Sooo...have people simply forgot what an utterly terrible game DoA Extreme 2 was or do they simply not care because they get to see their favorite characters in swimsuits? If so: Do they now know of the internet? Have they not noticed the arrival of stuff like the Source Film Maker?

I just feel like there's something I'm missing here. If you want a good DoA Game, this isn't it. If you want a good minigame collection, this isn't it. If you want porn with video game characters, this isn't it and it's actually available for free to you, right now. I don't get who this game is actually for.

Maybe we hope that they make the volleyball more like 1 and we get an actual good game this time?

Its for people unlike yourself who want the specific things DOA Xtreme Volleyball offers.

You don't have to understand personally why other people buy or want the game. That's there prerogative to do so isn't it?

Can't y'all be honest and just say you want a t&a game

You right.

that's too simple a statement for a complex situation.

There's plenty of T&A games with more explicit content available

But little if none with this specific genre or specs.

People really don't get it: Raw nudity or explicit content hasn't the same appeal. There's no charm or character in that that sets it apart. Once you cross that line, it becomes nothing but the extreme.

This is simply a volleyball game with scantily clad women, not nude, not explicit. Simply suggestive. It doesn't need to go to an extreme. People who want that can go elsewhere.

Then again I'm sure everybody who gets this game has different reasons. I know it's a silly game with attractive virtual women playing volleyball. It's just a lighthearted, self conscious guilty pleasure.

I don't always want to play super mario or go through dark souls again. I don't always want to play a grizzled military shooter. I don't always want to invest hours upon hours into a deeply woven narrative, with meaningful choices that cause me to reflect on my ideologies and personal philosophies.

Sometimes I just want to play as sexy ladies enjoying volleyball on the beach.

I was never into how the girls in these games looked prior to DOA5. They really REALLY improved the art so much in 5, and they look great in DOAX3.

Even still, I was in gamestop today and spotted this for $5 and decided to grab it XD

Curious if it plays as bad as I've heard, or if that's an exaggeration because the press just doesn't like anime girls.

I also had to endure this shit while I was there, that I posted about in another thread...

This isn't quite the craziest thing, but it's one of the dumbest/annoying thing I had to listen to today. I was in a gamestop today, and spotted a copy of DOA Xtreme 2 for xbox 360 for $4.99...was in good shape, and I figured for that price, was worth seeing if it was as bad as everyone said.

While I'm up at the register, the guy started with something along the lines:

"You know that Xtreme 3 is coming to Xbox One, right?"

I just internally rolled my eyes, because I knew it's not coming to Xbox One, but I did say "yeah, well not in america"

And he started going on about well "you know it's gonna come eventually"

Then while he was getting the game, he said something like "Man, remember when this game was on Dreamcast"

Confused at first, I was like "Oh yeah, Dead or Alive 2..."

Then he was like "no, I mean the first Xtreme Beach Volleyball"

I just didn't even want to respond to it lol, I just was like "oh, oh yeah..."

Not quite the same thing.
Does this Source Film Maker thing have dialogue for the characters? Does it have the same game mechanics? Does it have VR? Does it have Soft Engine 2.0? etc etc. If not, then why would I care? I'm interested in the whole package.

It's cool if the game isn't for you, but it shouldn't be that difficult to fathom that there are people who want it.

Exactly, it's like saying "you like naked ladies, go watch any porn". People have preferences, fetishes, etc..

More than the sum of its parts.

Most of the people in here are pretty open about liking the fanservice. Doesn't mean that's its only merit or that the entire product is somehow made redundant by the availability of online pornography (even DOA fan art.)

Not gonna expect someone who thinks the game should be banned to understand, though.

No, couldn't care much if it was just any T&A game. It interests me because it's DoA characters -- I like its fighting games -- and good effort is being put into this one visually.

I wouldn't get a Senran Kagura equivalent even if it were the only one in the market.

Has it confirmed if this will release on PSN? Seems like that's the best way to go and if there's demand Tecmo would be foolish not to release it here.

Only for Asia and Japan so far. There is no western release confirmed.

Digital though? That was my point better to download it so at least they'll have analytics to gauge demand if they see a spike of Asian PSN accounts buying the game from IP addresses in North America.

Oh, I have no idea. I assumed that all games released physically were available on PSN these days but maybe not.

Would they even have access to the specific IPs/IP regions downloading their game from PSN? Or care enough to obtain it?

DL version is confirmed (it's about 1,000 yen cheaper than physical)

Also, there will be some sort of core-fighter version of this similar to DOA5LR, but it won't be free. You will start with one character, and you can buy additional characters.

I wanted to post this during the DOAX3 controversy but was banned, but it's interesting enough so I'll do it here. The argument that it's strictly a financial decision to not bring the game over came up a LOT. That just doesn't make sense.

TK is bringing over Arslan, on PS4 and Xbox One. Physically. They did some polls on their twitter to gauge interest

Am I the only one that thinks Arslan will bomb spectacularly? Especially on Xbox One? And it's coming out in February, a time when they could have done DOAX3 instead. There's no doubt for me that DOAX3 would have sold more.

Not to mention that DOAX3 will also be a money printing DLC machine, so the comparisons with the older titles in the franchise were moot as well.

Have they mentioned it again since the game's reveal?

It was mentioned in one of October's weekly Famitsu's.
They called it a starter pack which would release after the retail version. You purchase it with 1 character, and can buy other characters if you'd like. I don't believe they've said anything about what it would have for content.

The game bombed pretty bad in Japan didn't it? Maybe they are desperate in bringing it over in hopes of making back at least a little bit of the costs. Though yes I imagine it will bomb here too.

I'm sure it will. Not only is it a a pretty unknown title over here, but the game itself is also not very good. I regret having imported it.

The whole thing is honestly a load of bullshit on their end. There was no more "controversy" over this game than there has been for DoA for years, even then most people didn't say shit this time around until PA started drumming it up. It "not making enough" is a load as well when they're willing to bring all these other niche games over here with significantly more text/voice work (keep in mind there hasn't been an English translation for these before coming to the West, yet DoA already has one), most of which sell significantly less than any DoA game ever would. Honestly not even sure why they're clearly looking for excuses as to why they don't want to bring it over here, when there is no valid evidence that supports anything that's been said so far.

I have no doubt that Arslan will bomb here as well, just as it did in Japan. I've stopped trying to understand their logic when it comes to Western releases after the whole YNNK thing. We get all the Atelier games on Vita, yet somehow they don't feel like YNNK is worth bringing out the version for the system with a jrpg fanbase, along with the PS4 version. Instead we're only getting it on the system that hasn't come into it's own with jrpgs yet and carries a higher risk of not selling there because of that. The logic is just mindblowing.

That issue is the only issue I brought up at the controversy thread which was easily ignored. It just doesn't add up to just write this off as a financial decision when KT releases such niche titles over here all the time. Yet every news outlet did exactly that, even the ones I listen to who I thought would dig deeper into it. However, I'd rather not muck up this thread with that talk.

Proving my point from earlier

The first DOAX was a fun volleyball game/casino with a collection mechanic.

The second one ruined the first's image.

Reminds me of people all of a sudden thinking RE5 was a bad game after playing RE6, or (for a closer comparison) Rumble Roses 2 ruining the image of Rumble Roses 1, which played like a good PS2 Smackdown game.

To be fair, Rumble Roses XX played better than the first game... it was everything else about it that sucked (no story, characters looked like they got botched surgery, ENDLESS GRIND, etc). A newer Rumble Roses that had the content and style of the original, but with the actual wrestling gameplay of XX would actually be an improvement.

I do notice that they're referring to Xtreme 2, rather than the original.

I've run into almost universal disappointment for Xtreme 2 from people who enjoyed the first. Even on the surface level, things like re-using the soundtrack rather than making new arrangements has a pretty eyebrow-raising implication about quality goals, and that did extend to gameplay decisions.

Thing with DOAX3 that many people might be missing is the DOAX 2 team is not the DOAX3 team. Team Ninja has grown and Itagaki took some of his mooks with him. How DOA5 is is a sign that if they did what they did with DOA5 DOAX3 would be completelt different.

It's an exaggeration. The collecting mechanic was just as unpredictable as the first. The Volleyball took a little more practice to be an efficient winner than the 1st, that I'll admitt. After getting the hang of it, you could win easily 7-0,2or 3. A big problem, what each girl liked was in question. Partners that liked each other were important to winning.

Doax 2 had more suits but they never increased payouts for any activities enough post release, which increased the grind. Itagaki increased vb payouts once iirc.

Also, he increased the payouts in response to a glitch that people were using to minimize losses at the casino. You could sign out at a certain time if you were about to lose in roulette or slots, and your money wouldn't change. This was patched out and the VB payouts were increased so players wouldn't be too upset about money-making trick being removed.

Of course, anyone who was serious about getting money just found out how to remove patches from 360 by clearing out the cache.

I think it's a bit early to make the call either way. Whilst DoA5 plays better than the prior entry there are many aspects of the game that are worse. There's also been Dead or Alive Paradise, Ninja Gaiden III, etc... and Team Ninja's new monetisation model (and the fanbase's receptiveness of it) could do nasty, nasty things to DOAX's already shaky collection model.

Being a fanservice oriented game, I'm mostly optimistic, as that's the primary area I feel the team has improved... but I certainly don't feel that the Team Ninja of today is superior to the Team Ninja under Itagaki. This goes both ways though, and Itagaki's doesn't even begin to qualify for comparison with the Team Ninja of old. Everyone seems weaker after the split imo.

The payouts post-patch weren't the problem (besides the penalty acquired by your AI teammate habitually dropping a point in nearly every match). The problem with the game was that there were no reliable gifting methods unlike the first, so you could attempt to gift endlessly, making no progress. In the first game, you were basically guaranteed to gift an outfit after three attempts, whilst in DOAX2 you could easily try to gift the same swimsuit 15-20 times unsuccessfully. You were basically better off removing the patch, and using the lower payout alongside the sign-out glitch.

It wasn't even necessarily the money-making that made the glitch so powerful... it was that you could exit out in the same manner if the girl rejected the gift... so you could buy the suit once, and brute force anyone to take it, simply by signing out until the RNG landed in your favor. It perfectly highlighted how shit the gifting scenario was. Hopefully they make changes to it.

Lol, I know you probably meant a fighting game that has the core of the series intact, but I read this as core-fighter from Gundam, which oddly kind of still works.

That's the parody account right? lol

That's the real guy I believe.

I feel bad now- I've watched Arslan and I liked it, but not enough to buy the musou.
