Not that I can see. Ignition offers everything in the original along with improvements, which makes this even more frustrating. :/Is there any reason to get the original version, other than to support it in the hopes that they bring over this game? Yeah, bad timing indeed...

Kuroko is now a playable character along with Uiharu as assist.
Wow, that's really stupid. Well, not just stupid, but a big middle finger to their American branch. And no DLC option?
Keep in mind this game has received no character rebalance in Ignition (just a slight mechanics upgrade to how you can choose assists between rounds) and only adds three characters.
I guess on the bright side of this is that they've done no work on balancing the game, that the vanilla version is pretty much exactly the same as Ignition minus the new characters.
Not sure what to do with my preorder now. Cancel it and screw over SoA and import Ignition? Ignore Ignition and stick to my pre-order? Import Ignition AND keep my preorder? I think the best thing for me to do would be for me to follow through with my PS3 preorder, then sell it used so I can import Ignition.
This is the kind of thing you'd see from a company that has never worked with arcade fighters properly (this isn't the Virtua Fighter team making this game). I had no idea that Sega of Japan had this little respect not only for their own consumers but also for their overseas ones.
The Blade Arcus fighter? That's a really awful game, it's not something you want.
They've been completely out of sync for years, it's nothing new that this was bound to happen.

This completely killed my interest in Vanilla. I need Kuroko. Guess I'll just wait and see what they'll do.http://dengekionline.com/elem/000/001/132/1132013/

Blade Arcus from Shining EX / November 26
Nitroplus Blasterz: Heroines Infinite Duel / December 10
Dengeki Bunko: Fighting Climax Ignition /December 17
Way to announce a new character THE DAY BEFORE WE GET THE OUTDATED VERSION WHICH WON'T HAVE SAID CHARACTER.http://dengekionline.com/elem/000/001/132/1132013/

I think some people said on here that no, there's just too many changes to the mechanics to warrant a DLC upgrade via Ultra SF4/ Arcade Edition. Is it possible for a digital update to be applied to the vanilla ver. of the game?
Man, sucks to say but im def skipping out on vanilla version now lol. Hopefully kuroko is not as low tier as misaka. And yea accelerator should have been playable. Hell most of the assists should have been playable instead.

See, that's the main problem. If I don't buy the vanilla version & support Sega's decision to localize this, I fear they won't bother with Ignition because it won't be worth the money, time, & effort. But I also don't want the outdated version knowing Japan is getting the new version in just 2 months, not to mention this isn't something Sega can just release here as DLC.
4 more playable characters & 3 assist characters were added, balanced the gameplay, & some new systems, such as the one mentioned below. What changes ? Or do you have a link explaining this ? Mechanics was one of the main reasons I really liked this game.
In the Ignition update, it adds another assist character slot, but for Blast only instead of Assist. A new system called Ignition is introduced, giving one character in each team a power-up after each round. From the second round on, if the same Ignition on the team's character from the previous round is reused, it gives an "Extra Ignition".
Nyoro: So, the next item to note is regarding Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax Ignition. With unfortunate timing for SEGA of America, Ignition was announced as the arcade update to Fighting Climax, with two new characters, two new assist characters and a rebalance incoming. What can we expect to see in terms of how this release will be handled in North America? Will it be another case of waiting several months after the Japanese console release for the American console release or will SEGA aim for a simultaneous console release?
Sam: Its a little too premature to speculate on that, as for right now we are focusing 100% on the release of the current version. We want to make sure that everyone is really satisfied with what they receive with this game. Once we finish getting everyones eyes on this title, then well turn our focus towards Ignition.
Nyoro: Understandable. Though players may not like to hear it, sales of first entry can influence future decisions and it wouldnt surprise me if fan and sales reception to the initial offering affected how SEGA addressed the series in the future.
Sam: One of my personal concerns is that when an update appears ahead of time in another region then players tend to wait for the sequel. However, I know that the current group of DFC players right now are very passionate about the game. I just want everyone out there who wants this game and supports this game to keep growing the group of interested players so we can grow this property in the West.
Nyoro: Thats one thing I personally noticed that I dont think Japanese companies understand. When you announce a sequel or revision to a fighting game that is Japan-only, the interest in the original title overseas hits a big low. However, like you said earlier this game right now appeals to a very interested and invested fan-base, so its unlikely that theyll lose interest in the upcoming title. Though, the fanbase isnt 100% hardcore because the number of properties in the game is so far reaching to a casual base as well
Sam: Thats the great thing about this game. You have the more hardcore player whos invested in the fighting system and technical parts, and you have the softer side that really likes the characters, setting and dialogue. And of course the game itself is really, really fun to play at all levels.
Is the mp cross-region/platform? I forgot.
Yeah, this is why I decided to support Sega and buy the vanilla version, because they need to make back the money bringing this over & show that there is indeed interest in this series. Hopefully the cheaper price will help things a bit, but sadly it also seems like this will be sent to flop at retailers. It's simply bad timing, especially since in 2 months, the newer version will hit consoles in Japan. Hopefully, there'll be more people who'll buy this to support Ignition coming over compared to waiting for Ignition & importing that instead, even if I understand why someone would want to do the latter. My interview reinforces my opinion that Sega of America had no clue that an update was coming to console this fast. My question was based on the update when Ignition was confirmed to be arcades-only.
After all, there's no profit for SoA in taking away hype from your initial release. I'm much more inclined to believe that Sega of Japan just doesn't respect Sega of America at all. This does no favors for the rumors that Sega of Japan likes to sabotage America for revenge because of the grudge over the Genesis I think. Then again game development and cooperation is always a lot more complicated than it looks on the surface, so it's likely that this release nonsense is limited to this Japanese development group solely.
So make the choice that benefits yourself the most as a consumer, I suppose.
My preorder from Amazon was just confirmed to be shipped. I'll be enjoying this game a lot and its English translation (plus it was cheap, so no big loss).
Once December draws closer I'll sell it and pick up an import of Ignition.
Unfortunately Sega of America's hands are a bit tied. Can't exactly announce an updated localized American console release of Ignition just a few months after selling the original version... they don't have the luxury of a time buffer like Japan has. So the import will likely be the only way to play the arcade updates for a long time.
Don't think so on the cross-platform, but you can cross-save between systems (trophy list is shared between both versions as well, I think). Is the mp cross-region/platform? I forgot.
The game has Arcade Mode and Dream Duel modes for single player. I believe both modes should be there in this release. Poster could just mean quantity of content in general, not relative to the JP release."- lack of single player content"
Wasn't there some kind of "Dream Duel" that was basically a single player story mode for each character? Or am I thinking of Arcade Mode & each character having a special ending?

This is what I plan to do. I got the game for a low enough price that I am not worried. If I enjoy the game enough I will import in December and sell off this version.
If they wait too long to update to the newer version I feel like people will not care about the series at all. Hopefully for people waiting they decide to bring the new one over 6~ months the latest.

Let me see if I can find a more detailed list as to what was changed. Edit: Shoryuken has some details of the new stuff from the arcade location test.
Wait, the novels were removed? But isn't there still a trophy for checking them out? I mean, I get the reasoning (I think a few of them are actually licensed), but seems weird they'd keep the trophy, but would remove the way to earn said trophy.
Speaking of which, glad there's only one online trophy (I think) and for the most part, it seems like a doable, if not a bit grindy platinum.
As obvious as it is (and as sad as I am) Sega is sending the game out to die. I can't find one retailer that will do an instore pickup for the game (Bestbuy/Gamestop), and I just looked at Sega's official site for the game. It still has "full site coming soon" on it.
I'm going to keep my order because I was able to get it for a nice price with supposed release day shipping. I will be very surprised if it actually is delivered tomorrow since it hasn't even shipped yet.

That's why there's no way in hell that SoA is trying to kill it off, it is 1000x more likely that Japan is just operating off their own clock. It's like watching Arcsys in the dark days of yesteryear when their Western audience wasn't even acknowledged in press. lol
speaking of which, shouldn't someone make an OT for the English release?
Sega of America very likely had to delay DBFC because of their move from San Francisco to Los Angeles. Such a huge move causes massive disorganization in a company and they lost staff in the transition. Plus someone pointed out to me earlier that Atlus is actually handling the retail distribution for this title.

The game is so niche, a thread wasn't made. Somehow this made me chuckle a little. Also, it seems the localization is getting the OST for first print runs: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1086654
I just found out about this.
How's the soundtrack. Any throwbacks to Sega classics?
OH, SO GUESS WHAT.
Remember how I said the pre-order CD was 6 tracks?
lol no it's ONE SINGLE TRACK COMBINING 6 SONGS.
It's a "medley" (I use the term loosely because it's more of fade-outs to indicate the next song, which further begs the question why the hell they didn't just make them separate tracks) that's about 9:45 long. It includes:
- Fighting Climax Instrumental (opening song) [it's about 30 seconds long]
- Envoy of Hope (Character Select)
- Ruin & Salvation (Valkyria Chronicles Stage, Daytime Ver.)
- Abyss (Shinobi Stage)
- Higher Higher (Nights Stag) [THIS SONG IS THE REASON WHY I WANTED THIS TO BE SEPARATE TRACKS]
- Seaside B-Field (Sonic The Hedgehog Stage) [Weird Seaside Hill remix (though decent) for....Green Hill Zone stage. okay]
I seriously wish these were just separate tracks because it's a pain finding the parts I do like while this is playing in my car's CD player.
