You only really need PS+ for PvP. In the beta story mode only has 1 event you can't play without PS+.

Btw, aren't PS+ requirements in Destiny only in PS4?

I'll never get it either. All one had to do was preorder the game. It's not like this was an exclusive beta.

Only Crusible is competitive mp... the small part if Destiny and you don't need to play it.

Playstation users got by far the better end of this deal and it's not hard to make a case that the pre-orders still "mattered" there, icky barrier aside. I can see how pre-ordering on Microsoft hardware would feel like a metaphorical kick in the junk, though. This means that the window where a pre-order actually got you something was, what, 2 days? Versus... 12 [total] for PS users?

Overall I'm quite glad they're confident enough in their game to do this and that consensus impressions have been quite positive. Stress testing, sure, but you don't do something like this unless you know the net result will be a lot of positive word-of-mouth.

That would be horrible. This is an online game. Not a single player game.

Some of us don't want to start fresh and it doesn't really matter. The online PVP in this game isn't the main aspect unlike games like Battlefield or CoD.

IIRC, the pre-order numbers exceeded Bungie's expectations.

Depending on your platform you got an entire week of play these folks didn't get. I'd say that reward enough.

I would venture to guess this is a compromise Bungie got, first parties and marketing got to have their fun, and they still get the open stress test they want in the end.
