at least in America

I used to shop at that store. In fact that's Main Street Flushing NY.

I just thought of another one that I didn't mention.

Murphy's

As i was growing up they were in decline but I still remember them. The old-school version of the dollar store.

CompUSA in Fountain Valley, California. My parents essentially saw this as a "Daycare Center". They used to drop me off this place for a couple of hours as they went shopping elsewhere.

PC Club in Anaheim, California. I miss all the old mom & pop PC hardware stores that used to litter the Southern California landscape. This was where I purchased the Diamond Monster 3D 3dfx Voodoo1.

i really wish a PC Club, CompUSA, or Computer City were still open here in Las Vegas. Even a Circuit City for that matter. im trying to find a video card and cant find anything. Best Buy doesnt have shit and Frys only has open box garbage. Fucking Best Lie and Fried Electronics.

There was a PC Club in my city and only went in once or twice. Their customer service was terrible, so I was not really sad to see them go (I also had no idea there were more of them).

Pretty much all of my choices have been stated (Discovery Store, Software Etc., Discover Zone)

So, I'll just add the obvious Circuit City. Can't say I miss it that much. I never got a decent deal there until it closed, and I ended up with Saints Row 2 for $20 a couple weeks after it came out.

I miss the American mall scene altogether though. You can call it consumerism, shallow, or whatever, but it used to be fun to hang out at the mall.

The building is still there on Foster in Chicago, and has yet to find new occupiers.
Whaaat? I hadn't realized that had closed down. I had a birthday party there one year. =(

Speaking of other Chicagoland stuff, does anyone recall a fairly large game shop just off of Belmont and Diversey in the early 90s on the same lot that has that DMV now? I can't recall the name of the place to save my life but I do remember a castle motif. Anyone? In the same lot where there's a Home Depot now was also another store whose name I can't recall in the same time period that I enjoyed shopping at. I was only four or five at the time so my memory's not the best.

Bennigan corporate owned stores closed but the franchise owner stores still exist.

Mom use to work in the same office as the corporate hq's for Bennigans. They still are there and support just the existing franchises.

Service Merchandise

We used to buy a lot of electronics from them. VCR's, TV's, cables, etc. I even remember a trip to Las Vegas where we bought a Sony VCR to replace one that had broken.

Anyone post about Game Crazy?

They were so much better than Gamestop in just about every way... better trade-in prices especially. Unfortunately they were tied with Hollywood Video, so when that closed down, Game Crazy did as well. :(

There were a whole bunch of them. i liked PC Club. The salespeople there knew more than most stores technicians.

I remember this was my first exposure to a shrimp all you can eat bar....best bbq chicken and rice ever!!!!!
nostalgia....I lost

I don't recall that one, but I do remember a place called CyberZone. It was around Golf and Higgins. It was where I first saw the N64, an import.

Channel Home Centers - Home Depot ran them out of business with low prices and then jacked up prices after a few years with competition

Bradlees - I still see old stores that haven't been rented out since they closed like 10 years ago.

Caldor

Many years ago we had JCPenney, Arby's, Jack in the Box, Carl's Jr. and A&W in the Philippines. None except A&W lasted for very long.

There is a Druthers still open in Campbellsville, KY. I haven't been through there in a few years but I was shocked to see it. Most of the Druthers in KY were turned into Dairy Queens.

Though I suppose it technically isn't defunct. There's still one restaurant left.

Same for Tennessee. East Tennessee, anyway.

My parents bought my first computer (IBM Aptiva 486/SX 33MHz) for me here from a local mall that's now more or less defunct itself. I believe they were owned by Tandy.
