Deep Silver is pulling Metro Exodus from Steam, makes it Epic store exclusive.

Had to rush and buy it on Steam just now, go get fucked Epic.
Won't they cancel the orders and just refund?

Anyway, whenever something like that happens, if it doesn't concern a game I REALLY want, I'll just be "well I'll just play something else", there are enough games and if they are not on the plateform I use I will most likely just not play them, unless it's really something I really care about, but if it's just a "normal" game, no.

"The developer and publisher have assured us that all prior sales of the game on Steam will be fulfilled on Steam, and Steam owners will be able to access the game and any future updates or DLC through Steam. "

We'll see I guess...

If they cancel preorders at this point, it's just going to piss off even more people, who would rather turn to piracy then support the game over on another store.

On the steam page:

Notice: Later today, sales of Metro Exodus will be discontinued on Steam due to a publisher decision to make the game exclusive to another PC store.

The developer and publisher have assured us that all prior sales of the game on Steam will be fulfilled on Steam, and Steam owners will be able to access the game and any future updates or DLC through Steam.

We think the decision to remove the game is unfair to Steam customers, especially after a long pre-sale period. We apologize to Steam customers that were expecting it to be available for sale through the February 15th release date, but we were only recently informed of the decision and given limited time to let everyone know.

I'm guessing EA gave them some... incentive to be exclusive.

But this is exactly the future that was predicted when EA Access happened. Several fragmented services with exclusivity. I'm sure Activision is working on their own stuff.
Activision is already using Battle.net and will probably release their future games exclusively on the platform.

prepared to wait for a year for the steam version (i won't pay over £30 for any pc game) but will most likely wait until it's on humble monthly now

I feel like this will only hurt the game. I'm in no rush to play this game, I'll just wait when it's up on Steam.

Received my RTX 2060 today, was waiting for the reviews of Metro Exodus to buy it, had to run on the Steam store to preorder it !

Want a stupid thing to do right before release. Hope this shit doesn't become more prevalent but sadly I think we're going to see Epic try this with bigger high profile pc games. (Thinking about Sekiro Shadows Die Twice)

Its quite crazy how epic with that much money and a good position to really challenge steam is not really bothering to add all those features right now to gain massive market share. All steam has to do now is lower their cut and epic lost because steam is superior in terms of functions and services

^This.

I think it's pretty clear they're more interested in just buying up exclusives in the hope that they can build a successful store based on that alone, and not in making a robust client that matches the competition.

I was checking out Exodus' Steam page yesterday and it occurred to me that this might happen, every upcoming big release on Steam is going to have an asterisk next to it until it releases.

You won't buy it because the epic store doesn't compete point for point with steam store? Sorry but that's fucking mental.

It makes sense that epic is buying exclusivity.

Can't beat valve on price unless you're foolish to believe valve wouldn't be more than happy to engage in price wars

Can't beat valve on features, steam has 20+ years of evolution

Can't beat valve on community, look how impossible it is to encourage installation of something as simplistic as a new client?

Epics only play is on exclusivity

Denuvo and Epic store exclusivity? I don't condone it, but I see an upcoming increase in piracy for this one :(
Still can't even throttle downloads in the Epic client - those were dark days when steam lacked that option.

What will happen with physical version? Might I redeem the code to steam?
Is there a physical version for PC? Last I looked there wasn't... AFAIK, Epic launcher has no way to redeem keys, or at least I can't find it anywhere.
Edit, again: Huh, so no UK/USA physical PC version but it looks like other places in Europe are selling it. Innnnteresting.

Edit yet again: RPS seem to think that any physical versions will activate on Epic, but no further details...
Update: Retail copies of the game will activate on the Epic Store.

And a (now deleted) tweet from Metro's twitter apparently said retail copies will be Steam.
Bit of a confusing clusterfuck.

Until the games start underperforming, which they will. There are just too many Steam users who are loyal to that platform and wont buy from elsewhere.

Looks like I womt be buying this game at all. First Denuvo, now on Epic store with no user reviews.

Get fucking bent THQ Nordic shit company

IMO Epic is targeting a new generation of gamers. The vast majority of Fortnite players seems to be kids and filthy casuals more than anything else.

Making the assumption every gamer is tethered to their Steam account like yourself is misguided. Everything that is Fortnite seems like it's made for people younger than myself, and every game they fight to keep off Steam has virtually no interest to me.

Until Epic gets even 1 single game that people universally want to play there is no competition to speak of.

I'm sure kids and casuals can't wait to play that new Metro game

Well it's good to know that Epic is actually using the billions they've made from Fortnite. Even if it is for paid exclusivity. I wish they'd use some of that money to make new games though.

I haven't really been keeping up with the Epic Games store vs Steam features thing as I haven't been buying any PC games lately (insane backlog), but I am shocked to see that they launched the Epic store without user reviews and cloud saves. WTF. Who would launch any online store these days without reviews? And cloud saves seems like a given as well - it's 2019.

I'm actually happy Steam is getting some more serious competition, but Epic really should have at least implemented what I consider to be base level features before launching.

Thanks for the heads up, OP. Picked it up on Steam before the delisting . This is probably one hell of a marketing move by the Metro folks.

What's wrong with comparing things to find out if it's either worth it or is comparable? I'd like to check out what the new kid has to offer before blindly jumping ship and follow them.

I don't understand about beating Valve on price. Green Man Gaming is usually consistent with discounts that you're more than welcomed to purchase from.

The new kid doesn't have to beat Valve on features, they have to at least get some of them up and running. Epic had 20+ years of Valve history to see what features they need to add in order to somewhat compete.
Can't beat valve on community, look how impossible it is to encourage installation of something as simplistic as a new client?
Huh? That's a pretty condescending attitude towards your fellow gamers. Did you know that Epic store folks were asking for help on the Steam forums? It's not just for "simplistic" installations, but for technical issues beyond that. Not only that, but it's very beneficial to have people who have played the game to warn other folks how good/bad it is.

It's unfortunate that Metro was pulled from Steam after all the pre-orders and whatnot and then coming back to steam in Feb 2020. That really is a very shady practice. It makes me not want to buy from Epic due to that plus the fact that the Epic store isn't comparable to Steam (yet).

Activision is already using Battle.net and will probably release their future games exclusively on the platform.

Their multiplayer games, just like Ubisoft releasing The Division 2 in the Epic store. They want 88% of all micro-transactions.

Releasing single player games as Epic exclusives will guarantee a large amount of piracy.

No idea what you are talking about. My point was that it's totally unreasonable to expect the epic store to compare feature to feature vs steam

Gmg simply resells steam keys, not even remotely the same comparison. In order for epic to compete on price on new titles their only reasonable chance would be on price, they haven't any hope to win a price war with valve

If the game doesn't work and the developers aren't proactive in communicating with their customers in a timely manner then the customer should refund said game. Only then will the developers understand that they need to support their game better.

I was excited for this game but I seriously hope it crashes and burns now! I have no problem with it being on the Epic store but being exclusive is what I take issue with. I refuse to have another digital store that I have to split all my games across.

I am really starting hate Epic even more than EA.

I will pirate the game before I will give a penny to Epic!

Gutsy call, and may very well backfire. Clearly, the motive is the royalty fee difference, but the pitfall of being one of the first true AAA releases to debut on the Epic store is immense.

But if it allows Paragon to live again, I may very well support it. :P

It is certainly not convenient having to install several clients, but I believe anything that pushes down the cut that storefronts take for themselves is worth it.

Unfortunately, with closed storefronts (Apple, Playstation, XBox, and Nintendo) it will have to become industry standard for these closed storefronts to ever accept a smaller cut.

Imagine having two movie theaters, one of them has the exclusive rights to Avengers: Endgame and the other has the exclusive rights to Spider-man: Into the Spider-Verse.

Now, the theaters will compete for who has the most exclusives instead of who has the most comfortable seats, you know, the real competition.

That is BS.

The last thing I want to deal with in pc gaming is having a storefront like Steam get pushed out. Steam is a gatekeeper that we need. I see this as a race to the bottom to save money for the big publishers at the detriment of the consumer (the shit show that has been the Bethesda Launcher for example). We've already been seeing it lately before the Epic Store launched but I fear this will fuel it even more.

Valve probably (obviously) was resting on their laurels and probably didn't negotiate with the big publishers on the cut percentage and are feeling it.
