Dead Rising 4: Return to the Mall

Dead Rising 4: Dead Rising 1, Again
More like "Dead Rising 4: Dead Rising 3 again but we desperately try to fool people into thinking this is reminiscent of the first game"

Was Frank this foul-mouthed before?
lol nope

But hey, Vancouver claims he's "more mature" this way in between his meme-spouting too.

Is there seriously no optional timer mode?

DR3 Nightmare mode was very good. Great, even, though still a step down from the original difficulty-wise. I don't know how Normal DR3 was, internet reception says it wasn't great.

If this game comes out without some optional modes to better satisfy fans of the prior games, I'll be baffled.
A mode that doesn't even highlight the save locations on the mini-map (y'know, with the lack of checkpoints) and where you cannot complete every single quest on a fresh save (due to artificially speeding up the timer) is not in fact, very good or great even.

How can Frank be "back" if this game treats it as though this is Frank's first time experiencing the zombie outbreak? Why is this Dead Rising 4? Why did anyone make any single one of the decisions they did in the creation of this game?

Having just played DR1 again for the first time in years, people whine way too fucking much about the timer. It's manageable, but it requires you to plan your routes and think a little. But I suppose a lot of people went in expecting a mindless zombie-slaughtering simulator, which is what 3 and 4 are.

Exactly why it was such an integral part of the first two games and why the original Dead Rising and even DR2 to this day feel different than other zombie game out there. It's pretty much Dynasty Warriors with zombies now. The weapon creation shit from 3 was ok, I guess but bah. I've little interest in this.

"Bad ass" Frank is forgettable as fuck, too. I'll take Frank the every man from the original any day of the week. Honestly outside of the abhorrent NPC AI, the original is still a damned fantastic game. I need to pick up the re-master soon.

The game itself looks fine, but the changes to the core mechanics is still sad to see.
My biggest complaint besides that are once again the ridiculous items. Exo Suits, Tornadoes, and the like are just getting a bit too much.

DR1 and 3 had some dumb shit, but they at least made a little more sense.
I don't know why someone would make a teddy bear with a machine gun, but it could happen.

I love how they are like "Frank is back"

It's like who the fuck even is that guy, doesn't look like West or sound like him.

It's even more weird with his designs. DR1 to DR2 looks like he aged, DR3 was just kinda there, but this DR4 look seems like he had a sip from the fountain of youth. Since he's looking way younger than his DR2 self.

Man, who thought Capcom Vancouver was a good idea... These guys have no idea what Dead Rising is.

This is like, a prime example of Saints Row Syndrome. (Or as BORING people prefer, "Flanderization")

I'd say it's more of a Sonic syndrome rather than SR. The game design became more about the marketing than the game design as an end itself. Dead Rising was never about killing zombies, they were just in your way. The clock /is/ the game. It drives every single aspect of the game, from the level design down to the base combat mechanics. Removing it destroys the series. It's now just a dumb zombie game. Which is whatever, DR3 is a fun game. Just a mcdonalds cheeseburger vs something experimental from a A class burger joint that while a little flawed, carries itself based on it's unique execution.

Having Dead Rising dumbed down doesn't hurt as bad now. Back in 2006 it was the first real zombie apocalypse simulator I can remember.

Now we have:
state of decay (grand theft walking dead)
Project Zomboid (if it gets out of EA ever)
7 Days 2 Die (ditto)

But DR was the most polished of them.

Is this Alpha footage? Because character models look kinda rough

The thing is DR2 was perfect in making an easier Dead Rising game that, while more accessible, still felt true to the first.

It's sad that they actually did prove they could nail it and then fucked it up anyway.

2 was good, though! They got it with 2! 2 was very much Dead Rising. I don't know what happened after that, though.

Still gonna have a lot of fun with this, but seeing the devs and marketing completely miss the point with the timer and Franks character is unfortunate.

I don't mind the zany stuff, if they are truly done with the timer and want to make a zombie killing jamboree, might as well go all out.

New Frank looks closer to the original concept art of Frank West than it does to the Dead Rising 1 in-game Frank, but both are better than Dan Akroyd. That was just the worst.

They have confirmed that the timer is completely gone.

baffling

I don't remember struggling at all to find save locations. It's been a couple years, but weren't they near all safehouses? Or did I just learn which safehouses had them? Either way, I remember tension to get to a savepoint but never frustration over being unable to find one. Didn't realize that about the quests, but not being able to see all the content in a game in a single playthrough isn't a downside at all to me.

So, two bulletpoints that may matter to some, I guess, but my experience was wonderful.

Dan Aykroyd Frank was a departure from the look of the first, but they kept some key attributes. But this guy? Who da fuks you?

Pretty much, while it really did look a lot like Dan Akroyd. You could still feel/tell it was Frank.

If we had gotten leaked images of this game, with no info. I don't think too many people would go "That's frank without a doubt". Most seems like "I guess that could be frank?".

The design here looks like something that should be set inbetween 1 and 2. But we know it's set after 4. So the change is just odd.

Why would Frank be back if
you get to Overtime Mode in DR1 and find out he got infected and had to develop a crude version of Zombrex? Is this going to be a mechanic in DR4 where Frank has to take Zombrex every couple of hours to ward it off? Will Capcom Vancouver even bother to explain what happened between the two games or is it a 'lol video games' story?

Just wondering.

Man, I miss Dead Rising. Fuck this police artist's description of Frank West that we're getting in 4, and fuck the complete removal of anything that made this game more than just another zombie game.

I still can't get passed the removal of ragdoll. I assume it was for performance reasons, but sending zombies flying looks so rigid and stiff now. Seems like they went out of their way to avoid showing it in this footage.

Off the Record had such a mechanic, but in DR3
they established a potential cure as the main character was immune.
. Seeing as this game takes place after 3, we don't really know if it's going to be mechanic.

Why not hire the OG VA?

I really loved the DR1 Frank West. Shame it doesn't look nothing like the original.

Yeah it's just weird all around.

Frank is BACK!

*New VA*
*Doesn't really look like Frank*

The story probably goes about
A cure was found, but this testing in the area is to see if some company can have a version resistant to the cure. So they can make money off zombies or something.

All these trailers have been super gray and dark. It would have been nice to see a lot of warm Christmas colors given the game's setting.

Game looks like a lot of fun, people seem to be hating for the sake of it. We have remasters of the old games if you're looking for that specific style of gameplay.

Have they said yet if co-op is returning or if this is going back to DR1 pure singleplayer?

Store page says '4-player co-op multiplayer'.

looks pretty fun. the first 2 were rubbish. i hated the timers. 3 was the first dead rising i enjoyed. just let me roam around and kill shit with wacky shit.
