Where did you read it was in the face not the back of the head? Your link says back of the head.

Direct quote from three eyewitnesses who are friends of mine. Anecdotal evidence is shoddy at best which is why the article wasn't edited to cover it.

I thought it was Paul Van Dyk

Pretty sure it was "insert Ministry of Sound signed DJ here".

To others, it's (for some reason) a name now synonymous with Dubstep and the first thing people say when someone asks "Hey guys what's some good Dubstep?".

When did this happen?
That's just upsetting.

The 'electronic music' scene has really gone to shit since the 90's.

James Cameron is the name of the DJ who punched Deadmau5.

Let the Avatar jokes begin.

Fantastic. That Facebook page is hilarious!

Also, people need to stop worrying about what is/isn't associated with dubstep and their own love/hate for the genre. It's a popular genre these days, and these kinds of associations happen with every popular genre.

people think Deadmau5 is dubstep? what the fuck?

Yes, most people do because they're idiots. When you ask someone "Hey do you like Deadmau5" they'll say "Yeah dubstep is awesome" and when you ask them "Hey do you like dubstep" they'll say "yeah Deadmau5 is awesome"

This is the worst thing ever. Deadmau5 makes good music. Dubstep is not good music. These two things should not combine.

Urgh. There are good and bad examples of every genre. Not even accounting for the subjectivity of taste. The attitude of "X genre is inherently shit" really annoys me.

It did. And it's the same shit he always puts out but with a Dubstep drop. Which is enough for everyone to basket him in the same genre as REAL artists like Burial.

A triumphant fucking troll maybe. Skrillex is abominable.

This.

To be fair, more people here would know about Deadmau5 than Perry Farrell.

And I bet Perry Farrell has woken up quite a few mornings not knowing who Perry Farrell is.

I was somewhat of a fan of his until I heard about all the douchebag bullshit he pulls. I have also heard that he gets ridiculed by other DJ's, both amateur and famous, for being shit at what he does and that very few take him seriously.

Different strokes. He's got a show in Kitchener-Waterloo in June, it's sold out. :( A group of people I know were looking at maybe getting a VIP table for $600, but it looks like the tables may be sold out too.

Love Love Love deadmau5, but the criticism he gets is spot-on. He is a dick, and it really can be argued he is a one mega hit wonder who'll still put out a new CD now and then but will never get back on top, you see them all the time, filler artists who can mail it in for the rest of their careers as hype sells them hard.

Ghosts n Stuff will forever haunt him because it is such a masterpiece. It is a shame he'll never be able to match it. 'Some Chords' off of his new CD was the only song I really dug on his new album. 'Animal Rights' was decent too.

The whole fruity loops lawsuit was hilariously bad PR for him, showed what kind of guy he really is. Also his comments about DJing in general and narcing on back stage drug use is kinda uncool.

Not too fond of the guy's music, but it's better than the rap or whatever that came before it in popularity.

This is entirely not true.

From a Deadmau5 interview from the original source.. RE: Dubstep.

*blah blah blah I'm producing alot of music*

If you’re making that much music I can’t imagine what goes unpublished.

“Conservatively speaking I’d say about 3% of my music never gets out.”

So how do you make the call on what is worth it and what’s not?

“It’s about what I listen to and what I like, you know what I mean? I sometimes force myself to do things that I don’t like just for the sake of artistic exercise. You never know when something will get popular, just like dubstep did and then you can go ‘oh, I remember doing this shit before it was cool’.”

Interesting you should say that because you won the award for best dubstep track at this year’s IDMAs. Was that a surprise?

“I know, right? How fucking weird is that? There’s gotta be some angry people out there now.”

I like the part where he indirectly admits that he wasn't jumping on the whole Dubstep bandwagon to begin with.

Come on man. This isn't the 90's anymore. There's a whole new generation who would have little to no exposure to Perry.

The funny thing is, a few years back I saw a Perry Farrell DJ set. If he's still doing that on the side he probably plays dubstep these days...

Or if not dubstep, maybe playing Deadmau5 tracks? ""I can tell you I'm excited for somebody like Deadmau5 because we've got now dance music in a headlining slot, and out on a main stage instead of in a dance tent," Farrell said (regarding organisation of Lolla)

It doesn't matter if it isn't the nineties or if Farrell enjoys Deadmau5. People have heard "Jane Says" or "Been Caught Stealing" on the radio hundreds of times since their release, and they've had multiple albums go platinum. Deadmau5 might be popular now in the electro scene or whatever it's called, but it's a vocal minority of the overall music scene.

The dude was alright when he came here, it was long ago before he became as famous as now though. We chatted a bit and he seemed alright.

Well...to be honest a lot of friends and people I know love Deadmau5 even though they probably know no other incredible electronic acts. He's pretty damn mainstream.

After hearing from someone on here that he tried narcing on Rusko for smoking pot backstage at a show, I can only hope that this punch inflicted massive damage on his ego.

Not with Lindsay Gayle Evans licking his wounds.

hopefully they put that in his next album review.

"forces people to spend $600 at middle-tier nightclubs. must be talented."

you seem honest enough, but every time skrillex' talent is brought into question the first line defense of his apologists is to quote how popular he is and the kind of shows he books. nowhere do they make any valid claims as to his technical prowess as a musician or craft as a stage act.

Pretty funny. He's had some good tracks in the past but more recently is starting to sound like Señor Superdouche. Actually, now more seems like a troll who just happens to be adequate at producing music. And that god-awful Space Invaders tattoo... ugh.
