.

• Devastating Finishing Moves: Use power blows to interactively trigger the Danger Zone of a stage, including crashing cars, collapsing glaciers, and an exploding oil rig—distract your opponents or drive them into danger.

FPS mode? Why don't they go and put the stuff like frame data in the portable version?

I'm pretty sure 2-3 of those shots are just straight-up re-releases of DOA5 console shots.

I'm confident saying the same for the last batch of NGS2+ shots they released as well.

Yup, sounds about right.

I wonder if they'll ever do anything with that casino chick from DOA Paradise.

She was in a blackjack game on iOS. At least that's something!

I'm confused by what other FPS data the game could offer, 5 already listed all the data you needed to know.

I think he's referring to the first-person mode. The other stuff we'll probably get in the next patch, assuming they're gonna be honest with themselves about where that stuff would be most useful/appreciated. The very last place I'm gonna give a shit about frame data is when I'm playing DOA on Vita.

I played Tekken 6 on Vita this morning on the bus (ghost mode). Yes, I could've played it on my PSP, but whatever. OLED!

But Tekken Tag 2 would be bought in a milisecond.

My Vita has gotten me into fighting games. I suck at them pretty hard and so far my favorite is SFxTekken. I will love giving some of these 3d fighters a shot. I REALLY want Tekken on Vita just cause I have favorite characters from SFXT and I want to learn them in their own game!

And yeah cross play is HUGE. It is a big reason why I can play SFxT anytime and UMVC3 only sometimes.

If they planned on having any level of cross-over/compatibility with the PS3 version, "Plus" wouldn't be in the title.

All I got for the Vernal Equinox was this stupid tag
No word on cross-play in that Facebook post ruined my hopes for this game.

If the "Plus" is referring to new characters, stages, moves, and/or features it's understandable.

And this is also Team Ninja (Dog) that we're talking about here...so maybe the Vita version will have cross-play added for the PS3 version of Dead Or Alive 5 Sigma Plus Ultimate Razor's Edge Edition?

You'll love DOA, its very casual friendly.

I suppose. I just thought it'd be like a SFxT situation where we get for free what everyone else had to pay for (costume DLC in this case) and some incidental stuff that doesn't affect gameplay (like touch fighting modes).

It's just that Vita's online community is generally abysmal. Good thing this game handles rage-quitters the right way and still gives you GP rather than just unceremoniously booting you back to the menu like UMvC3, because the rage-quitters will be endless.
