Deadmau5 finally gets punched in the face.

^^ Yeah, I saw that. Was a bit funny but he does come off as a guy who doesn't know the difference between internet trolling and IRL trolling. The implications of one are FAR worse than another. Like his comments on DJ's, for example.

Love Love Love deadmau5, but the criticism he gets is spot-on. He is a dick, and it really can be argued he is a one mega hit wonder who'll still put out a new CD now and then but will never get back on top, you see them all the time, filler artists who can mail it in for the rest of their careers as hype sells them hard.

Ghosts n Stuff will forever haunt him because it is such a masterpiece. It is a shame he'll never be able to match it. 'Some Chords' off of his new CD was the only song I really dug on his new album. 'Animal Rights' was decent too.

The whole fruity loops lawsuit was hilariously bad PR for him, showed what kind of guy he really is. Also his comments about DJing in general and narcing on back stage drug use is kinda uncool.
Like the way you think... provided that the Ghosts n Stuff you're referring to is the original release, not the one with the god-awful vocal over the top. FWIW he released Hi Friend at the same time which is infinitely better. Animal Rights did kick a lot of arse, though... but I'm guessing that's more Wolfgang Gartner than DM. The hooks aren't in the Canadian's style.

PS. Can you elaborate on the Fruity Loops thing? I read some of it on his wiki but couldn't quite grasp what happened.

PPS. By far my favourite track of his. He does do good music, but he's just become a boring producer now and yeah, a douche.

PPPS.

I was somewhat of a fan of his until I heard about all the douchebag bullshit he pulls. I have also heard that he gets ridiculed by other DJ's, both amateur and famous, for being shit at what he does and that very few take him seriously.
Same.

It doesn't matter if it isn't the nineties or if Farrell enjoys Deadmau5. People have heard "Jane Says" or "Been Caught Stealing" on the radio hundreds of times since their release, and they've had multiple albums go platinum. Deadmau5 might be popular now in the electro scene or whatever it's called, but it's a vocal minority of the overall music scene.

Take a look at the Lollapalooza lineup: http://lineup.lollapalooza.com/

That should give you an idea of the popularity of Deadmau5. If Janes Addiction were on the lineup, would they appear before or after Deadmau5? Sure, many more people have heard the popular Jane songs but those who have only been exposed via radio probably wouldn't be able to identify the band let alone the singer.

Fuck Deadmau5 put Death From Above 1979 up there as a headliner. They deserve it.

Deadmau5 would be given top billing because of his live show. It's very Daft Punk-ish, though nowhere near as elaborate or entertaining. Apparently it was done by the same guys.

It IS a great spectacle and would be why he's higher rather than lower. Great production compared to Skrillex who just had stylised versions of his name bouncing around while he pressed "play" on his Macbook Pro.

Just read the wiki and it is a good summary.

He basically provided samples for a DJ/mixing program, people used it & put out songs, and he threatened legal action.

He claims he didn't know what the samples were going to be used for. Still, DJing is all about playing around with music, kind of robs the spirit of DJing.

People equate deadmau5 to dubstep? REALLY?

He has what, 3 or 4 dubstep songs that imo all kind of suck?

Dudes a progressive house man turned electro house...

Btw guys, music is subjective. But I guess your opinion is more valued than others.

He's got 2 songs that are dubstep.

Correct, but remember, you validated it.

Other than Raise your weapon and one trick pony, I think he has 2 or three other dubstep songs that aren't released, just soundcloud type stuff.

That last part about your opinion being more important was sarcastic :P

Urgh. There are good and bad examples of every genre. Not even accounting for the subjectivity of taste. The attitude of "X genre is inherently shit" really annoys me.

I can find country songs that I like, but that's doesn't mean that I like country music. I think most of it is terrible and it's not my style. Dubstep is the same. Everything dubstep I hear ruins perfectly good dance songs.

In other words...

It did. And it's the same shit he always puts out but with a Dubstep drop. Which is enough for everyone to basket him in the same genre as REAL artists like Burial.

Oh, I'm well aware it happened. There were dubstep songs on his last album and it pissed me off. He needs to stick to his prog/house/trance/whatever stuff.

Then just don't listen to dubstep if you don't like it? Holy shit how hard is that? Why would you purposely listen to something you don't enjoy? I personally hate black metal, I wouldn't go out of my way to listen to it but if people like it, then good for them.

Maybe they ruin perfectly good dance songs FOR YOU, some others might enjoy it. I personally don't like dubstep at live events, it's too slow and weird to dance to, but it's cool when you're just chilling in your room.

lol i thought for a second this was about that one internet troll called deadmeat. i was glad he finally got punched in the face.

I thought the whole Rusko/ Deadmau5 thing happened a long time ago :P. Didn't Deadmau5 get pissed off at Rusko for smoking a joint? :lol. I like some of Deadmau5's music, but the dude does kind of seem like a prick sometimes.

Seriously tho, I don't go looking for dubstep. It gets included in my Deadmau5 or mixtapes and it makes me sadface. That's the worst, when you're bouncing to a nice upspeed mixtape, then suddenly dubstep smacks you in the fact and you're neck has to stop bouncing. :(

So you say "dubstep is not good music" but then go on to say (paraphrasing) "I can find dubstep songs that I like".

So... good songs are not good music?

I've experienced this a few times at live gigs. Set might be going alright and then BAM, a "dubstep" track or two hits me in the face and it just breaks any continuity of the set I was seeing. I even saw fucking Solveig play some... he's a house DJ from France FFS.

I was arguing against the idea that a couple of good tracks means a genre is good. When the vast majority are shit, that means it's most likely an aberration and not indicative of the overall quality of the genre. It's like me and horror movies. I'd say about 99% of horror movies are shit. But that doesn't mean there isn't a good one here or there. But if someone asked me what I thought about horror movies, I'd say horror movies suck.

Seriously, this ought not be a difficult concept to grasp. Besides, it's just one man's opinion. Don't get all worked up about it! Dance it out!

But I can't dance to dubstep and that's all anyone plays :(

I do see your point, and feel the same way about many genres (house, trance, techno... snooze). But I was just standing up for the exceptions to the rule- and there are always exceptions!

I'm just going to go sit over here in the corner bemoaning the death of IDM.
