Destiny and Microsoft = Destinyfragrance .. LOL

Sony is saying the competitor product is shit, even inducing its like for "retarded" people. Its way more offensive. If you cant realize that, sorry, you are blind.

Just found the used games video thread. Six pages of pure Ecstasy. Not a single xbox fanboy to derail the thread or getting offended.

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=582216

This is still one of the all-time-greatest 'sick-burn' video's i've ever seen come out of this silly industry. It's perfectly done and worthy of praise.

My god.

I know gamers like getting upset over inconsequential things, but I would never have seen this upsetting so many people.

It's a clever ad. Nothing more to it.

I think a lot of gamers "humanize" these companies (which are actually thousands of people working together making decisions) and then like or dislike the companies like they would a person.

It's not much different than how many people make too much of a deal about what the people they don't like do.

Don't think I took that line the same way you (and possibly others) did.

I honestly took it as them saying the fragrance isn't real + thanking people for questioning whether or not the game is coming to Xbox. I didn't see that line as a jab to Sony.

That's a fair perception, I'm saying that line could also be viewed in a negative manner.

You don't understand,a different group of people that work for Microsoft started exclusive marketing and now, years later, a new group of people at the SAME company are making a light jab at that! Can't you see how wrong it is?

I can't believe that some people actually take issue with this. Oh wait... yes I can. *shakes head*

The game is on Xbox One and Xbox 360 as well. It's a clever little ad that should do no more than put a smile on your face. For crying out loud, just get ready to enjoy the game, people.

Hey, companies are people too!!

Microsoft being 'cheeky' about a rival's co-marketing deal when they're just as guilty for doing it with more games? Hmm.
They aren't complaining about the deal, just using humor to get around it. It's not rocket science and a very transparent tactic which makes me wonder why so many people can't see it for what it is.

Damn this topic took a dramatic turn, not only are some people accusing certain members of being pro Sony and anti Xbox but also GAF as a whole including the mods :lol

It's funny how the best Destiny ad is coming from a company without the rights to promote the game.

For reference, the thread about the Destiny live action trailer is 6 pages long, this one on the other hand...
That's controversy for ya, the best way of advertising.

Pretty hypocritical considering MS's shady practices involving exclusive marketing. It would be cheeky(like Sony's E3 borrowing games tutorial) if it wasn't hypocritical, but it's just coming off as lame and possibly a breach of contract.

The best thing is this ad publicly confirms that Microsoft is no longer going to have exclusive marketing deals going forward.

Huh?

pretty sure destiny, not this advert, shows that MS isn't going to be the only one with exclusive marketing deals going forward

Sony should do one for Tomb Raider....

What is should be right is.......TR logo on the front of the hat, then click to discover more...

Then just loads of US dollar bills under the hat.

Damn this topic has gone full retard, not only are some people accusing certain members of being pro Sony and anti Xbox but also GAF as a whole including the mods :lol

who said that?

Just in case you are referring to my post about the Sony ad above , my reference the mod presence is that keeps the idiots from both camps in check.

I did not imply the mods are biased

no, you are attributing 'how lawyers work' to some unknown force. contracts are made as tight as they need to be. just because you don't see the relevance of certain clauses doesn't make them 'stupid' or unnecessary, you just don't understand them.

if theres a potential agreement in place they will draw up a legal document to ensure that the partner in question is bound to behave in a certain way. why? because there is no love lost in the business world. i hate to break this to you, but morals and ethics aren't ranked highly in a corporation.

pushing or exploring the limits of contractual obligation is not unusual, and is in fact the reason why the contracts are there in the first place. making out that MS is behaving in an unusual way is incorrect.

Well yeah, I know all of that, I'm only arguing about you saying taking advantage of loopholes is "expected" and "likely to happen", I say they do that because they don't want for shit like that to happen even at 0.0000....01% chance. Just "covering their asses"

absolute nonsense and you have no way of backing up that claim

Let me do a correction, we only know one company who did it, MS.

Twist: SONY have the sole right to advertise Destiny but due to Microsofts admiration and love for Bungie they decided to throw the game some free advertisement
This way Bungie have done nothing wrong, Sony have their exclusive advertisements in place.

/madness

Seriously. This thread is the most pathetic thing on the Internet. People in here want to get butthurt and upset over everything

#NotAllSonys

no. not really. because it's a light jab intended to let customers know the game is also on their platform.

they aren't crying foul.

*edit: j/k post?

Why don't they just make the actual cologne?

LOL. I can just see the TV spot.

"Charming, fun and sophisticated"

"Don't just become Legend. Smell like one, too."

My favourite part about this whole outrage is that in being outraged, the fickle gamers have actually brought much more awareness to this "ad" than if they had just accepted it. A lot of people today are now reminded that Destiny is on Xbox.

Microsoft will be loving this.

Pretty hypocritical considering MS's shady practices involving exclusive marketing. It would be cheeky(like Sony's E3 borrowing games tutorial) if it wasn't hypocritical, but it's just coming off as lame and possibly a breach of contract.

I swear this forum takes itself way too seriously. How in the hell does an ad being cheeky make it not a breach?

This isn't a breach. It's a really clever way to advertise for something you can't advertise for. Some people really need to take their heads out of the sand.

Creative Marketing?

Its a funny ad, and I doubt anything legal can happen to MS here.

Oh no, that's not what I implied. And if anything, Bungie is probably secretly rejoicing over this. After all, they want nothing less than the best possible sales across the board.

The best thing is this ad publicly confirms that Microsoft is no longer going to have exclusive market in deals going forward.

How did you reach to this conclusion? MS is not criticizing/attacking the Sony/Activision marketing deal, they are just trying to promote a game without having the rights to do so.

Pretty hypocritical considering MS's shady practices involving exclusive marketing. It would be cheeky(like Sony's E3 borrowing games tutorial) if it wasn't hypocritical, but it's just coming off as lame and possibly a breach of contract.

What contract? No Destiny or Bungie or Activision logos, marketing materials, or copyrighted images sounds or video are on the site.

The fact that this is annoying people is incredible. Like how far into the console warrior nonsense do you have to be where something like this gets you angry?

Why though? In what way does this greatly impact anything? There's still far more PS4 advertising for Destiny with the ads being far more upfront/clear for obvious reasons. I'm sure the game is still going to sell better on the PS4 and help sell more PS4 consoles.

I just find it weird that with MS's COD deal you don't see or hear anything about the game on other platforms until release. I'm sure they enforce that too. I'm not being a fanboy. Search my post history. I give MS credit where it's do, always. But this? No. This is obviously fear and desperation. I mean think about what's going on here......They know Sony has a marketing contract with Activision, they even say so, so they purposely put their technical fellowed minds together to find a crack so they can try and mention Destiny is on XB1. Who does this? They're like a 5 year old crying to get noticed.

My favourite part about this whole outrage is that in being outraged, the fickle gamers have actually brought much more awareness to this "ad" than if they had just accepted it. A lot of people today are now reminded that Destiny is on Xbox.

Yep. This is working in many ways; And (unless they are lying for some reason) there are posters on this forum who previously thought that Destiny was a PS4 exclusive.

Do not people not realize that Destiny has been "advertised" on the xbox.com homepage, news.xbox.com, and on the Xbox One/360 itself for a while now? Sure, there haven't been expensive TV ads and system bundles, but it seems obvious that MS is "allowed" to mention that the game exists on their systems, lol. Even the preload feature for it was a big deal.

I guess the "we are not allowed to mention it" thing is being taken a bit too literally, as opposed to the snarky joke that it actually is.

who said that?

Just in case you are referring to my post about the Sony ad above , my reference the mod presence is that keeps the idiots from both camps in check.

No I was talking about the one you quoted.
Full retard is offensive bro.
Really? Ugh, thank my English for not knowing that.. it's gone, apologies if I offended someone.

Because we're human beings.
Not good enough.
Console superiority RUL3Z all!
Can't we all just get along?
Probably because MS does this all the time with games especially last gen? I don't know just woke up a few minutes and I not reading through this whole thing.
Did they? I don't recall anything right now.
Because people don't understand marketing, and because some people have developed an unhealthy level of affiliation with a brand of a plastic box that projects images onto a television screen. And because some people must bucket all things into "good guys" and "bad guys" when actually both companies are just out to get these people to give them all the moneys.
Truth.

Well yeah, I know all of that, I'm only arguing about you saying taking advantage of loopholes is "expected" and "likely to happen", I say they do that because they don't want for shit like that to happen even at 0.0000....01% chance. Just "covering their asses"

no, you misunderstood what i was getting at. yes, they aren't likely to happen because the contracts exist. however the contracts exist because otherwise it would be likely to happen.

two very different things. to think that its only MS looking to break or circumvent a contract is naiive.

Let me do a correction, we only know one company who did it, MS.

which means absolutely nothing as we aren't in a position to know.

*edit: having said all this, keep the MS hate coming. they brought it on themselves, and short of them leaving the industry this is all good for the consumer. a worried MS makes for a better market place
