Destiny Beta open for everyone

LOL. Some people wanna get in the beta, but don't want to pre-order. Chill out.
No. The pre-order "bonus" is no longer a bonus. You don't entice customers to buy in by offering exclusivity, then removing that exclusivity once you cashed in on the loyalists. It's a nice gesture I would appreciate if I was a cheap ass too, but I made the financial commitment to this game because there was a perk only available by doing so. Now that has changed. I have every right to be upset. I wouldn't have pre-order a month in advance if I could get the beta for free. This is some bullshit and I'd like Bungie to compensate those customers who showed good faith in preordering. Otherwise, Bungie are dbags for doing this. It's bait and switch and I'm against that on principle alone. PEACE.

Depending on your platform you got an entire week of play these folks didn't get. I'd say that reward enough.

On Xbox platforms, we got a whole day and a half over those who didn't pre-order. As I said, I wouldn't have pre-ordered if I had known they were going to do this, so it does irk me a little. But I can cancel the pre-order if need be, so I'm not absolutely enraged by this or anything.

Yeah. Those of us who preordered on psn are getting boned. Pony up full price for the game a month out. If you missed the alpha, do so sight unseen. You take a leap of faith only to have every person with or without interest get a free crack at it too. Thanks Bungie. This is my first Bungie game. I'll never pre-order one of their titles again if this is how they honor loyalty. Sony should not allow stuff like this since it reflects poorly on their network. Their store is the one promoting the bonuses. They should honor that somehow. PEACE.

Wow, calm down man. The entitlement is strong with you. The more people that play the beta, the better.

Haha of course this happens when I finally decide to get off my lazy bum and find a beta code. Oh well, I should be happy. Hopefully the servers can handle the influx of players.

Posts whining about "pre-order bonus"

Jesus dude, You still got like 10 days more than everybody who didn't preorder. Are you really so selfish that you want to keep the game away from others? What does it matter if other people get to play the last three days of the beta? How does it affect you in any way? I also love how you end every vitriolic post you made with PEACE. Get over it.

Someone need to adapt that "shame and honor" gaf meme.

Bungie have shot themselves in the foot.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about some game developers cultures (I'm an expert), but honor and shame is part of it. It's not like it's in other game developer's cultures where you become successful by milking your consumers. If you screw over someone in those cultures, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What that means is the people who pre-ordered the game, after hearing about this, is not going to play Destiny, nor will they keep their pre-orders anymore. THIS IS HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Bungie has alienated their pre-order market with this move.

Bungie, publicly apologize and cancel the all access beta for those who didn't pre-order, or you can kiss your business goodbye.

I had to, sorry

Good stuff Bungie!
Gonna try this out on the 360. See how different it is from the PS4.
I'll also try using a different class to start with while I'm at it :P

I bought the game under specific terms of exclusivity. I paid for exclusivity. This is akin to paying to get into VIP, then having the bouncer let anyone in for free after you. Yeah, I got some time alone, but I paid for the entire time alone, not just part of it. I'm not down with changing terms of a deal after the money is spent. I paid full price early for a reason.

This is about honoring an agreement. Why should I pre-order again for beta access if this is how psn honors the pre-order exclusivity? This should be a concern to psn because I don't I'm the only customer in such a quandary. Why am I paying in full up front for bonuses that might end up being given away for free? I fully expect a supplemental preorder bonus, as right now, I've only enjoyed part of the previously stated exclusive beta test. It's about principle. PEACE.

There is a very significant difference between this analogy and the current situation. I'll give you a minute to try and figure it out.

Peck peck peck and ignore the larger concept.

I'll say it this way. It's like EA making TF multiplat after taking the money for Xbox exclusivity. Exclusive access to the beta was the incentive to pony up the bucks.

I'll ask again. Why pre-order on psn for beta access if it's going to be given away for free anyway? Why should I trust this won't happen again with other such offers? PEACE.

Wha.. what?

You keep saying "PSN" this and "PSN" that. This wasn't a PSN decision, this was Bungie. You were able to pre-order ANYWHERE and get beta access. Just because you chose the singular place that you can't cancel your pre-order doesn't give you any right to declare you're somehow more special than everyone else. You pre-ordered for beta access, and the question becomes "why?" You either wanted the game or not. You wanted the game? Okay, you paid it off and got beta access as a bonus. You didn't know? Then why drop $60 to pre-order a game you didn't know if you would like? Because you got beta access?

No offense dude, but this has nothing to do with principle and everything to do with entitlement. Don't pre-order, ever. The beta was just that, a BONUS. This is like being mad at Gearbox because they released the GameStop arena DLC for Borderlands 2 as a paid DLC later down the line.

Do your research before you get so riled up, man. This is nothing less than a good move on Bungie's part.

You don't pre-order for beta access. You don't pre-order. Ever. Why would you? There is absolutely no reason to. Your consumer rights or trust have not been violated in any way. This is you setting expectations that are far too high.

It is not like EA making Titanfall multiplat. That would be most likely illegal. a pre-order is a purchase of a product. That is what it is. You did not pay for the beta. You paid for destiny. The Beta was a good-will bonus from them to you. You did not buy the beta. You bought a product which you will receive upon release.

You should cancel your preorder. Probably should have cancelled it before too. I got into the beta without preordering. Sony sent me a code in my email. You have been wronged prior to today. Bungie shot itself in the foot.

Kudos to Bungie. The way they have handled the alpha and beta should be a blueprint for future games of its kind to develop hype AND ensure servers won't melt on release day.

The whole pre-order deal kinda sucks tho, especially for Xbox owners.

what about this one, you go buy food at a restaurant for 50 bucks and the next day they are giving food away for the homeless

you like that analogy ?

My man. It never gets old lol

Nice to see Bungie is giving more people a chance to try out the game and a smart move until it finally closes down this weekend. Possibly picking up more potential buyers from people who might have been on the fence about the game or could not snag an extra beta code. Plus it definitely does not hurt as far as load testing the servers go.

I pre-ordered the game so I got to try it early and enjoyed the bit I played on the PS4. Game looks nice on the system and enjoyed the gameplay. Just passed on playing it too much because I want to really dig into it on the official game release when things are polished up.

It does not bother me at all that they did this. People who pre-ordered where likely going to get the game anyway and got to experience the beta longer than those who did not.

Quite frankly the more people that are on the more likely any potential bugs are found and things are more hammered out in September which is good for everyone.

Entitlement comes with a written agreement? I think you misunderstand the situation.

Let's get something straight. I've spoken nothing but highly of this game to date. I only preordered after the alpha, which I played and loved. My post history spells that out clearly. I'm not bitching about the quality of the game and knew what I was buying. Nice of you to think otherwise, but you're wrong.

What I am complaining about and am fully justified in doing so about is the little tag on the psn listing saying to pre-order for beta access. If the store wasn't flakey, I'd try to find the exact wording. It more than implied you needed to pre-order to play the beta. I loved the alpha, so I preordered to get access to the beta. I am buying this game anyway. I had no problem laying out full price up front. However, I don't pre-order games unless there is a bonus for doing so, and I would not have in this case until the preload period. As you state yourself, there's no real reason to without actual incentive. I had incentive. That incentive was just voided by giving access away without prerequisite.

I have now been deincentivized to ever place a similar pre-order on psn for titles offering beta access, of which, I believe there are s few more on there. This is the principle of it. This is not a good look on psn, because their pre-order system also states no refunds. Well, the terms of the original purchase have changed. So what then?

Don't act like I'm raging over a game I don't like and I'm throwing a fit. I'm explaining damn good reasons what a trust had been broken with the customer, and why such a decision as this throws into question all similar offers in the future. That, and I want a supplemental bonus. Honor my commitment. PEACE.

If you haven't paid anything yet what type of "loyalty" are you referring to... ?

EDIT:

Wait why would you pay in advance for a pre-order??? o_O

All digital, so you have to pay in full. I'm not explaining why someone would preorder a game again. I only speak one language, and I'd line to think I'm pretty good at it. PEACE.

Thanks for the heads up OP. Downloading now.

I'm not much of an FPS fan, but with all the hype surrounding this game on GAF I feel obligated to at least check it out.

I would love to shake your hand. Nail -> head. Shame he'll never be smart enough to understand what you're saying, then again why do people still pay full price for a preorder? I can preorder and do store pickup through Bestbuy, get 20% off my game, and if the game reviews turn out to be terrible I can sit on my order for 8 days before my order is automatically cancelled. No risk to the consumer at all.

Haha, how...... nevermind. You sir, made me laugh. =)

Why? I haven't been paying much attention to this because the Oculus Rift DK2 shipped today and that has had my undivided attention. ;)

This beta will help me pass the time! How long will it last?
